What is a "traditional" bow design?  Bow designs are not aesthetic art designs. They have practical uses. And with technology evolutions, bow designs change, too.

Besides, Icon' bow design *is* traditional since it looks much more like early ocean liners.

Ok, the long-used "raked bow" is what I was referring to.  See how pretty?     As opposed to the second 2 ... just hideous.

  2. Wouldn't it be nice if, for this next class, the rumors of smaller were actually true?     And that they would go back to  taking more of a dignified approach ?

Like ..  no roller coasters or waterslides hanging off the sides?   And no giant cartoon characters and balls and shapes and bumper cars and ropes courses all over the upper decks?  No gimmicky silliness like observation capsules that rise to the heavens.     Just more aesthetically pleasing ..  and maybe even (gasp!) more  'traditional/classic' cruise ship looking design .. unlike the shapes of the behemoths that have been coming out with all the cruise lines this past few years?  Maybe back to a more traditional bow design again, as opposed to that ugly Icon-style/Celebrity Edge/Norwegian Prima barge-like bow.  (Yes, I know, i know .. more efficient, but still .. ugly).

And a smaller more manageable size .. and not as heavily family oriented as these last classes have been?

Just wishful thinking on my part, but i'm hoping for a little of this!

All things considered, I have a feeling NCL wishes the ship captain had waited an hour to get them back on board.  The national media ran hard with this story, and there is just no good way to spin it for NCL.  This seemed a bit different to me than drunken pier runners in Cozumel who can't tell time.  I'm all for policies until they create a damn fool result.

Except that they didn't know where those people were or when they might be back. - if at all.   If they did wait one hour .. or 2 or 3 ... and then left, people would still be criticizing them for not waiting longer.    NCL and the captain did nothing wrong here.  NCL is telling it like it is in their own comments .. they were on a private excursion and got back to the tendering location over an hour past cut off  time. Go off on your own .. then you assume all responsibility for getting yourself back on time. If not, oh well.

  4. We like to have room service coffee delivered to our cabin pre-breakfast.  We were on Mariner last April and was surprised that the free coffee was pretty good (on prior trips, the free coffee was either bad or really bad!).  I like the little pastry plate and the fresh fruit plate that you can order alone with the coffee.  Always came right on time each AM.

Coffee in the promenade cafe is really good as well..

  5. I don't think it's about ridiculing at all, really  .. its all just part of the fun.  What i've seen is people up on deck whooping and cheering them on as they run toward the gangway and then the claps, etc. when they make it on.

I only ever saw someone denied once .. and it was more because he was wasted drunk and combative and was screaming and throwing his fists at the ship gangway/security staff in Cozumel last April. .  People did cheer when they yanked up the gangway and left him behind .. being carted off by the Mexican police .. which he deserved.

There are so many reasons why someone could miss the ship - not all of them are the persons fault either.

I think regardless its a horrible situation to be in and I can't help feeling sorry for them, it's my worst nightmare having that happen to me.

A worse nightmare is the ship sinking.   At night.

That would have had to be one tiny person! And how would he see the shower even IF he could get under there. It's not like a typical bed where you could lay there and look out🤣🤦‍♀️

I'm guessing he was hiding under the bed in hopes of hearing some bouncy-bouncy-squeaky-squeaky above him. 🤪

  8. Trying MSC (Seashore) for the first time this coming September.   (Tried Norwegian Escape just before Covid and loved it).

We had a great cruise on Mariner last April.  Ship is gorgeous and the staff were all terrific, MDR and WJ food mostly all good ,even ..  but we all found it a bit tough to swallow that the fares and things like the bar package, specialty dining prices and even the shore excursions are SO much higher than just a few years ago.   RC (and, to be fair, probably others too) are gouging people now because they can.   So many people still on the covid rebound and will pay whatever prices they have to ... esp the ones that "must" get on the brand new ships.

That .. and the sameness was another factor for us too.   This felt like nearly every other RC ship we've been on.   Same look, same venue names, same cabin decor, same Promenade, same Windjammer, same, same, same  .. everywhere.   We've been on Monarch, Jewel, Liberty, Independence, Explorer, Enchantment .. and they all just feel the same now.    I have zero interest in the hideous floating family monstrosities out now with their slides and rollercoasters and 6,000+ pax  .. so all this, adding to the pricing has us straying away now.

May be back to RC, maybe not .. but paying so much more for the same ole same ole .. that's just not working for us anymore.

    Hello,

We arrived on cruise day and realized I brought my Hungarian passport instead of my U.S passport. They looked me up, and admitted that they see I am a U.S. citizen, but would not allow me to board without my U.S passport. We are now out about $3000 and experienced major emotional damages. Royal Caribbean will not refund us, only for taxes and gratuity. Do I have a case against them?
    thank you!
