  1. When I travel, I want a printed copy of a personalised travel Policy (with my name on it ) and a Policy Number with relevant telephone numbers on it - something my wife can show at the hospital reception desk in the US after I have been run over by a New York Taxi.

Can/do you get this when using Credit Card insurance??? Just wondering.

We used CC complimentary travel insurance for our last cruise in December and paid admin fee for pre-existing medical condition and was emailed the policy document with all our details on it including the accepted medical conditions.

  2. Interesting and varied information coming through re CC Complimentary Insurance. Some you only have to spend a nominated amount, while others, like our cover via Allianz, you have to pay the whole amount and are not covered until you have purchased the ticket. Some cover pre-existing medical conditions while others you have to pay an administration fee. Pays to look at the small print at all times and read the product information booklet from cover to cover, then talk to them.

  3. Unfortunately even having the flu vaccine doesn't protect from every variant of viral influenza. It has been reported that the effectiveness of the 2016 vaccine was about 60%.

The 2016 vaccine offered was either TIV or QIV, that is, one protects from 3 strains and the other 4 strains.

    The 2016 TIV protects from 3 Influenza A (HINI and H3N2 plus influenza B B/Brisbane 2008 type).

While the QIV protects from the above 3 plus B/Phuket 2013 type.

There are some nasty viruses out there.

  4. Of course not!

They do. I had Gastro on a Princess cruise 3 years ago. I was required to complete a very detailed report including questions on what and where I ate over the previous 2 days, including onshore (Fiji). As a nurse I was very impressed how they handled the very minor outbreak and their infection control routine.

  5. So sad to read this thread. Based on all the US hate I see here we won't be cruising Australia next winter (your summer) as planned. I don't want to go somewhere I'm not welcomed.

I think you may have misinterpreted the reason why I started this thread. There is definitely no "hate" intended only concern for travellers who wish to visit your country in an environment where there is rapid change. Australia has always welcomed tourists from all over the world with open arms and will continue to do so. Just as, hopefully, The Americas will.

  6. OK, so we have decided to go ahead with planned cruise to SP and Hawaiian Islands and back. Started to fill out ESTA Visa waiver form, but I think the heat got to me and had to stop. If anyone has recently filled out one for a cruise I have 2 questions:-

    1. How do you complete the US address and contact when you are cruising?

    2. Yes or No for "do you have a current or previous employer"? If you mark No (being retired) to me that indicates your have never worked, whereas Yes would indicate you are still working which is not correct in either case.

Why do public servants design such complicated forms? That's as far as I got when I gave up.

  7. I started this thread as we have a cruise booked for this August to South Pacific including Hawaiian Islands. What concerns me is the rapid rate he is signing exec orders and changes are occurring overnight. Our substantial deposit is not refundable after February 4. Hopefully the Visa waiver remains good for us folks downunder.

  8. I noticed from your list of past cruises you have sailed on the SS Canberra still my favourite ship by far. A character filled ship with superb service, excellent food excellent entertainment and shipboard activities. No need for Dodgem Cars, Ice Skating Rinks Flying Foxes and the like just the pure enjoyment of being at sea in style.

    Absolutely!

  9. Just received my latest Telstra Bill. We did a 7 day December cruise up the coast of Queensland from Brisbane. I was aware my mobile had roaming activated but was surprised to see a phone call I received and SMS messages I sent originated in Florida, USA! Cost was only $12 but a timely reminder once in international waters even though you are not technically leaving Australia roaming charges occur.

  10. As mentioned in a number of posts - have GP tick Regulation24 so repeats can be filled for your extended time out of Australia. Medical Summary from your GP which includes list of CURRENT medications. Alternative and using Reg24 why not carry Webster Packs, not sure if they would get approval OS as medications would not be in original containers, but they are sealed. Has anyone tried this method? These will certainly not take up as much room as loads of bottles and packets.

  11. Boarded on pre Christmas cruise recently and was talking to a terminal employee and from her observation over the years this how passengers board:-

25% of Px arrival is governed by how they travel to the city e.g. plane, train bus;

25% arrive according to their allocated time; :)

50% arrive when it suits them, usually early and head for the buffet.:p
