  1. It's already happened per the Princess FAQ's posted yesterday:

How could this have happened, and why would your employees do this?

We believe these actions were taken to save time and that those involved thought they were saving the company money, but since they violated our policies and the law it was not savings we incentivized, directed, nor approved.
The senior officers involved have been fired
    .

Their entire statement is posted here: http://www.princess.com/news/notices_and_advisories/cbresponse/

Hummmm... I wonder how senior the officers who were fired were. Captains? Chief engineers?

  2. Looking at booking a January cruise on the Regal Princess. Any aversion to mini suites on Riviera deck 14-mind forward location? Looks like this is the only deck we can choose a mini suite on at this point, just would like to make sure there is not a reason these are left in this location. Obstructed balcony, no privacy, etc?? Can't seem to find anything really. Cruise would be just my husband and myself, no kids or extra roommates :)

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Just left a mini on Regal deck 12 midship. With the abscess of a central stair case, I think forward or aft is preferable to mid-ship. BTW- Regal very nice. You will enjoy.

  3. A few years ago I had a life threatening illness aboard a princess ship. The dr was from South Africa ( where apparently many princess Drs are from). I received excellent care from the dr and his staff. Not so good- Mexican hospital- got medivaced back to the states ASAP. So, not to worry if princess level medical care is on HAL.

  4. Returning to RCCL after several year ( hey, they left us west coasters stranded) for the Sept. 26 coastal on the Jewel. We have reserved MTD at 8:30 for the nights we are not in the speciality restaurants. How do we get a 2 seater in the MDR? Any way to reserve in advance? Thanks

  5. Correct. Medicare does not pay for anything once you set foot on the ship no matter where it's sailing unless you are in a US port at a US medical facility. I have really good coverage with Blue Shield in addition to Medicare as well as MedJet Assist.

I am investigating the world of MedJet insurance. The medivac price from Mexico to San Diego was 25k- amazingly my insurance paid 100 per cent. Now recently turned 65 and on medicare- so it's a different world.

  6. The medical care on princess is very good. I speak from experience . On the thanksgiving cruise on the Sapphire, I was treated for a life threatening case of acute pancretitis . The dr. And nursing staff were first rate.

The bill came to $3000 for 2 days in the medical center with 24 hour a day care. Very reasonable- for hospitals- I was to learn. I was put ashore in Mexico and sent to the local hospital. NOT so good. After a half day in emergency room , a $7000 bill....I got the impression I was not going to be released To the medivac jet waiting until the bill was paid.

Ultimately, my private insurance reimbursed me for almost everything . Moral of the story - don't be afraid to travel but make sure you are well insured for out of country illness. My understanding is that medicare does not cover out country expenses.

  7. No, I am not annoyed by the lack of news. But, I do wonder why more information has not been released.

In the lead-up to the introduction of Royal Princess, Princess was making/posting videos about the ship and its features. (They failed to mention the size of the verandas and an elevator/stairwell that should have been part of the plans and wasn't.) Maybe HAL is making certain that its newbuild will not suffer from important items that Princess seemed to have overlooked.

The hype by Princess prior to launch of the Royal was non-stop. The reviews of the Royal are somewhat mixed. Perhaps, it was over hyped and HAL is trying to avoid that mistake.

  8. I am recovering from acute pancreatitis ( removed from ship in Mexico, airvac back to the U.S- but thats another story) and am on a low fat no white starch diet. Does anyone know if you can get whole wheat (bread, rolls and pasta) on board? Thanks for any help.
