  1. wondering about that post where the poster asked if the magnetic door signs would work. They never did get an answer. I am wondering the same!?? Are the doors magnetic? We have magnetic signs we want to use.

Thanks for the reply on this site.

    yes they are.

  2. For me, it has to be Mike Szwajkowski ! He was CD on Adventure when we sailed from Puerto Rico a few years ago. He really kept things going. :D

We had Mike a few times as Cruise Director. His comedic timing was right on. He was a very visible CD...found all over the ship. A most personable man. We were sorry to hear he resigned from RCCL to pursue a career on dry land. We ( the MIXED NUTZ) miss him.:p

  3. We are Diamond members on RCCL. It has been our cruise line of choice for quite some time. However, this past June we tested the waters of Princess by cruising on the Caribbean Princess out of Brooklyn, NY. I have to say that I believe both lines are fundamentally similar. There were actually some things I liked how Princess did it better and some not. Our overall experience was a big positive and we will certainly cruise them again in the future.

The biggest difference to date is of course the ship design. I spoke with many people on CB and they like the design just fine whereas I prefer the RCCL big ships with the Royal Promenade, and of course on the Oasis class...... it's surely something else.

Princess has the new Royal Princess coming up and I will certainly cruise on her. I like how Princess is moving ahead in design...going towards the RCCL interior but holding it back to resemble what has worked well for them.

They are both good line in my opinion.

  4. Gloria Estfan, was the Godmother of the Nordic Empress back in 1990.

She was up on the pool deck for sail-away and in the night clubs at night. She was on our tender going over to Coco Cay with her son and husband. Her son was about 11, ( just a guess) and hew was a typical little boy jumping in the pool even though the signs stated "no diving". She seemed to be very down to earth and not a snobby type at all. Just mingled with us regualr folks. I was very impressed with her.

  5. Karaoke is a poor excuse for entertainment. We are paying top dollar to cruise and nobody wants to hear their cruise companions trying to provide an evenings entertainment.

In most cases the everyday cruiser cannot belt out a tune.

It's an interactive activity. Sometimes it's a real blast. Depends on the staff running it.

  6. I also make up my door signs out of scrapbook supplies and my cricut. I never put my original work on the door,I make copies and keep the originil for my scrapbook. I have had folks( probably kids) rip them off of the door. I can pop a fresh one on the door when it goes missing.

These days I copy the original onto heavy weight stock and then laminate them. I usually make them all for all of our group. ( and name tags also) It helps to make this all more fun.

  7. I made my own door sign w/magnetic paper from Staples. Just with our name, town and state and cruise critic name. Does any one know if the magnetic paper will stick to the doors on Royal Car. Serenade?

My hubby thinks it is silly. I am taking it anyway. I also made up a business card with our name and email. Last cruise we kept talking about exchanging info but never actually did it.

We've used business cards for years now. And have gotten others in return so we know we are not totally nutz.

  8. Bonnie- would you pick 1402 over 7708? Is 1402 balcony covered partially or totally. Is 1404 is as good as 1402?

Having been on both 1400/1700 & 7688 & 7708 I always recommend the 7th deck corner afts. (7708 and 7408) The large window opening to the side allows for a huge vista of view plus the balcony is larger than the corner afts on deck 10, and not to mention the wonder air flow because of the round window. However, the cabin is larger in 1400 and 1700. Since I proportionally spend more time awke on the balcony than in the room, the larger room does not do anything for me.

We'll again be in 7708 on Liberty in July.

  9. Beautiful pictures! We had the equivalent of this balcony on the Independence in November and will have 7688 on the Navigator next month.

While we did have a major soot problem one night on the IOTS, we didn't have any soot on our NOTS aft balcony last year. I don't know if it's just luck (which way the wind is blowing) or something else (maybe burning garbage indifference to the wind direction???), but the IOTS seems to have a lot more mention of soot in various posts.

Still, IMHO, except for the presidential suite, this is the BEST aft balcony on voyager/freedom class ships!

I think you are right about the soot. While we never have had that experience I understand that it can happen, but does have something to do with the captain and the shop/wind direction when they blow out soot. If they do it correctly, no problem ever. Still.... I'll take the aft any day.

  10. I make door signs for all of our Mixed Nutz cruise group members. They are personalized with their cruise critic names.

I have also made door signs for the upcoming balcony party........ the leaving St. Lucia balcony party...etc.

I found an internet party supplier that has full size door covers ( like for Halloween) in many different designs.

Just noticed in Party City stores have a roll out plastic that is like grass and jungle. I think great for placing in front of the balcony rail.

  11. Just love sitting out there watching the wake as the ship heads to our next locale.

Yessss.... we too are wake watchers from our corner aft balconies. It is one of the most peaceful and relaxing things you can do. On sea days some early morning coffee is also nice.

  12. Okay... just to add some "flavor", color.... here are three pictures... one of the ship, one of the Promenade and one of the dining rooms.

Adding some Flavor as well. We were on the 4th sailing of Freedom.About the time they got the early kinks out with all the extra passengers. The bottom group is from Freedom.

  13. Bonnie,

Or anyone can jump right on in. We have 1400 booked on the Freedom of The Seas. I've looked at all the pictures but can't figure this one out. My DD (9) is sailing with us and it doesn't look like there is any privacy at all in the cabin-no curtain separating her pull out from our bed. Also where is the TV situated? She like to relax/nap in the afternoon but it doesn't look like the TV faces any furnture. Any help is appreciated.

    Susanne

As I recall, the TV is a flat screen and is mounted on a swivel stand. My son could lay on the sofa bed and watch TV.

  14. I admit we are aft cabin snobs. We have loved Princess and Carnivals aft cabins so much! Looking at the Liberty of the Seas, I am not so sure that I will like the metal obstruction of the back of the ship, which is making me hesitant about booking. The aft cabins that are open are 1702, 7708, 9404, 9402. For you all that have stayed in these cabins, which should I pick.

How is staying in an aft cabin on RCCL compared to Princess and Carnival's aft cabins?

We had 1700 on Freedom. That was the corner aft. The cabin on the inside was better than the balcony. On Voyager class ships we like the corner afts on deck seven. Even though there is structure out there, it does not ruin the view. The large porthole gives you an increased view from out of the side. 1700 has no side view. To me it becomes cavelike. The ones you are referring to must be the middle ones and they should be fine

  15. I need some sugesstions on clever things to bring with me. I read somewhere to bring a shoe bag that hangs over the door to put in your sunglasses, tickets, chapstick, all those things you don't remember where you put them. Great Idea. Anyone else have really clever ideas?
