I can give you a few ideas. If staying downtown close to the pier you could rent an electric bike and ride the 10 mile Elizabeth River trail catching it at the waterfront. It will take you along the Elizabeth river and if you stay on it past a park and through neighborhoods to the Hermitage museum which is a large old home open for self tours.  It sits on the river bank and has a nice garden to enjoy. Or take the bike on the paddle boat across the river to Portsmouth and ride along the waterfront there. Not as much to see in Portsmouth but a nice short ride. Another option downtown is Nauticus, a maritime museum that houses the battleship Wisconsin.  The ship interior is open for viewing.  Or a naval station boat ride tour on the Elizabeth River.

There is also the Chrysler museum of art and hot glass studio which offers glass blowing demonstrations daily at noon I believe.  It is about a 15 minute walk from downtown thru a historical neighborhood and over a footbridge. There is a restaurant inside that has good food.

If you like gardens the Norfolk botanical gardens are lovely; if too hot to walk around there is a hop on and off tram you can take around the garden. That location would require a car or Uber to access.

And of course Virginia Beach has a great oceanfront with a boardwalk and bike path.

Thanks for the information. I like the ebike rides idea l because I'm already an owner of an ebike. How do you recommend the mode of transportation from the port to Virginia beach if we go ...?

    Thank you

If she has power and can trudge along, Caribbean Princess cruises won't be cancelled, because Princess would lose money.

She'll probably just adjust itineraries along the way, if her top speeds are less than the original itineraries call for.

Princess will do anything to avoid cancellations even if the passagers are not happy about it. Corporate profit , first.

I checked all caribbean princess cruises and they all say currently not available.  I read the other day it was having mechanical issues. Anyone know anything?  We are booked in dec 2023 and it says currently not available.

Wow , hope the ship is not going for repairs during that time ?

Your ship will dock in Brooklyn on a weekday morning. NYC Ferry (South Brooklyn route) is perhaps a 4 minute walk from where the ship docks. It will be 20 minutes on the ferry to the Pier 11 stop. Then about a 1 mile walk to the 9/11 memorial.

    Great, thank you !

  6. Hello all,

We're going soon on the Carribean Princess from Fort L. to Quebec city and we would like to visit the 9/11 memorial in NY. Base on what I know we will be on the Brooklyn port but that may change....

How far is it from this port ? Best method of transportation to go there?

    Thank you !!!

If you are still checking this thread, I would suggest that you do the trolley tour that leaves from the port.  I am not sure they are still offering these trolley tours but you could inquire on the website.  It is a great way for you to get an overview of the whole city.  You can get on and off and see sites that might interest you.  You can get off and visit Fanueil Hall (Quincy Market).  There are food places and you can do some souvenir shopping while there.  We live in the area and have done a couple of the trolley tours.  You might ask your cruise line if they know if they still offer the tour and purchase tickets while onboard.  You will already be on the ship so no luggage to worry about.  Stop #2 is the one for North End.  There is a designated place where the trolley would pick you up again. It's a great way to see Boston with only one day.  Hope you have a great cruise.

    Good luck.

TOUR OPTION 2: PURCHASE FROM YOUR SHORE EXCURSION DESK

Purchase tickets through the shore excursion desk onboard select cruise ships. Be sure to ask for the one and only Old Town Trolley Tour of Boston (the orange and green trolley). Most cruise lines allow guests to reserve shore excursions in advance of the cruise through the cruise line website.

Guests are met on the pier and escorted to private vehicles at the cruise terminal.

We provide a 1.5 hour, non-stop tour, designed to maximize your time here in Boston. Your “Must Do” Old Town Trolley Tour of Boston will give you an inspiring city overview. Our expert tour conductors will show you all the major sights such as Beacon Hill, the CHEERS bar, Cambridge, Old North Church, Bunker Hill Monument and Boston Public Garden. The tour ends at your choice of either Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall or back at the ship.

When using Boston cruise excursions through the ship, you will be picked up and returned to the cruise terminal.

This is exactly the tour that we will do the prior to our departure. This is a trolley tour , so no need to book it though Celebrity. I do all that myself by contacting the company directly.

Comfort Inn & Suites Logan International Airport. Certainly not 15 minutes from the airport unless sitting in standstill rush hour. It's one of our three "go to" airport hotels along with Courtyard and Hilton Garden.

Thanks , interesting. But what would be the best mode of transportation, if like us we want to do the Hop on off after our arrival ? Thanks !

I am beginning my search for mid Oct as well.  I think that poster that said you get what you pay for was rude.  We'd like to go in a few days prior but with those $$ rates, it's more than the cruise.  I'm going to look at some airbnb's..

I found a descent hotel , the Holiday Inn Express . 10 minutes walk from subway and really good reviews with a great breakfast . Just over 200 . Pretty good for the quality of the hotel. No worry from past comments. You may check this one if interested. 😆

Travel much? A good hotel (e.g., an Intercontinental) in a major cosmopolitan city like Boston will generally cost about $300+\- per night. Convention in town when you’re trying to get a room? $400 would not be unusual.
Bottom line: “you get what you pay for.”

Bottom line is NO, these compagnies did a good persuasion on you . 😄

  11. Hello,

I have a possibility too book a room on the 2nd deck on the Celebrity Infinity for a cruise next fall.

Rooms 2186, 2192, 2173 and 2183 are available now. Any past experiences from you guys on these rooms or any other ones close ? Particular issues with the fact that the rooms are at the aft of the ship ?

    Thanks for your input.

    Appreciated.
