  1. You can take a taxi or you can use public transportation, depending when you disembark.

We used public transportation when we used self-debarkation around 8:15 am. We took the bus to the Norreport station and then the M2 Metro to the airport. We were checked in, through security and at our gate by 10:30 am.

Public transportation is a cheaper option than a taxi (DKK 24 pp vs. about DKK 250), but you probably don't want to try public transportation if you have more than a carry-on bag.

Thanks so much for that. YES we will have large bags as we are travelling for over 3 months so a taxi will be the go I think! I gather they will be at the dock and we will be at the airport in plenty of time by your estimations and experience. Thanks again as always a concern when you have a flight on the same day as we are embarking on another cruise that same day in Bergen.

  2. We have sailed on a number of Hurtigruten Norway trips and would recommend 1) Breakfast at the North Cape, 2) A Taste of Vesteralen, 3) The Atlantic Road. We have never done the Eagle Safari, but that gets high marks and usually sells out. If you enjoy walking, Trondheim can be done on your own; be sure to include a visit inside the Cathedral. Bodo is a small town and has a fine, small museum. It has been a few years since we were onboard and there are some fascinating newer excursions that I would love to try...the hiking ones, especially. Whatever you choose, you really can't go wrong. Enjoy!

Hi, thanks for the info on tours as we are going in July and am in the process of looking at tours. Very hard to know what ports can be done on your own as the tours can be expensive and there are a lot of them. We were thinking of the The North Cape (not with breakfast) are there any other differences other than breakfast? Appreciate your feedback.

    Thanks

  3. A hotel around Tivoli or Kongens Nytorv will place you near a station with direct access to the airport.

If you want to use the 25/27 bus out to your ship then its better to be located near the central station as you can get directly on a train to Østerport station from where both bus 25 and 27 departs from.

So search for a hotel in this area.

Scandic Copenhagen, Weber and Palace, The Square, Hotel Imperial, Nimb, Cabinn City, Absalon, Urban House, Radisson Blu Royal, Ascot, Hotel Alexandra etc etc etc.

Thanks so much for this info.

    Kind regards

    Sharon

  4. 1. We had the same itinerary as you--arrive at airport, 2 days in Copenhagen, cruise, depart from cruise ship. If you want a budget hotel choice, look at the Wakeup Borgergade (where we stayed) or the Bethel Hotel in the Kongens Nytorv area. From the airport, you just take the train to Kongens Nytorv and walk to your hotel. From your hotel to the airport, you take the 26 bus (which stops in several places around Kongens Nytorv) to Osterport and then take the 27 bus to Oceankaj. From the cruise port to the airport, you can take the special 25 cruise day bus to Norreport and the train to the airport. Of course, taxis are always an option, but using public transportation is cheap and easy, provided you don't have a ton of luggage.

    2. On debarkation day, we did self-debarkation and public transporation to get to the airport. We were off the ship around 8am and the bus left between 8:30 and 8:45 am. We were at the airport and through customs and immigration by 10:30 am. We sat around over an hour until our flight boarded. So, you should be able to make a 11:50 am flight if you do self-debarkation.

    3. As far as things to see and do in Copenhagen, I highly recommend Rick Steves' Northern European Cruise Ports (for all the ports you visit on a Baltic cruise) or Rick Steves' Scandanavia. Both books can be ordered from Amazon if your local bookstores don't carry them. Not only does he describe the various things to see and do in Copenhagen, he rates them as far as what's most worth seeing and what's less worth seeing. There are also self-guided walking tours for various parts of the city and for the museums and castles.

Fantastic info.... Just what I was looking for. I am assuming you can take a suitcase each on the bus?? Do you know how expensive the taxis are? I assume they are waiting at the cruise port when we disembark?

Do you have any suggestions as to what is a MUST SEE or do in Cooenhagen??

Thanks again for all your info.

    Kind regards

    Sharon

  5. Ok.... I have a number of questions...

We will be flying into Copenhagen from London 2 days before we board the Regal Princess for a Baltic cruise.

I would like advice on where I should look for accommodation bearing in mind that we are arriving at the airport and departing on a cruise ship.

Recommendations of what we should see and how we should spend our time in Copenhagen would be great.

On our return to Copenhagen from our cruise we need to get straight to the airport as we have a flight to Bergen around 11.50am. It is important that we don't miss our flight as we are boarding another ship for a Norwegian cruise on that same day. I have been assured that we have plenty of time but not sure of the logistics yet...

I would appreciate any help and advice as we have not been in the area before.

    Thank you

    Sharon (from Aus)

  7. As noted in my post right above this one, DH Dave and I took a day-trip to Kyoto from Osaka (where we stayed at the St. Regis for a week prior to our trans-Pacific cruise from Kobe to Vancouver).

We had a 7-day JR Pass for the first-class Green Car (well worth it!), so we took the subway (from the major station conveniently located in the same block as our Osaka hotel) to Shin-Osaka to get our reserved Green Car seats and board the bullet train to Kyoto, to join another couple from our roll call who'd arranged a day of private touring with a Tours By Locals guide. (BTW: These guides are not the free/volunteers; they are licensed independent contractors with this interesting Canadian company that offers tours world-wide. I'd not heard about them until our roll call friends booked this day-tour for the four of us. It's an interesting concept, as you get to pick your tours and your guides, but you pay the company in your local currency.)

Our Kyoto tour guide was excellent--and as our friends had already spent several days in Kyoto (and also visited a few years ago also)--AND DH Dave and I had been touring for nearly two weeks, we opted for enjoying a leisurely day with longer visits at fewer venues. ;)

We spend a lovely morning at Kyoto's Tenryu-ji Temple--enjoying the grounds, which were in full bloom on this bright and sunny day. Loved the "silent waterfall" (leaves) at the tranquil lake and the walkways and flowers and bamboo path. Then the five of us had a magnificent ZEN vegan multi-course lunch at the temple's Shigetsu. We each had our own little table with very short legs and matching chairs with very short legs. (I am total vegan, so it was a fabulous delicious treat for me!) After lunch, we took the trolley to Ryoan-ji Temple to tour the peaceful grounds and study the famous zen rock garden. Before returning to our Osaka hotel, we explored the stunning modern architecture of the Kyoto JR station (with soaring glass ceilings) and had drinks with our friends near the top with great city views. Then we hopped the bullet train for the short ride back to Osaka.

We chose Osaka as our base for our second week, because we had a local friend there with whom we spent two glorious days AND we'd planned several day-trips to other cities, including a full-day customized tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima (also using a Tours by Locals guide--Mie T., who was excellent) AND my husband wanted to try Kobe beef (now he is spoiled forever). Please feel free to ask me for any info about our Osaka stay (or our Tokyo stay or our cruise).

  9. We disembarked in Osaka last year. We had a wonderful tour guide with a very comfortable town car for 3 adults. It was so worth it -- he took us to all the major sites (and there are many) and explained the temple and the customs and meaning of what we were seeing. Perhaps the best was the little restaurants he took us to each day -- so good and very different from what we found in the hotel areas. Each of our two nights on land he returned us to our hotel in Kyoto. He was very careful to drive us to where we needed to be so that the walk was easier on me -- older heavier lady with bad feet. If your budget will handle the cost at all the private guide is a wonderful investment to see this significant area that is spread out! Understand that in Japan it is difficult to get a guide's license requiring multiple exams in history culture and languages plus a fee. (That is why so many "free language guides -- trying to get experience credit and language experience for guide's license). To transport guests in car must have chauffer's license and special insurance and tags. All of this does drive the cost up for tourist guides but all are of high quality! As far as railroads -- I suppose if you were good at train identification and and logistics the train is easy but I for one found it hard! I didn't know how to go up the stairs to the correct train track and I did not know how to line up to get on the train and I didn't know how to buy the correct ticket and in Japanese currency. Our guide took us to the train station and helped us buy the tickets for the next day and then walked us through the steps of getting to the right track. It was really interesting. In Tokyo train station a young girl volunteered to help us get through the train station and to the taxi to go to the hotel. English signs but station is huge and many doors and many streets some of which were correct to get taxi to hotel and some pedestrian only. I LOVED IT but guides make especially the first day in country so much better. Let me know if you want the email address for guides in Tokyo and Kyoto/Osaka.

  10. If anyone is interested my blog for this trip is at

    http://www.circlepacific2016.blogspot.com

I hope the link works if not copy and paste into browser.

I will add a couple of more entries over the next week as time permits.

We had a great cruise... Good ports, excellent weather, flat seas and fantastic onboard friends that really made our trip very enjoyable.

Sorry there were not more posts while we were on board but the Internet was very unreliable and sometimes nonexistent on the ship and was hard to find free internet on shore when on an organised tour all day!! Now starting to think of where we go next......

    Happy cruising

  11. Have you arranged the ceremony through P&O? You usually choose a package which includes a photographer. The day is usually a sea day and can be changed by the Captain once on board. Ours was due to a last minute change in itinerary which meant the day that it was supposed to be was changed to a port day. We chose the smallest wedding package as there was just the 2 of us. It included a wedding planner on board that coordinated everything. You also have to give a minimum amount of notice and put an advert in a paper in Bermuda. I suppose all this depends if you want it to be legal.

  12. I am planning on organizing a slot pull on my upcoming cruise. Do you contact Princess before the cruise or do you set up the slot pull once you are on board? If you set it up prior to the cruise what number do you call. I have joined slot pulls on previous cruises but never organized one.

    Hi,

We just got off the Sea Princess yesterday and we had a slot pull every Friday at 4pm. It was anointed in our CC get togethers and reminders at our lunches. We typically had between 30 to 40 people. We all gave the organiser $10 and he put it on his card for use in the machine. We played the maximum lines on the $1 machine (which was 5). We then took it in turn to have 2 goes each (2 x $5 = $10). When everyone had had their turn we then cashed out what was left and divided between us. The casino staff and manager were always very helpful in supplying the correct notes to divvy up our return.

It was a lot of fun and took about 30 mins.

  13. Been reading on another social website that Princess has been busy sending out move over requests for sector from NY....

Full refund, free cruise or cruises up to 50 days, free upgrade and $600 PP for lost airfares!!

Everyone is saying you should take it ... you should take it... but I don't think any of them have ever organised such a big trip... it is hard to give up all those plans and so close to your start date.

That sounds very tempting.... Would be interested if we didn't have MP booked! Most of the ports after NY we have done or will be doing again over the next 2 years.

  14. The above i can vouch for as we live in Adelaide, anything you want to know we'll help. The shuttle would take around 30 to 40 minutes to the Mall.

    Stevo

We are joining a cruise in Adelaid at the end of March. As we need to fly to Adelaide from Sydney can you advise where would be the best place to get accommodation the night before we board. We need to get to Berth 2, Outer Harbour.

    Thank you

  15. The area immediately forward of R312 has officers' cabins, then the bridge. Definitely off-limits to passengers. The closest forward viewing decks would be on either deck 11 or deck 14.

The door in that location on the Sea Princess has a 'soft and slow' closing mechanism so there wouldn't be much noise, but I'm not sure if the same applies on the Sun Princess. If you feel any noise would be a problem, maybe you could see if there is a cabin a little bit further back or even in the middle (R318 etc.).

Thanks Aus Traveller..... Amazingly ALL inside cabins are sold out and waitlisted for a cruise that does not leave till mid 2016!!! We have requested to change cabins but we will wait and see... I am sure I would cope anyway just not ideal.

  16. We have been in a few cabins on Riviera, on Sun, Sea & Dawn, both balcony and insides. Its our favourite deck. We love the quick access to pools, gym, one floor down from buffet. We honestly haven't ever been disturbed by noise from the deck above, or the passage way.

Thanks Cbtours..... I can see there could be a lot of advantages and couldn't really see that there would be much noise from the buffet above... My main concern is the cabin is literally right next door to the door into the officer's cabins and the Bridge... Just worried that the door might bang closed when accessed. I am a very light sleeper!! One of the reasons why we like an inside cabin.

  17. Haven't been in the cabin but the area forward of there that looks like it goes forward to an outside deck is the area to the bridge and the space before it are Officer cabins. I did the Ultimate Ships tour on the Dawn so assume it's identical.

Thanks for that... I think you are correct. Now wondering if that doorway access will be noisy with people coming and going??

Anyone been under the buffet before??

    Thanks for any help.

  18. Looking for any feedback on this cabin. We usually have aft cabins and this is at the very front. Was wondering if any negatives especially the noise of the door to gain access to the deck at the front of the ship as this is right next door to this cabin. Can see that it could be an advantage for quick access to the outside. Would appreciate any feedback as we potentially are looking at 75 nights in this cabin....

  19. Peru is great. I suggest that you take a private tour with Monica tours.

    http://www.monicatoursperu.com

Also, consider going to the Pachacamac Temple Ruins as well as the sites in central Lima.

Hi, we are looking at doing a private tour to Machu Picchu on our cruise next year. What has been your experience with Monica Tours? I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you.... I can supply an email address if that is better.

    Regards Sharon
