  1. I too have been wondering about the dry dock. I last went on the Spirit 2 years ago, and while the public rooms were fine, the cabins were in need of a facelift even back then. I am going next Monday on said ship and if no-one has posted before I will report back on my return on 23rd Feb.

Apologies for the delay, due to computer problems.

Not much to report however. Cabins still the same, although my shower floor had been regrouted! Galaxy of the Stars had new carpet and chairs and looked very smart, but it is a lovely room. I think the buffet had new carpet from my last visit 2 years ago.

I enquired at the Cruise Next desk about the full refurbishment, and she said there was nothing scheduled she knew of.

I took a peek at our mattress and would say it was new. It had a topper and was comfortable, if a little firm for my taste. We had, yet again, a brilliant cabin steward, Switley. We had to make a complaint about noisy neighbours 4am every morning. This was dealt with promptly and efficiently and we had no more problems. Furthermore on our return to our cabin there was a bottle of wine and a tray of chocolate treats waiting for us from customer services.

So that is it really. Spirit is a very elegant ship, let down only by the cabins, and the buffet furnishings. We have picked a cruise for next year which will involve the Spirit again, so fingers crossed for some changes ??!!

  2. Anyone have any updates as to what was done in dry dock? I'm guessing not a lot, but I'm curious as to whether rooms/ beds were updated as it seemed to be a common complaint I read in reviews.

That said I can't wait til our med cruise on the 18th May. It's our first ever cruise :D:)

  3. Sailing on 13th February 2017 on Norwegian Spirit. Wondering what weather to expect. Anyone just back or onboard tell me?

We have done this cruise 4 times in January and once in December. The weather has always been pretty good. Pleasantly warm not much rain and seas not rough. Can be a bit breezy/chilly on deck when cruising.

We are on the same cruise as you 13th Feb. Hoping the weather could be a little warmer than January? We will see. Enjoy!

  4. I have been tracking the Spirt, something to do on a cold day in England. She left dry dock in Marseilles on Friday and went to Barcelona. The next cruise was due to leave yesterday, 21st, but the ship is still moored in Barcelona! I am on the 13th Feb cruise. I would have preferred the current cruise but it didn't exist when I booked and it was too expensive to change.

I would imagine there is a technical problem that stopped her leaving yesterday. I will keep tracking and post if I find out anything.

  5. Hi, and thank you so much for your brilliant review. We are off in the morning on said cruise! Done it before on Jade and Spirit, so Epic will be a completely new experience I think. Looking forward to Priscilla, my lovely cruise agent says it's fantastic and so do you. Although we are in our late sixties, can't imagine it will offend us!! I do hope you will have the opportunity to cruise in a balcony or at least ocean view in the future. Nothing like lying on your bed watching and hearing the ocean. Will be checking for your posts for the rest of today. Almost time to check in. Good wishes to you both for your future together, I'm sure it will be great.

  6. Sorry, this is a slight variation on this thread, but can I use the onboard credit I am getting as part of my booking in the casino? I fear the answer will be no, but can't seem to find any clarification anywhere of this. Thanks and happy cruising to everyone. Two weeks today and we will be off!

  7. Just home from Heathrow Airport, having had our flight to Barcelona cancelled and they couldn't get us out to catch the boat! I suppose the moral of the story is always travel to the port the day before you sail. I have never done this before and always been fine, but next time ???

So now we have to board at Casablanca and miss 2 days of our cruise. We are flying to Casablanca tomorrow via Madrid and will have to stay in an hotel overnight. Not sure if the insurance will pay or not for the extra expense.

All messages of sympathy will be greatly appreciated. Anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks for all your kind replies. I have heard from the travel agent who booked the cruise and we are booked into 5 star in Casablanca for tomorrow night and transfers arranged all free of charge.

At the moment it is quite foggy here again. We live only a short distance from the airport. Hoping it will be ok tomorrow, everyone keep fingers crossed for us. If I don't post again tomorrow you know we have gone!

  9. I'm going on the 9 day canaries and morocco cruise on 10th dec, one reason being I was looking forward to meeting a friend in lanzarote.

Checking it it, it seems the spirit hardly ever gets into Ariciffe! It didn't last week or the cruise before. Has anyone actually made it?

Why don't NCL change the itinery when this happens so often?

We have been on this cruise twice in January, always docked in Lanzarote and the weather has always been good, no rough seas to speak of. As the boat is out of commission for our usual time, we booked for 10th December instead. To be honest it is our least favourite destination and we didn't get off the boat last time, although thinking we should do a trip this year, so we will see??
