  1. The BBQ panini is my favorite. Tried the orzo salad during my last cruise (with goat cheese and cranberries) and ended up having it 3 times. On the dessert side - pistachio cup and peanut butter cup. The PB cup never appeared on the CB in June so I hope it still exists. IC is one of my favorite stops

  2. How much are the specialty dining restaurants generally.

If you have anything you feel we should know about Princess we’d love to hear your tips.

We’re looking forward to a new experience!

We've been on the Caribbean Princess(CB) twice this year (April 1 and June 30). Princess used to have passengers wait in the terminal and not allow boarding until cabins were ready. On both of our last cruises we started boarding before 11:00 but weren't allowed into the cabins until 1:00 ish. We just found ourselves a comfortable place to sit (Aft Lido deck). If you decide to eat at Planks or Steamers ($12 cover for either) you can order off either menu (I had bbq and my DH had seafood) - I felt it was too much food. I've felt that the number of books in the libraries on Princess have been shrinking, but in June the CB had multiple copies of 8-10 of the Princess book club book selections. I would suggest getting there early in the cruise for the best selection.

But whatever you do - enjoy!

  3. Direct transfers are difficult to find due to the distance and locations. Your options are cruise line transfer, private car rental, and something called Dover Cruise Bus Shuttle (I am unfamiliar with the details of this).

Public transportation options all include at least one transfer (traditionally in London). When we went last year we took the Underground into London(Heathrow to Westminster - 1 transfer), spent a few nights in London, and then took National Rail down to Dover Priory (from Waterloo) so I'm sure you could take the same route in a single day. We then also had to grab a taxi from the station to the port. The total one way cost was less than £50 for two of us. Please note that we didn't take any of the high-speed options and did have walking (although minimal) which kept the cost down.

Whatever you choose to do - enjoy!

  4. Aww, that's a shame. :(
In reality it wasn't terrible - it's all about attitude. Got stranded onboard for like 3 extra days (free extra cruising) and then an amount equal to 25% or 50% of the purchase price towards a future cruise. Parked at LaGuardia instead of the port so the car was ok too. And got free airport transfers. Priceless memories.

  5. I tried again on my tablet. Nope. Double darn.

We did the Bermuda cruises every summer when they sailed from Brooklyn. I was sorry to see Princess leave Brooklyn for the summer.

Crab legs and shrimp in the buffet upon boarding.

I think they were 9 day cruises, except the first one we did was cut down to 7 days because of the tilt on the sailing before us. Bermuda and the Caribbean. Party started after we passed the Verazano bridge.

Oh well, we can only wish

We took a 4 day cruise to Bermuda in late October, 2012. Had never been to Bermuda before....reminded us of Boston ;p (it was the Superstorm Sandy cruise). So still haven't been to Bermuda.

  6. Did Princess stop the printed final statement of account? Just off the CB and did not get one in our mailbox.

I didn't see anything official, but I assumed that that was the case. We also just got of the CB and didn't receive one, but HAD received one on the 4/1 CB sailing.

  7. January 2019 14 days Eastern/Western Caribbean. Just switched from a mini-suite to a deluxe balcony. Saving $900 per person but losing small amount of OBC and free gratuities. And it is a guarantee, so no idea where the room will be. Only thing I can really tell we are going to be missing is the bathtub. Did I make a smart move??

IMHO, yes.....assuming that you originally booked the MS for the couch and extra room for the longer cruise. The couch is a little smaller and you don't get as much extra floor space as a MS, but we've been in a DB twice and felt it was rather comparable especially when taking the cost savings into consideration!

  8. Didn’t receive an email!

I hadn't gotten an e-mail for the last announcement. Before I called, I checked my profile and discovered that the contact via e-mail offer box had gotten unchecked. I re-checked it and got this one, so maybe this could be your issue too.

    Happy sailing!

  9. This is my first ever cruise - I am so excited! DH and I are debating which excursions to take in Skagway. I am interested in the Yukon Expedition and White Pass Scenic Railway. I believe you take a motorcoach to Carcross, and then on to Fraser to board the White Pass Railway for our return to Skagway. There are many different White Pass Railway options. For those who have done this tour, do you think it was a good choice? Or would you have preferred a different choice?

DH has been looking at the Chilkoot Lake Kayak Experience excursion to Haines. My concern is it could very likely be cold (oh, we will be there July 22, 2018) and if raining, not a fun excursion at all. Has anyone done this excursion, and what are your thoughts?

We are both abut 85% agreed on the White Pass Railway, since we have heard so many people rave about their experience.

We did the bus up and train back tour when we went in 2004 as it was the only tour where you got to actually walk on Yukon soil (a story in itself). We crossed the border at Fraser and the guide and driver agreed to a short picture stop when we saw the amazing Welcome sign. 44b00f708e80d670e230be891cf6a583.jpg

  10. We've opted for the Avebury trip.

This is a THIRD stop on a day excursion which also includes Stonehenge & Salisbury?

Yes. But 3 stops seemed to be the norm for a full day trip. The one we chose is 11+ hours from pick-up to drop-off so it seems to have ample time at each location.

So I'll hazard a guess that "Salisbury" means "Salisbury cathedral".

And that's a shame, because altho' there are no other significant highlights in the centre it's a very pleasant & laid-back historic city centre, well worth soaking-up for an hour or more.

We have 2 hours in Salisbury and from the reviews I've read we will have time to wander around the city and hopefully do some local snack shopping.

Avebury will surely be a photo-stop - possibly en-route from Stonehenge to Bath?
Nope - we visit Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow, plus time to wander among the stones, ending with a stop at The Red Lion.

Windsor has its castle, one of the finest in the country.
We agree and don't feel that the time allotted for the stop on the day tour is enough, so we've decided to do it on our own a different day.

Which reminds me, the tour price almost-certainly includes admission to Stonehenge but probably doesn't include the expected "donation" to Salisbury Cathedral
It actually includes admission into Salisbury Cathedral - score@

    .

    JB :)

We only have 4 pre-cruise days in London and have had to make hard choices as to what we see and do in that short time as we're not sure when we'll be back,

Thanks again for your detailed response!

  11. We'll be taking a day tour to Stonehenge and Salisbury from London in August and the tours I've seen seem to each have a different 3rd (and possibly 4th) stop.

    Our initial ranking was:

Avebury - it's another henge and would be a smaller tour group

    Windsor

    Bath

We did see a tour that visits both Windsor and Bath, but my concern would be that that is cramming too much into a single day.

If you could only visit one (Avebury, Bath, or Windsor), which would you choose and why?

    Thanks! Jennifer

  12. I don't consider myself a coffee slob. I like Dunkin Donuts, Folgers, Hardees/Carl Junior , Starbucks, Lavazza and a few others. But I absolutely can't stand Bojangles or Maxwell House.

So, what would you compare Princess coffee to ?

I do not drink coffee personally, but my husband does and he has always liked the coffee served in the Horizon Court. He is not very picky - at home he drinks Tim Horton's, Dunkin Donuts, and Folgers. He doesn't like Starbucks. He said that Princess coffee is similar to the coffee that he gets on the gaming floor in Las Vegas (if that helps).

  13. I'm a welcome volunteer at the port so take a look at our website - http://www.cruiseforth.com. Let me know if you ahem any more questions

Thank you! I may take you up on your offer. We have an overnight in Rosyth and have plans to attend the Tattoo and visit the Falkirk Wheel & Kelpies but still have extra time available. Were originally hoping to visit Loch Ness, but that was when we thought we'd be docking in Invergordon.

  14. Has anyone traveled to The Falkirk Wheel from the Port of Rosyth? I have some questions if you have! From past posts I have figured out that we should be able to take the train from Inverkeithing to Falkirk (High or Grahamston). My questions are about getting to and from the stations.

    1) I can't seem to find an address for where Princess docks so I'm not sure whether walking to the station is an option. I noticed that there were comments about some of the dock being closed due to construction but we won't be there until August, 2017 so that may not be an issue. If walking isn't an option, what options are there?

    2) I see that both Falkirk stations are about 2.5 miles from the Wheel. Are both routes easily walkable or is one "better" than the other (sidewalks, traffic, etc)?

    Thanks!

    Jennifer

  15. We too still have our original blue cruise cards and remember that cruise fondly (how much we've learned since then!!!). We usually keep our key card in our pockets as much as possible so we don't lose them but I did get an Elite card tattoo on my forehead for bragging purposes. ....... Do you think that was too much? 😇

Just remember that a day at sea is always better than a day at work and ENJOY!!!

  16. One thing that affects the average age on the cruise that I haven't seen mentioned is the length and even "location" of the cruise. In general, the longer and more exotic the cruise the higher the average age. This is just due to the "cost" of the cruise (both money and time). That being said your cruise is a lot of what you make it. My husband and I started cruising on a 10 day Princess cruise and did find that the average age was higher but we still had a great time (we were 31 &33 at the time). We've been now sailing with them for 13 years (17 cruises) and find that the 7 day Caribbean cruises have the youngest average age (especially during holiday breaks). We are gamblers and like their casino (electronic poker table) and you can earn discounts off of future cruises. The "late" nightlife doesn't seem crazy active but to be honest we spend most of our late evening in the casino. Please note that I don't drink but my husband does so we aren't nightclub people. I think they now have an all inclusive drink package but all adults in the cabin have to take it. A co-worker of mine swears by Celebrity and they enjoy drinking :). They've been with Celebrity since they were in their 40s and rave about it. I believe that she said that alcohol is now included with their cruise fare but I cannot verify. They frequently get suites and love them. I've never been on Carnival but from what I understand if you want a young partying crowd that's probably the cruise line for you. Good luck but just remember. ... being at sea is better than being at work! !!!!!!
