Not a stupid question. For instance, we are going on the Crown Princess next month and again next May.  There are 3 MDR's: Michelangelo on Deck 5 mid ship, DaVinci on deck 6 mid ship and Botticelli on deck 6 at the back (stern).  You didn't indicate which Princess ship you'll be on so I can't say how many dining rooms - each category of ship is different.

Thank you!   I didn't realize there was more than one MDR.  We are sailing on the Royal.    So whichever MDR they assign us to is the one we eat at every night?    And do we have the same table and the same waiters every night?

  2. At a lot of ports you can walk right off the ship and there are local companies that will take you on a tour that are often cheaper than the tours we see online. Is that true in Aruba or should we pre-book?

We were wondering the same thing. Most ports have soooo many private vans waiting to take a group around the island, but when we went to Aruba for a resort stay, I don't remember seeing that. May just have missed it, but I'm having a vague memory of someone saying Aruba laws prevent them from doing this. I'd really like to know too :)

  3. I just sent you a second email. The last email I sent to my husband ended up in his spam??

I got your email and responded :) Did you get mine? Also, Scott emailed you with information on what is available on the ship now. Did you get his too?

    Hope you can go!!

  4. Hi Skoeper I did email you.

Oh, I didn't get it! Please resend!! And can't wait to meet you :)

We are sailing on the Royal Princess on November 9th. It's an 8 day cruise and goes to the ABC islands :) Really hope you can join us. And I REALLY hope the next email comes through :)

  5. If you're asking because you need to plug in a CPAP, the stewards will provide an extension cord (and distilled water) upon request.

I wasn't, actually but......a friend is traveling with our group who will be bringing a CPAP so that's very useful to know! Thank you!

  6. Is anyone on the Royal Princess right now??? If you are, could you do me a favor? If you wouldn't mind, could you look to see if there is a power outlet under the bed on the wall (for the lamps?). If there is, is it American type outlet or European?

    THANK YOU!!!

  7. Boy don't know where I've been but YES would love to go on this cruise if it's not too late.

Awesome! I'd have to ask my travel agent what is still available. Are you on Facebook? I've created a page for our cruise and could add you. That way you and the TA could talk about what's available :)

The more the merrier! So far, we have 10 of us, not everyone is HoH, but most are and will use the CART.

You can email me if you'd like: skoeper@bellsouth.net

  8. CART is great! We use it at all the Hearing Loss Association of America meetings for our chapter in Sarasota/Bradenton, projected onto a screen.

We do too! As well as our church services :) It's the best thing since sliced bread! lol

  9. I’ve had problems with closed captioning on other lines, too, which are companies that otherwise do offer plenty of accessible arrangements for people with hearing issues (door knock sensor, headsets in the theater, etc.) I’ve often wondered what the problem is... I’m no engineer, but maybe the ships’ satellite signal does not transmit captions for broadcast shows.

In any event, when Seabourn or any other ship operates in US waters, regardless of the vessel’s flag, they must meet most (but not all) of the provisions of Title III of the Americans With Disabilities Act.

I'm not sure why captioning would not appear on the t.v. We rarely ever turn the tv on except to check our account or the view from the bridge. I do know that at some hotels, we need to have maintenance come to the room with another remote (maybe for the dish?) and they turn it on for us. Maybe ships are the same way?

The CART that I had requested is live captioning for the shows, muster drill and any talks/classes given by the ship. It requires a writer who uses a machine like court reporters use. What they type is then projected unto a screen or t.v. or even just a laptop. That works well for a small group but it's a lot harder to have a large group hover over a laptop to read, lol. I wish they would announce that it's available so people know here to sit. Put signage up as you enter theater, etc. We've got a ways to go in educating about hearing loss, but.....baby steps :) On 2 separate cruises, we had people just happen to see the writer and the screen and they would come over and ask if they were allowed to sit with us and use it too. OF COURSE! We made new friends :) And ever.single.time we went to a comedy show, the comedian would somehow work the writer into his skit, lol. Soooo funny.

  10. Shoeper if your group ever goes on another trip, especially if it's on one of the larger ships, would love to join you. A NO you can't do that is understandable but a YES would be a joy. My husband and I are very nice people.

Princess has finally agreed to provide CART for our November cruise! Wanna come, FAD??

And anyone else who needs captioning for the shows???

  11. Holy cats!! I just checked in and it was easy as pie! I'm already impressed!

Only thing left to do is enter my credit card info. The card we have expires in Sept, so I have to wait until the new one comes (I think). Pretty sure the number will be the same, but does Princess ask for the 3 digit number on the back?

It can wait, just so excited!

  12. Oh! It's not too early? Yay!

Thanks for all the responses :) And yea, really hoping the website works A LOT better than Celebrity's, lol. Theirs can be downright painful! Still love Celebrity, and hopefully will love Princess just as much.

  13. We are sailing on Princess for the very first time in November. Until now, we have been Celebrity-devoted cruisers.

On Celebrity, we can go into the website and check-in ahead of time and then print out our boarding passes. We can add all of our info ahead of time (credit card, travel arrangements, etc). Does Princess do the same thing? It's too early to check in or I would try it and see if it works the same way.

    Thanks!!

  14. Does anyone know if there are more options for wifi on this ship other thas the one they have listed on the website? Over $200 for the whole week, it seems high after getting off the Independence where it was $99 (and that was the upgrade!). Maybe I'm missing other packages?

  15. 9282 has the sofa next to the balcony and bed next to the closet. Nice choice with cabins above and below and no pool deck overhang since it is on the hump that has the same width as the pool deck. Enjoy!

Thank you so much! We were hoping the bed is not next to the balcony! Can't wait :)

  16. We are a group of hearing impaired cruisers and we always ask for CART. Celebrity has provided one 3 times and NCL did once (after a big ole deal made by me. I brought a friend typist to type for me since NCL would not provide one. They agreed to provide her with a cabin in exchange for typing. Inside, probably worst location on the ship, but they did it).

Princess flat out refuses, after many many emails back and forth with the accessibility dept. Our travel agent joined the fight and still......they will not provide one. All of them will provide an ASL interpreter with enough notice, but that doesn't help us. We only know a little sign language.

It's a struggle! But we still keep advocating :)

  17. We've left a whole garbage bag full of clothes. We wrote on the bag "garbage" and then "basura" (in case they knew Spanish lol). We take some clothes we really don't want anymore and then leave them. Less laundry and more room in the suitcase. We have a cruise ship entertainer friend who said the stewards would love to have our clothes (!). He said he does the same thing when his contracts are up and he heads home - leaves clothes he doesn't want anymore for the stewards to go through. So.....I still do that when I have clothes I don't mind wearing one more time and never seeing again.

  18. Hi, we have a group of 8 (so far) sailing on the Royal Princess and most of this group has a hearing loss. Some profound, some moderate. This is our very first time ever sailing Princess. We've been sailing Celebrity, which we LOVE, but have decided to try something new.

Celebrity always provides us with a CART typist (a captionist) at our request. This typist types out what is said in the muster drill and any shows/talks/games that we request. On our recent cruise 2 weeks ago, the CART typist even went on a excursion with us on a catamaran and typed what was said as we did a coastal tour.

Does anyone know if Princess provides this service as well? It could be a make/break situation if they don't. We still have time, haven't made final payment but we are really, really hoping they will provide this service so we can try out a new cruiseline :)
