Great review. Now I am even more excited to be sailing on her in October!
-
We booked the Pan Pacific through HAL prior to our Alaska cruise. I'm sorry, but I can't remember what the cost was, but I wanted to say we were very happy with our stay there.
A HAL rep met us as we got off the plane and after we picked up our luggage she put us in a cab (just the 3 of us) to the Pan Pacific. The hotel was perfect- it is literally right above the pier. The day of embarkation we tagged our bags, left them in our room and took the elevator down to the boarding area. The hotel looked after moving the bags to the ship. So easy!

Thanks so much for the photos. I can't wait to see it for myself!

I don't know if that would fit in the ships outlet anyway - the outlet is usually recessed in a circular depression if that makes sense. A standard plug would work.

We have a 1 foot long extension cord that fits in those recessed outlets. Then we can plug anything in to the end of that extension cord. Works great.

Sorry to tell you this but you cannot use a surge protector on a cruise ship. You can use a power strip without a surge protector.
I use a surge protector on cruise ships all the time, both on Princess and HAL. Never had a problem.

If you want easy, take a cab from the airport to the pier. I think we paid $35 for the cab. We were 3 people with a large suitcase and a carry on each.

I thought Erin looked beautiful last night. I loved her dress and her hair.
I was surprised who went home. I think she deserved to stay, and Doug Flutie would be who I would send home.
I didn't think much of Carrie Ann's dress, or Zendaya's either.

Several times we have changed our cabin shortly before sailing and we have always just paid the difference, no extra charge or fee. Each time we changed from an interior to a balcony.

Thanks all.daisy loo we are doing the 10 day southern carribean that it looks like you have done on the royal. Any don't miss excursions you did?
Honestly, nothing that was a must do. Usually, the first time we go to an island we book an excursion that takes us around so we see a lot of the island, kind of like an overview. This time on the Royal, we had been to those ports before, some of them a few times, so we didn't do much of anything. Sorry that wasn't more helpful.:o

Bon Voyage to all!! Take lots of photos and post them here so we can see her!

The Sanctuary is above these cabins. We never had an issue with any noise. My husband is a very light sleeper and we both slept great.
-
We had L110, right next to L114, and loved it. It was really nice being that close to the pools and the Horizon Court. We never had an issue with motion. They are considered obstructed balconies, but they are not obstructed, other than when you are looking forward you see the bridge wing. I would gladly stay in one of these cabins again. Enjoy!

The MDR might be the prettiest I've seen on a newbuild in many, many years.
It's flat-out beautiful. November 23 needs to hurry up.
I agree. Overall, everything I have seen of the Koningsdam looks beautiful. I can't wait to sail on her.

Thanks for this. I could waste lots of time working on this.:D

HI all!
I agree the right person went home! I was just hoping it wouldn't be Doug, who showed much improvement. It seems so often a person doesn't do well the 1st night & gets voted off when they really improved the next week. Also so often a person like Geraldo stays just because of their fan base.:(
Kerri ~ at least you have a chance of seeing the show if you have the time. I love how Carnival has better tv stations than other cruise lines!
Daisyloo ~ where are you headed for your land trip? It's nice to cruise but destination trips are great too.
I liked Erin's dress also & the colour of Carrie Ann's. I like how Erin interacts with the sports guys too.
I'll be away for Disney week & the following one but am glad to be home for their most memorable time week.
Have a nice day.
~ Jo ~ :)
We are going to Cayo Coco Cuba for a week in an all inclusive. We haven't done that in about 5 years (all our recent vacations have been cruises). So looking forward to it. What's extra nice is the flights are out of our local airport, so we can avoid the Toronto madness!

The right person went home in my opinion.
I agree that Mischa doesn't seem happy. I feel bad for her. I wonder if she has some anxiety issues.
Wanya is definitely a contender for the trophy.
I'm going to miss next week - going for a 1 week land based vacation. (can't believe my DH talked me into that rather than a cruise).

I know I have seen soy milk on HAL, and I am pretty sure I have seen almond as well.

There are no partitions to divide you from anyone else. If I remember correctly, your 2 chairs will have a brass plate on them saying "reserved for cabin # whatever". I think most people respect that.
We did see something funny once. A man took the chair pad off one of the reserved loungers to use on an unreserved chair, so that he had 2 pads on his chair. He must have had a bony backside! Anyway, the man who's chair he had taken it from came out of his Lanai cabin and told him off.

It's nice to see Len back. I missed him.
Geraldo was awful - he needs to be the first to go.
I thought Erin looked great.

Daisyloo, it sounds like you're talking about Captain ALBERT's blog. Silvertogold is asking about Captain JONATHAN's blog, currently on the World Cruise. I saw a couple of posts on the Holland America Blog from Captain Jonathan as well as a link to his own blog, but when I clicked the link I got the 403 error as well.
Roy
Oops!! Sorry, I misunderstood. :(

I noticed that no readers' comments have been posted since March 10 and now his page gives a 403 error note.
Has anyone else had a problem accessing this great blog?
I haven't noticed any problem accessing the blog. It seems okay to me. I am really enjoying reading about the progress as it nears completion.

I would agree- go with the covered balcony. The weather in Alaska can be very unpredictable. The covered balcony will protect you from the elements.

Thanks for posting that link. Great photos.

We have been on the Regal and Royal Princesses, both around 3500 passengers. We never felt crowded. They seemed well designed to handle that amount of people. We felt they had the best designed buffet of any ship we have been on. So if HAL has done the proper planning and design, we can hope the Koningsdam will be able to easily handle her passenger load.
