I have read all these comments carefully and agree with Whistling being caused by open balcony doors at night. This can indeed be a nuisance to neighbouring cabins. I don`t believe the temperature in other cabins is affected but firmly believe costs are increased - just like your car AC being inefficient with windows open. My main reason for writing is because I was particularly interested in a couple of references to CABIN THROAT.

I am a very experienced cruiser and suffer very much with sore throats all night long. I have always been convinced that it is caused by the AC. If I thought that leaving the balcony door open would cure this then I`m very sorry if you think me selfish but I would do it. Can anyone please tell me if they have any experience of this or offer advice on how to combat CABIN THROAT.

I'm alright jack springs to mind. Yes very selfish !

I do exactly the same with the share centre, just send them an e mail with your folio reference number and cruise number,  booking reference and sail date, and they send P&O the request, all done in a day or two.

It is still an email how ever way one wishes to proceed, either directly ones self  or through an intermediary 😁

Thanks.  Thinking of taking the plunge.  Are statements on hl available on demand?

    Yes,

Just go to your online account, select the pdf version and delete your account number but leave your name on top right corner to prove ownership Before saving to desktop and emailing with the further details required.

Very helpful thanks.  Could you tell me please what cruise details you need to send to shareholder benefits?  Thanks

Your Name, Reservation Booking Number, Ship Voyage number, together with proof you have the shares, (as I said I just attach my latest statement with the account number deleted) and email it together with the requested details to shareholderbenefits@carnivalukgroup.com.  (a statement is available from your on line account with HL)

The email must be sent after full payment and before 3 weeks of sailing date.

I usually ask for a new Booking confirmation to be sent, showing the additional on Board Credit this usually happens anyway, but not always. Hence my request.

Redmayne Bently can obtain Carnival Shares and are excellent at sorting shareholder  OBC

If you cruise on any of the 7 lines under Carnival mire than once a year its a good deal

Dont Redmayn  Bently charge £40  if no action on account after 3 years ?

    quite from their Q&A

    https://www.redmayne.co.uk/faqs

Can I avoid the £15 certificated charge?
Yes, by taking advantage of our Nominee service, which is free to open with no annual administration charge. Please note that if we have held your investments for a full three-year period and no trades have been conducted an inactivity custody fee of £40 will be applied to your account.

    I use  Hargreaves Lansdown

     https://www.hl.co.uk/shares/share-dealing

No charges and just do a print of the  pdf account  with account number crossed out  and email to

shareholderbenefits@carnivalukgroup.com with the required cruise details.

Has the ship moved to the regular port area?

If so, when were people allowed to disembark?

I'm still worried about the few people who appeared to fall into the water as the MSC Opera was bearing down between the riverboat and that dock area.

Any news?  Is *everyone* truly accounted for?

    Thanks.

    Apparently thankfully no deaths

  7. One would have thought that The annoying whistling sound caused to others by leaving a balcony door open, would stop the occupier of the cabin from doing it. .

If you ignore the notice and a fire spreads or a  serious incident  occurs due to you ignoring that sign, then you could be in extreme trouble and prosecuted.

Be prepared for a knock/phone call from security at anytime during the night, possibly being kicked off at next port.

Signs are placed for a reason!

  8. Agree completely that its up to the individual, who pays or not. That has never been mentioned, until you mentioning it.

However Profit is made up of Spending and saving. So if a company has to spend it does not save, so in my eyes that is less profit. Less profit for a company means less payout.

  9. Because the Company will make up the shortfall in line to the minimum agreed with the workers contract.   More people pay gratuities, less money company have to pay into make up the shortfall.

Less profit made less shareholders benefit !

I wouldn't be too sure about that  (Q. Ann)  I think some folks could be in for a surprise 😉

With Ships no longer taking Female names  due to not being gender pacific , then Perhaps Carnival will take a first step and name it Prince Charles/ William Or Harry or George  etc

  11. Cheaper option 2 miles shorter by Taxi and not using By Pass, is Christchurch  Railway station to Bournemouth Airport. (Which actually is in Christchurch)  Local Taxi nearby.

The only problem is not all trains will stop at Christchurch Station,

Real cheapy with no dropping off charge with time to spare, Bus 737 from Bournemouth Railway Station

    Good afternoon,

Would anyone have a good map of the table layout of the balcony (2nd. floor) of the Britannia restaurant. Table numbers would be preferred.

Hopefully this will be clearer, Not sure if its up to date however -- may help

We've stayed at the Sheraton Times Square which is in a good location.  Can't fault it and a lot of flight crews stay here which DH and I always take as a good sign.

Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel also have Aircraft Crews staying.

I agree with you, I  don't expect this has anything to do with the operational security to a ship.  I believe this came about more as request from these officers  and probably their wives  ( who from time to time accompany them )    I expect they didn't want their own personal security  (eg homes, property etc) exposed all over social media whilst they are away for months on end. ?

Mentioning who the present Captain or staff are on board in no way breaches any security or safety.  Only their friends know were they live,  (unless they themselves post pictures of outside their own homes then I would agree, as addresses then can be found !)  This is a cruise forum after all. You will be asking  passengers to stop taking Pictures with Captains and the rest on board next and posting,  together with any Blogs people do whilst on board.

Good advice kalos, but if a Halifax Clarity card is used for ATM withdrawals, it's good to remember that interest accrues from the withdrawal date so best pay it off as soon as you get home.  Other transactions are interest free subject to full payment when that's due and at a very good exchange rate.

A great all rounder is Barclaycard Platinum Cash Back plus.  No fees on non -sterling purchases or ATM cash withdrawals abroad (Although the actual bank or ATM you use may charge a withdrawal fee of a dollar or euro as do some UK ATM's )    until 31 Aug 2023. In fact no fees if you pay off total  amount on each monthly statement.

Just looked at the Amsterdam cruise schedules for one month.  There are still plenty of ships listed including Celebrity, NCL and others - not P&O or Cunard for example which is what we would expect. However, I'm a bit surprised to see a lot of Holland America ships still scheduled for visits.  As HA are part of Carnival it doesn't look like a blanket Carnival ban which is interesting.  Or am I missing something - perhaps the original Dutch connection?  But if as we suppose the action is dictated by Carnival why is one of their brands breaking ranks?  Perhaps more a cruise-line by cruise-line decision?

    https://www.ptamsterdam.nl/en/cruises-portal#calendar-sea-cruise

I think the reason Holland America still use Amsterdam Cruise Terminal is that the Cruises start and terminate from there, therefore not subject to the extra tax being a Home port.
