I'm back! So, today received an email from Burda and they are celebrating National Sewing Machine Day and they have two dress patterns available for free download.
https://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/button-down-tunic-dress-052018 and https://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/peek-a-book-neckline-dress-plus-size-052018
Do not know how long the promotion is on for. They are also offering 20% off their on-line videos / tutorials if you are interested

Good evening everyone. I just found out that there is another free sew-a-long with Burda Style Academy for swim suites if you are interested. Includes information for those of us that are round(ish) such as myself.
Have a great week,

Within the ship it will be normal room temperature (what ever that is) and on deck will depend on the local environment. Remember that Alaska is in a rain forest (not tropical) so yes you could have liquid sunshine or a heat wave [emoji851]. With living close to your departure port you will not have to worry about number of suitcases [emoji851]
Have a wonderful cruise, we love the area.

GinnyHoppa811, when are you cruising Alaska? We have cruised there twice at the end of the season. Experienced lots of heat and sunshine and the second time there was lots of precipitation. We could not get into Ketchikan as the weather made the entrance to the port impassable (my sister was cruising at the same time with another cruise line and was in that port the day before!)
I would suggest layers, and perhaps headband and mitts with a light fleece under a waterproof (Gortex type) jacket for when the cruise ship is visiting icebergs. Celebrity use to do Bailey’s in hot chocolate (souvenir mug extra) and I understand that HAL serves pea soup during iceberg visit

Did you know that there is a sew along blog with McCalls?
It may be the incentive I need to make/sew the dress I was going to do last June!

Or a simple embroidery down the side

We cruised with Celebrity around the British Isles August 2016 and had a fabulous time, meeting new people /friends. Love following your review as it brings back memories of visiting some of the ports. As well your tips for some accommodations pre and post cruise.

Just a heads up about the gratuities and select dining, they are no longer prepaid with the select dining option. Discovered that on our cruise earlier this summer and the OBC was debited each day the amount of the gratuity. Was told by customer relations that was the preference of the cruiseres. We now pre-pay our gratuities. We also give extra to those who have given us exceptional service.

Hi Mary. Thank you for your posting about your recent cruise. We are traveling that way next fall with Celebrity (so there are a few ports of call that will be different ) and you given us some ideas/suggestions for the ports of call that are common to both cruise lines
Have a great week,
Susan

Another option if visiting SOL is not required. We noticed while at the Ramada Plaza that a bus company offered 'shuttle ' service into NYC. I would suggest calling the hotel directly to enquire if this service is still available.

Good afternoon everyone. Sorry about the delay in responding to queries, having internet issues (this summer has been the worst for us) so not doing much cc updates etc.
With having issues, some difficulty with on line classes (and CE webinars for my work [emoji34]) what I did catch of the Burda course was interesting a tip I do remember is if you need to grade up a size or 2 add the difference between the size to the cutting line ie if the difference between the size 16 and 18 is 1/4 inch and you need a size 20, add 1/4 inch to that seam/cutting line
Now for least favourite sewing task- in no particular order button holes, zippers and hemming [emoji41]
In case you are wondering, I am at work grabbing lunch and wifi [emoji851]
Have a great week,
Sue

Good afternoon everyone. Don't know if this is allowed, if not delete as required. I was checking the Burdastyle.com for fun and discovered that they have a "free" sew along of a maxi dress. The pattern is included. This class is running until Sept 4th?
Watching the video and discovered that Coats makes a thread that has a bit of stretch to it! Also picked up some pattern grading tips.
Have a great week everyone,
Sue

Glad it worked out for you. It's not a fancy hotel, but IMO it's a solid 3* for EWR and considering the price point of the package, well worth considering.
I would recommend the package to anyone driving to the area. We had our 'wheels' to get to and from Liberty State Park ( again, thanks for tips about visiting Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty).
Very glad we have a reliable navigation in our vehicle, not sure I could tell my husband how to get from A to B without some assistance [emoji851]
Have a great day everyone,
Sur

Just checking in and thanking you all for information about staying and traveling in the cruise port area. We came down a couple of days early so that we could do some sight seeing and using the package for "Trinity Reservation" for parking and port shuttle. Used one of the hotel booking apps to reserve the room the nights not covered by 'Trinity'
Yes, the Ramada is a little bit tired looking, but as it is a place to lay our head down when we sleep, we are very pleased.
Again, thanks for the suggestions for accommodations and travel.

Good evening everyone. Have been off-line a bit due to rural living and internet service can be spotty on occasion. Like what everyone is working on. Have a great rest of the week, Sue

Capt. Kate leaves for vacation in July.
Thank you for that update. We were wondering when the captains would switch.

Will do a tracing of the pattern and check. Not going to rush through making the dress. Want to do a few seams a day

Good morning everyone! So, my mum helped take my measurements and dang it all, larger than what the pattern goes to
The dress is princess seamed (bad grammar, sorry) so I think I can increase the circumference easily, but I can't find any information to back up my memory. Tried searching "Threads" but not having any luck. Also not having any luck trying to find a review of the pattern. It could just be me and not thinking logically for the search engines [emoji851] so that's why I am posting here.
Have a great day everyone, Sue
ps the pattern may have been printed in 2003 as that is the copyright date on the envelope. Checked the website and the pattern number doesn't show.

Wear what you are comfortable with. For most of our cruises we have to fly to the cruise port, not taking extra suitcases for long formal gown (being 5'10" requires a lot of fabric) but DH wears a nice suit and I would wear cocktail dresses or dress pants with nice fancy tops. Celebrity has revamped the formal night to Chic night a few years ago and you will still see the gentlemen in tuxedos and some ladies in gorgeous gowns.
My normal day wear when not cruising is scrub top and pants, so I like dressing up for dinner in the evening
Ok, may not be my best pictures, but I think you get the general idea?
Have an amazing cruise,
Sue Mac

Yes, you would be correct about printing and tape the pieces together. I believe they have a video or tutorial about how to. It is very important to print the page with the test square first to make sure your settings are correct.
