  1. Will be sailing on the Regent line for the first time in 2018. I am a non-smoker and am wondering if smoking is allowed on their ships and if so where? The casino, decks, etc.? Hoping it is not allowed anywhere!!!!

  2. Always amazes me when people think "their" child is "well behaved and mature" compared to everyone else's child. Why would you even think it is a good idea to bring your child to a cocktail hour?! And I am sure these are the very same parents thinking their child is so "well behaved and mature" that no one will mind when they let them swim in the adults only pool area. Some of us cruising really enjoy having places and events on the ship that are adults only!

  3. So happy to hear they are making announcements! Last summer while on a Baltic cruise we were one of those people who had to wander around with our plate of food trying to find a seat. So sick of seeing people just sitting there with no food or an empty coffee cup and looking at their cell phones. After the first several days we said forget this and just began sitting down at ANY table that had two empty seats and people who weren't really eating. Got a lot of ugly looks, but too bad. And guess what? Usually the "potted plants" would get up and leave!

  4. Last summer we did a two week cruise in northern Europe and purchased three bottles of liquor on-board. It was delivered to our room the last day. It had to be packed in our check through luggage. We were flying from Southampton to Philadelphia. The shop on the ship that sold us the liquor had bubble wrap available. They were suppose to deliver it with the bottles but did not so I simply went down and got three long sheets of it. Placed each bottle in one of this giant ziplock bags used for freezing casseroles and then taped the bags tight with a roll of clear packaging/mailing tape. Then I wrapped each bottle in the bubble wrap and used more tape to hold the bubble wrap in place. One bottle went in the center of of each check in suitcase swaddled in T-shirts, nightgowns, etc. Managed to get all three bottles home with no breakage. It was a lot of work but they were unusually shaped cylinders of Russian vodka that we were bringing home for gifts. I had the roll of packaging/mailing tape in my carry on when we arrived in London three days prior to boarding in Southampton so I could use it to attach our ship's luggage tags when we left London. Was very happy I had the tape!

  5. I always bring duct tape with me. But instead of packing a roll of it I take an old gift card or "fake" credit card (always coming in the mail) and simply wrap duct tape around it so it is flat for packing. Keep it with my luggage and just bring it each time I pack/travel. My same flat roll has cruised to Alaska, the Caribbean and all over Northern Europe! I also bring Bonine, Imodium AD, bandaids, eye drops, and sun tan lotion. You can buy most of these things on the ship but if seas are rough the Bonine sells out very quickly! You can borrow board games from the library or game room but they seem to get checked out very early on and people keep them in their cabin for the duration so can be hit or miss. Load your Kindle or plan to borrow library books when you first get on the ship. Although the book selection is getting slimmer lately. Pop up laundry hampers are the best as it keeps the laundry confined. Zip lock bags (multiple sizes) serve many purposes (good to use one ziplock bag to put in the room safe with your passport and valuables so nothing gets left behind in the safe) and some empty kitchen trash bags are good for packing dirty clothes when time to go home. I have never brought the over the door storage or organizing containers; plenty of drawer and closet space. Luggage fits under the bed especially if carry on suitcases are put inside of the larger cases. Bring less clothes and shoes than you think you need; you will tend to wear things more than once cause who cares what others think; odds of ever seeing these people again are pretty slim! Plus they will be doing the same thing! And I never bring any jewelry. Have a wonderful time!

  6. Called Royal Caribbean and was told that they hadn't opened reservations for the shows yet and I should just keep checking each day as once it opens they will fill within two days! They were unable to tell me which days/evenings the shows were scheduled for. Then I was told that there is not a North Star on the Anthem of the Seas! I suggested he check that again for me and then he came back and said yes there was a North Star but no reservations could be made online for it; they have to be made once I got on the ship. Seriously? Waiting in line with hundreds of people to schedule? I can live without the North Star but I am going to be pretty mad if I can't get into the shows and have to wait to see if someone doesn't show up! I think Royal Caribbean needs to get their act together; hopefully this isn't an indication of how the cruise is going to go!

  7. Sailed out of Southhampton last summer for the first time and it was the WORST experience (Princess line). Yes, you have to wait to be called by your deck level to board. You may board early if you are a suite (junior suites do not count) or above. You are directed to sit in your "deck" area and wait until called. It was very disorganized. Between the staff not really knowing what they were doing and seeming to be totally confused and passengers not cooperating and listening; it was chaos. Not to stereotype but the vast majority of passengers waiting (and complaining) were from the UK and it was not a pleasant wait with all the RUDE behavior, complaining, lack of respect for the staff and pushing (most of which carried over onto the cruise ship for the next 14 days). Ugh! Although we have been cruising for years somehow we have missed going out of Southhampton and what we experienced was nothing like we have ever experienced before. There are a lot of "special snowflakes" out there who just don't think the rules apply to them and it just makes things problematic for everyone else. Will never sail out of Southhampton again.

  8. Exactly what does Princess require at cruise check in? I am reading that failure to present required travel documents, visas or vaccination certificates at cruise check in will result in denial of boarding. As a US citizen leaving from Southampton for a Baltic cruise do I need to be bringing documentation from my family doctor that I have had all of the routine immunizations, Hep A, and flu shots?

  10. Does anyone know what the hours on the casino are when the ship is doing multiple European ports? Is the casino closed while the ship is in port? Also if you wanted to play the slot machines can you just use US dollars or do you have to be linked you your onboard account?

  12. I will be traveling to London, Brussels, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Tallinn, and Gdansk this summer. I have booked my tours through Princess Cruises rather than independent tour companies so everything will be paid in advance. Assuming I would be using a credit card for purchases I might make when I am shopping on the tours/sightseeing what types of things would I not be able to use a credit cards for? I am planning to purchase the various foreign currencies (Pounds, Euro, Krone, Krona, Rubles, and Zlotych) in advance (I can get all of them through my local travel club) and am trying to determine just how much I would need to bring. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

  13. My husband and I will be taking a 14 night cruise on Caribbean Princess this summer and I am wondering what the send out laundry services are like. How good of a job do they do, are clothes damaged when returned, cost, and the turn around time. I know there is a laundry room on each deck, but hate to think of doing multiple loads of laundry on at sea days but am also hoping to not travel with a ridiculous amount of luggage! Any thoughts/advice?
