1. Interesting, we have this cabin, 2106, on the Reflection in April and it's an A1 (Aqua class) cabin. I wonder why it's a C2 on other ships?

It will be our first Aqua class cabin and I am looking forward to the location....and neither of us are light sleepers when cruising, so the noise from above shouldn't be a problem.

Reflection is different than Equinox. 2106 is quite a bit more forward than on the Equinox. Totally different ships, I think.

  2. Thank you for the review. We have 2106 for our 11/2016 cruise on Equinox and had this cabin on Eclipse in 2014, our favorite C2 cabin.

Hmmm. We were on Equinox 11/2015 and the man at the Slush Bar was very non-engaging.

New guy or just found a drink you liked? I would love to give it another chance this year.

Equinox is our favorite ship in the fleet. Sounds like you had a great cruise! Thanks for the report.

Did you have sound issues in #2106? As I said, we LOVE the location.

The bartender at Slush is interesting... the first few times I was there, he did his job, and was, as you said, non-engaging. The 3rd time I went, he looked at me and said "The same? More cuke, less mint?". After that, he would greet me with "Hi, Mrs. Patricia - the same?" On my last day, I went to grab some pictures, and he was actually quite comical. I think, by nature, he's a little shy (interesting quality for a bartender).

  3. We were on the February 12th 10-day Equinox cruise and I must admit, this cruise topped all (and we’ve not had a bad cruise ever!)

Cannot really pin down any one thing that made this so awesome – it was really just a culmination of many great things.

The food, in every venue, was the best we’ve had on any Celebrity ship (buffet, dining room, Mast Grill, Tuscan & Murano, Aqua spa).

Other than the Tuscan Grill, the service we received was over the top. We were Select dining, and on the first night, found an awesome team (Thanks so much Dejan, Robert and sommelier William) and we simply felt spoilt every night we were in their section (most nights!!). I’m not sure what was going on at the Tuscan Grill – appeared to be a less than stellar bus girl and she was throwing off the entire team, but that was the worst service we’ve experienced on Celebrity – thankfully the food was outstanding.

Our cabin steward was not over the top, but he did a good job.

Captain Leo was our captain until the last port day. Man, is he ever engaging! Really enjoyed him. Normally do not really pay much attention to the captains, but he was one we really noticed.

Really loved the new slush bar on the Resort deck. Actually only tried one – the Cool Hand Cuke – which I ordered with ‘more cuke, a little less mint’. Very refreshing and enjoyable. I visited more than once :D

We were in cabin #2106, on the Resort deck. Really love the location, but have changed cabin for future cruises. The noise from the sliding doors and men’s washroom above just doesn’t cut it for light sleepers. I’m a little sad about this! (we’ve stayed in this cabin in the past, on three ships – they are all the same, unfortunately)

    Happy to answer any questions.

    Happy Sails!

    Patricia

  4.
Seeing I started this thread, thought I might pass along my experience. We just got back from 14 night Ultimate Carribean Cruise on Feb 21. We had purchased onboard credit and although we were not able to get cash at guest relation we were able to get cash at the casino for a 5% charge. We were told that any thing left over from our refundable credit would be refunded back to our charge card on the last day of the cruise. As we asked for the cash we were told that they prefer to refund it back to our charge card but if we wanted they would give us the cash on the last day of the cruise which is what they did.
This was exactly my experience on the Equinox. As I checked in as a cash account, they gladly handed over the remaining OBC in cash on the last day.
  5. Hoping some recent Equinox pax can pipe in with their experience with both pulling out cash mid-cruise and cashing out at the end.

As it is our intent to pull cash out as we go, I will definitely report back. Since our cruise is virtually AI, other than internet, for which we have X onboard credit to use, we will have no additional onboard charges. We will definitely make this a cash account when we check in. With $1K of purchased OBC, no reason not to. Have our backup plan in case we cannot draw cash as we go!

I went to Guest Services to pull out some cash from my OBC that I purchased. I was told that I needed to go to the casino, and that they would charge me a 5% service charge. She told me whatever was left will be given to me on the last day (with no service charge). When I checked in I made sure I had a cash account. I've received a notice in my cabin that I need to go finish setting up my account!! Guess I now have my cash for '18 cruise!

  6. We are in exactly the same situation. I really only bought the OBCs because of the excellent exchange rate and plan to bring back most if not all of it. I have read so many conflicting reports re drawing money mid cruise, the general consensus is it cannot be done. I think it depends very much upon each ship and the purser. There doesn't seem to be a Celebrity rule across the board as I have already found out when we were all recently fighting for our quoted OBC price which they upped substantially when they were processed. If you are refused cash you can always get some at the casino where they charge 5% commission. We also have a nice chunk of non refundable OBCs and these are used first so I don't really mind if we lose a few dollars. May I ask what your back up plan is?

The backup plan was/is to just use purchased USD from local bank and credit card. More expensive alternative to pulling out our OBC, but a plan nonetheless. I'm rethinking this, however. If required to pay the 5% to cash out, this is still a better deal than credit card exchange, for certain.

  7. What about the noise from above? We are looking at a concierge guarantee.

We book the one of the first three cabins, starboard (port side has a smoking area right outside the sliding doors). Noise can be hit and miss. It's not noise from the buffet, which is right above, but noise from the sliding doors. If you're noise sensitive you will not like this location.

  8.

I digress slowly to my end question ... so is the exchange rate posted only for buying OBC then? I've read in other threads it's a terrible idea to let Celebrity do my dollar conversion for me? But if they use the same exchange rate as OBC purchases I would be a fool not too. I've yet to check the box on my boarding pass on whether to just allow my CC company to do it or to let Celebrity do it. I suppose I could check with Guest relations when I'm on the boat and change it one way or the other? I don't sail til April so it's a little bit yet. Tx

Have Celebrity let your credit card do the exchange - Celebrity rate is higher (unless things have changed in the past year)

  9. We have cruised many times in C2 cabins on the S class ships deck 12. For us it is a great location. Walk right out to the pool and one deck up to the buffet. I like the afternoon canapes. You can get shrimp cocktail or a cheese plate instead.

This is the reason we book CC. Deck 12 - love it!

  10. Headed to Vegas & got to our airport (small, no shops in it) & the corner of my bag to check just pulled apart when I picked it up. Too big to carry on but couldn't check it that way...now what???

LUCKILY this was a small town airport & low & behold they had some duct tape handy to strap that baby up. Total redneck look but did the trick. Would have really been in a pickle without it.

You can buy a small wad of it without the core.

(and I am the sort to NOT bring most of the above items along, but the duct tape goes everytime now!)

I AM one of those freaks that pack 'just in case' duct tape and yes, last cruise, had to use it when one side of our hard sided luggage got completely smashed up during the air travel. Was able to give my DH THAT look when I pulled out the duct tape and saved the day :p

  11. Hoping some recent Equinox pax can pipe in with their experience with both pulling out cash mid-cruise and cashing out at the end.

As it is our intent to pull cash out as we go, I will definitely report back. 12. All I know is I bought 36 units @ $30.60 CDN.

Each unit is worth 25.00 US.

    25.00 US x 36 units = 900.00 US

    30.60 CDN x 36 units = 1,101.60 CDN - is what it cost me

BMO at today's rate of 1.4791 would have cost me 1,331.19

    Therefore I saved $229.59 CDN

    Exactly!

  13. Last November my hubby booked an inside cabin on Millennium to Alaska for August 2016, at a really good price in Canadian dollars; since then the cost has gone up $800. Based on our weak dollar and the increasing cruise fares, we will be doing all-inclusive holiday this fall, for the first time in over a decade, and will be looking to other cruise lines for an affordable option when we can afford to return to cruising in the future.

    Dianne

Where will you go for an all inclusive? Any where warm is governed by the USD, no? Except Cuba?

  14. We book our cruises early, as experience tells us they do nothing but go up in price. We book in Canadian dollars. We are sailing next month. We booked our flights last March. They are, today, $200 less than we paid. However, our hotel, which we did not prepay, will cost us 50% more. Same goes for cab fare, meals, etc. During our two pre-cruise and one post-cruise day in Fort Lauderdale we will be spending 50% more than we anticipated.

We have also booked the 2017 Mardi-Gras Cruise and a 2018 cruise, both when they were first released. Had no issues with the ’17 and if you look now, insides are going for double what we paid for our C1. But airfare and hotels, if the exchange gets worse, which they say it will, could make this prohibitive.

For 2018 – we’ll see. It is very expensive right now. Do not think we will take this cruise if the price does not come down.

I will be very sad. L

  15. On the Eclipse Feb 7th...booked 18 months ago in Cdn$ at a good rate. We bought US$ when our dollar was at par. Still using them , but we will run out this trip.

This will be our last U.S bound trip until our dollar improves. Maybe in 2 years??

You were clearly the smart one! It's not too often that our dollar gets more favorable then par. Want to sell a little at a profit? :)

  16. Very true, I told my friend the other day who will be watching my cats what my number while on the cruise will be in case anything happens to them and she responded with "if something did happen there isn't exactly a whole lot you can do about it, just enjoy your trip" - she did have a very good point, mind you if something did happen at home while away I'd want to know about it, even if there isn't anything I can DO about it.

I'm curious about that - why? The situation does not change, whether you know or not - so why ruin your vacation?

  17. This year I'm thinking we try and go to St Johns instead of just staying on St Thomas when we are in port. I know I need to take a ferry but what is the schedule? How do I get there and how much does it cost? What beach would you recommend on St Johns? How much should a taxi cost? I'm not looking to spend a ton of money. TIA

I cannot answer some of your questions, but will mention that while we usually never book excursions with the cruise ship, we did for this one. We booked the ferry trip across to St. Johns. Once on St. Johns we're on our own. Reason for doing this is that I've heard that the ferry schedules can get messed up due to water conditions, or that the ferry you plan to take back is full and you can't get on. This guaranteed the ship would wait for us, as long as we're physically on the ferry! Plus, the ferry picks you up close to the cruise port. The regular ferries, you will have to take a cab to get to.
