  1. Yep, hope springs eternal!  What is on the webpages if read closely will revel that those are past excursions and none are yet committed for this cruise. They are intended to provide guidance of what may be offered. Let the selection games begin.... well shortly we hope.

Well so today is August 28 and we can reserve our excursions for our April 27

cruise and they are still not sowing up.....argh!!

Hopefully, tomorrow. Well, a girl can hope, right :)!

    Hi snorkle lover,

Is that because of your suite category?  I can’t book until Sat.

The TA monetary benefits depend on the cruise cost and also the cruise line.

Our preferred cruise line is providing US $8,000 in OBC, but our TA can only provide an additional CAN $500 pp. Viking limit the rebates that TA's can provide based on length of cruise. For over 15 days it is $500 pp in the currency used to purchase the cruise.

Most other cruise lines do not restrict TA perks.

+1 huge difference between Viking and Regent WC rebate with our TA.

  4. I’m a planner, but mostly I’m pretty flexible with ships excursions.  Bill prompted me think about what I can’t miss on this trip and that is the Alhambra.  Gotta see it.  I know that Regent has offered this before from Motril, but nothing solid offered as of yet.  The only guided tours they have offered in the past were not included.  So, wait and see what they offer or book now with independent?  Tickets go quickly I understand!  Tictok, tictok!

My problem is that we should not have to look at the website every day.  Excursions opened for our March 2020 Splendor cruise a while ago but excursions did not appear until this week.  I learned about them on Roll Call.  I would had to look on the computer for way too many days waiting for something to show up.  We would rather stay on the ship or walk around the town than look on the website every day.

Jackie, I’ve been reflecting on the Regent excursions approach and am trending towards your opinion.  Here’s why for me:  Silversea - not included - did my own or signed up on board - very happy.  Older Regent - not included - did my own or signed up on board - very happy.  Sea Cloud - included but no choice other than book your own - went with the flow - mostly happy.  Tauck River - same as Sea Cloud.
In the above cases, I either spent time planning well in advance or just went with the flow.  No real angst.

Now, however, I find myself checking daily for the excursion details, delaying planning other excursions to see what Regent will finally offer to make that decision.  A drag!

  6. Jackie, still the frustration factor for us retentive folks.  No pricing, missing Motril data, no excursions for Granada, etc.  Requesting email for excursions results in no excursions available.  😖  11 days from booking excursion time.  Is this normal?

  7. Looks like you can sign up for email notification and complete census online.  Based on the timeline, it looks like there will be adequate time to complete the survey.  It doesn’t have to be done on Apr 1.

My wife took pictures of all pages of bar menus on our cruise last month. Tonight I can go through her phone and post specifics for whisk(e)ys, although I'd rather not post dozens of pics. IIRC, all drinks (other than bottles of wine) on bar menus other than Torshaven (i.e. Lobby, Pool, Explorer's Lounge, Aquavit, Theater) were under $15 (typically around $6).

But they absolutely had Maker's Mark.

I don't have the Torshaven menu, as that was an electronic menu on a tablet, but most premium pours there were seriously premium, with prices above the $15 SSBP limit.

Thanks much for the offer, but please don’t go through the effort.  Like most folks, I have preferences, but go with the flow.  Not a game changer.  Like I said previously, a first world problem!

Definitely had Maker's Mark on Viking Jupiter.

That was a Viking River menu.

Viking Ocean pricing is in dollars, While Viking River pricing is in Euro’s.

Thanks for the clarification. Still a disconnect with just_dont comment above re: Maker’s Mark.

Your post prompted me to check a website I've used before to research ports, cruisetimetables.com  .  There are similar sites out there as well, I believe.

Anyway, Voyager is calling in Alexandria next year, which, along with Port Said, are the closest ports for Cairo.

However, I didn't see very many cruise lines that call at both Safaga and Port Said / Alexandria on the same itinerary.  I think there was one line, but not one I'm familiar with.

I know that Viking does and I think that NCL does as well.  I’ve been looking at possibilities for Egypt on a longer non-riverboat cruise.  The Regent WC caught my eye, but as I’ve said in other posts, it is a little more difficult to see the pyramids and Luxor without an overland excursion.

Agree but stand behind my statement.

In my opinion, it is difficult to combine a luxury cruise with seeing the pyramids.  This may not matter since the TS (Thread Starter) did not sound as if they were discussing Regent.

The TS (me) was talking about Regent, but also have looked at what other cruises offer.  Thus the reason for the original question.  To me, it makes it more difficult and expensive for the customer if Regent doesn't have a stop for both Luxor and Cairo (pyramids) and their passengers wish to see both.  I was just wondering if anyone factually knew why Regent chose their approach.

MadMarine - obviously you will not see "most things" in Cairo, Luxor or Alexandria if you are sailing on a ship (just as you will not see "most things" in most parts of the world in one or two days).

yes, obviously.  But it is possible to see the highlights of Luxor and Cairo including pyramids, without having to do an overnight from Luxor with ship positioning.  It will also allow for experiencing the Suez transit and a bit of rest between Luxor and Cairo.

Not sure what others think but, in my opinion, the odds of "repatriating those items in protective custody of the British Museum" are slim to none.  Not sure what the odds are that  the new museum in Giza (adjacent to Cairo) will not be destroyed or attacked.

Sadly, I agree.  The new Acropolis museum is still waiting, I believe, for their marbles.

    🤔 🤔

There are many artefacts in the Cairo museum that cannot be seen in the British Museum in London (and we don’t have many Pyramids 😉)

In particular the Tutankhamen treasures that are on world tour at present are due to return to Egypt permanently after the tour (to be displayed in a new museum at Giza scheduled to open in 2021)

This is indeed good news!  I’ve just finished reading an update, they have pushed up the opening date to 2020.  Time will tell.  These things tend to slip.

Perhaps a first step in repatriating those items in protective custody of the British Museum.  😏
