  1. Norris,

Thank you for taking the time to do your wonderful review. Love your pictures and attention to detail. Enjoy all your food pictures and the addition of costs. It helps to know what to budget.

Sorry about your mishap in St Maarten . We have rented a car there before and easy to get around on your own.

I just finished your fall trip to Rome and have taken notes for our return trip in October staying 4 days before our first Transatlantic trip You are like my husband up early taking pictures before the city wakes up.

Our first cruise was in 79 for our honeymoon and we were on Song of Norway. I think I read where you said you had played the drum on there. It began our love for cruising. This fall will be our 25th cruise. I like Princess but prefer Celebrity however love any cruise we have been on.

Glad to hear you are recovering from your terrible ordeal of break in. Thankful you are still here and continue to write your detailed reviews. Will look forward to future reviews and I will check your blog out. Thank You

  2. Thanks for your honest review. We will be on Reflection in October our third Solstice ship. I totally agree with you about dancing in the foyer. I miss the dance floor that is on Millennium ships. However this June on Summit Alaska cruise they would have a band play for 45 min and then they were done. The whole lounge would be full and then empty out because no music. We love to dance some calories off and would have to change lounges to find music. We picked Reflection for itinerary or would of went on Millennium ship.

  3. Awesome! I really enjoyed the attention to detail and beautiful pictures. The amount of planning you did is obvious in the good results you had. We are on the same cruise on Millennium in June with a 4 day land excursion. Not as long as your trip but will give us a taste. I have bookmarked your report for future.

Have you ever thought about doing a travel blog. I would love to hear about your African adventure if you have a link. Last year I started a blog after reading such great reports on http://www.travellerspoint.com/ There is no charge and it is a good way to keep all of your adventures together.

We went to Galapagos a few years ago on Celebrity and it was a trip of a lifetime. You will love it.

Again thanks so much for the time invested in this fabulous report. It will help so many others in planning their trips!

    Happy and safe travels

  4. LOVE this Cindy, Dan and I had the best time of our lives on this trip it was a pleasure meeting you both will be going back again :o

Surprised you saw this. I have not been on here much. We are looking forward to Alaska cruise in June. We definitely will do another Med cruise just don't know when. Hope lobster season is going good for Dan. Maybe our paths will one day cross again.

  5. We take our first Med cruise in May and are visiting some of the ports you highlighted in

your blog. Thanks for taking the time, loved the pictures of what we can expect.

    Can't wait.

You will love your trip! You will be glad you are going in May and not when it so hot. It was in 70's when we went in October. ENJOY!

  6. We got back from Equinox a couple weeks ago. It was my first time with drink package. I used to order coffee from room service while I was getting ready. This last cruise my DH who does not drink coffee went down to Cafe al Bacio and got my first cup. We would then stop for my second on the way to main dining room and I took it in there to have with breakfast. So much better than coffee in dining room.

  7. Looking forward to your report. I want you to know how much you inspired me. Your trip was so good I booked and just got back from the Med cruise. It was everything I hoped it would be. Because of you we hiked in Kotor and Drubrovnik. Had to find the hole in the wall and have a drink and enjoyed the view. Took Three RIL tours in Italy and what a fantastic way to see so many things in one day. Thanks again I used so many suggestions you made I can not thanks you enough for the time and effort it took you to write.

  8. Local ATM use seems to be the favored suggestion here on Cruise Critic but I do it differently.

I get the minimum amount of Euros that I know I'll need from our local bank before leaving home and then only use ATMs if I need extra towards the latter part of our trip. I find this the most convenient and I've run into problems a couple times using ATM machines in Europe. In between daily limits, communications problems and other issues I don't want to worry about getting enough Euros from ATM's nor having to plan parts of my days around getting to an ATM. Yes they are plentiful but they are not always right where you need them at the most convenient time.

When traveling we carry the extra cash in a hidden money belt type pocket worn under our clothing - along with backup credit cards and other items we won't need immediately. As we travel around a pre-cruise town we'll either carry the items, use the hotel safe or if we're really worried about the in-room safe use the safe deposit boxes in the hotel office (most hotels have these).

Thank lots of helpful information .

  9. Just returned from the Med and stayed in Barcelona - ATM was so easy until one day - no longer was able to access. Had forgotten to call the bank (ATM) and alert them that I would be out of the country. Yes they called the house to inquire- not there so that was no help. Interesting because I had gotten a letter from the bank before I left just a general reminder that no longer do you have to call with a travel alert - evidently that only applied to credit card and not ATM - I had purchased money before I left but the exchange rate was better with the ATM and also a credit card that does not charge a foreign transaction fee.

We did leave money in our safe in Barcelona and yes you do have to watch for pickpockets (as everywhere) but as long as you remain diligent with your personal belongings - fantastic city - Enjoy

Thank you, is there a daily limit? Is it he same 4 number pin that you use in the states?

  10. We leave for Barcelona in 3 weeks then a cruise 4 days later. What do the experienced Europe travelers do. It is our first Med cruise. We looked into getting them before we go We will need quite a bit because 3 of the RILO tours take Euro for payment. My concern is what to do with it while in Barcelona. I realize we will keep it in safe there but I have read crazy reviews where money has been taken even from safes.Do you use ATM's? How is the ships conversion rate?

  11. I have cruised about 25 times. I have had swelling in hands and feet. I am a nurse and decided about 10 years ago to bring a case of water on board. It was before the drink packages were available. Voila no more swelling!!! I am a firm believer. I am lucky the ice does not bother me. This fall we have the classic drink package and I am looking forward to not bringing my own water on board.

One tip I also do is to wear flight socks on long flights. Drink lots of water before flying. My feet will also swell if I do not wear the socks.

I do believe the swelling is the combination of things and how much salt they cook with to make the food taste good. Drinking bottled water has worked for me and I will continue with this. My husband drinks the tap water with no problems.

  12. I continue to enjoy each day's installment. I really appreciate your attention to detail and all of the research you have done. I am taking notes. I have never been to culebre and I have added it to my bucket list.Would you stay at the same place if you go again?

You seem to like to hike. We have found our favorite place so far to hike and snorkel. St John 3/4 of island is a park with lots of trails. There are remote areas to stay. It keeps bringing us back each year.

    Looking forward to the rest

  13. Congratulations on your marriage. Hope you have many happy years together. Traveling is one of the ways we found to recharge our marriage. We will be married 35 this fall. We have been on the Summit twice. I can not wait to read the rest.

Villa H is wonderful. Not for everyone. Glad you two got it. We have been to San Juan many times as a start place for cruises. Stayed in many places but since finding Villa H it will be our go to place from now on. We got upgraded to upstairs room. Everything was wonderful except the ice cold shower. Ours never got warm. Would we stay here again, YES cold water and all. Location and charm would bring us back. We did not eat breakfast just helped ourselves to fruit and coffee. We like to eat in local non tourist places too.
