  1. All my photos from the Seabourn Quest trip to Antarctica and South Georgia in Dec 17-Jan 18 are now up on Flickr. 155 photos in all. For those interested here is a link -

I hope you like them. If you haven't done this trip then maybe these little memories might encourage you to do it yourself.

Like them? We love them!! Great photography and such a wonderful memory of an absolutely amazing trip. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Respectfully I observed Captain Larsen's final departure from Quest today at approximately 11:30 am. Tendor#1 had a tarp attached to its roof with a large heart and words of love for Captain Larsen. A number of personnel joined Captain Larsen on the tender and as it pulled slowly away the ship's horn gave 3 long, mournful blasts. Then the most beautiful song was played in all of the public areas as the tender slowly sailed to shore. Jan had made an announcement about what was going to happen and the outside deck was packed with crew and passengers as we said a sad farewell to a special man. It was a very beautiful and heartbreaking experience

Thank you for sharing. Hard to read through my tears. What a fitting tribute to a marvelous individual! It was our sincere privilege and honor to have met him and sailed with him only weeks ago.

I have no words to describe my sadness and disbelief. He was the kindest, most competent Captain I have ever sailed with. He was highly respected, by crew and passengers. Rest in Peace dear Captain Larsen. It was my sincere pleasure to have known you and have sailed with you. I will not forget you.

  4. Right. But this call was for deck 9. Repeated several times. Cabin 1901. Bridge is deck 9 in same location as 01 cabins

Pretty sure it's an officer's cabin on the bridge. We were on 9th floor and know where 901 is. Please please keep us posted. This makes me sad, whatever it is.

  5. We have left Antarctica. Landings every day. Great weather.

Unfortunately just heard a bright star warning indicating serious medical emergency. Very scary as we are not near civilization

I'm so sorry! We had a "bright star" warning during our December/January Holiday cruise while still docked in Ushuaia. Unfortunately we lost a very young crew member. We were all extremely sad! I'm hoping for the best!!

  6. Thanks. We don't generally do any calls when we are on-board so we have never used this 'benefit'. But I will have a couple of business situations which might need 5-10 minute calls to the UK.

Get Wi-Fi and call free over Wi-Fi! ATT is free over Wi-Fi so it WhatsApp!

  7. I’m so pleased for you and hope you get many more over the next few days. Did all groups manage to land?

Thank you! Yes everybody made it this afternoon. We came back on the ship and hot mulled wine was waiting for us at the Patio bar. Indian buffet tonight in the Colonnade and Liars Club in the grand salon. Should be a great finish to a spectacular day!

  8. LadyVol1 I’ve been avidly reading your posts throughout the day. I really hope you got the landing and that you enjoyed it. Now I’ve bagged Antarctica I really really must travel to South Georgia! I wish seabourn would include South Georgia and the Falklands throughout the season, as Christmas cruises aren’t an option for us due to work commitments.

Our 3:45 pm landing was just unbelievable and indescribable. The expedition team worked very hard - the afternoon landing spot was a first for Seabourn and the entire expedition team.

  9. 2:10 PM. Another shipwide announcement for the rest of the purple group to go ashore now and the blue group will go next at 3:45. So blue was originally scheduled for 10, then 11 and then it was going to be a zodiac tour at 1. Then that was cancelled and the ship moved to a totally different place and now we are scheduled for a 3:45 landing. We’re keeping our fingers crossed! The first group and 1/2 that went out at the original site said it was amazing.

We are not going to the same spot! The people on the morning landings were very lucky. We will not experience their amazing views.

    But I understand: safety first!

  10. Out of curiosity, if you didn't like the table you were given in the Colonnade and given that there were very few people dining there, why did you not ask for a different table?

You can choose any table you like. Just tell them. We came back after 9:15 pm and they kept the Colonnade open for over 150 of us on tours. We sat outside and it was magical. The staff rallied to get us drinks and dinner and the service and food was great! We have zero complaints!

  11. Regarding twos at a four table - quite often when we have requested a two we have been given a four, if the dining room is not too full, and told we could have it to ourselves. This is no doubt what happened at the fours for two near you at dinner.

I believe in previous seasons there have been two Captains on board, a 'regular' Captain and and an 'ice' Captain. This does not seem to be the case now. And I think your Captain has been the 'ice' Captain previously?

I’m on board now and there is an additional “ice” captain. He was introduced to us together with all senior officers at welcome party.

On a different note: everything is fabulous so far!

  12. We are also on the Holiday cruise and some time ago I booked a decent hotel in Valparaiso. After I received Seabourn's email today, I quickly checked for hotels in San Antonio and there are just no good hotels there. Closest hotel with 4 stars is 30 miles away. Valparaiso is 39 miles from San Antonio. I don't want to stay in Santiago, as I have been there before at the Ritz (lovely) and Vina del Mar at the Sheraton (nice). I guess, if guests have pre-booked and pre-paid their hotel in Valparaiso or Vina del Mar, just keep it and don't change it as there is nothing good close to San Antonio.

  13. We are on the Quest as well all the way to Monaco. Food and service have been great as usual! We did TK in Colonnade. It was ribs night. I give it a 5 out of 10. Staff is very cute about it and is trying to be positive about the "sharing" and "selling" the TK deal.

Dinner in main dining room that was not TK was fabulous (no waiting and hot). We have no complaints except the smoking. There is a large group of smokers and the smell is definitely noticeable. We sat on our 8th floor veranda and had to go inside. We voiced our complaints and its "duly noted".

Other than that, the Amazon is amazing.

Nelson is working the sky bar while we are having caviar; life is good! More to follow!

  14. Hi

We are booked on the 15th December cruise from FL to LA. Arriving in LA on 4th January. I need to book our flight back to FL. There is a 2pm flight from LAX but I am concerned if we would have the time to disembark, pick up our bags and then get to the airport.

Can you please advise? What time do you usually disembark? Is this reliable? Does anyone know how long it would take to get from the cruise terminal to the airport?

    Thanks

We did this same itinerary. Left the ship at 9. Customs was a breeze. We took the Seabourn bus to the airport, which left (if I remember well) at 9:45. We were at LAX in less than 45 minutes. You will have plenty of time!

  15. Definitely NOT in Chili. I had taken one apple from the lounge in DC and forgot about it. Upon entry in Chili airport I was fined $200.

Because of my Oscar performance with crying and big tears - I walked away with a warning. Chili wont allow anything, nuts, fruits, food from abroad!

  16. Hi All

We are taking the 15th December cruise from FL to LA via the Panama Canal. We would love to hear any advice from anyone who has taken the same/similar cruise before.

In particular, any excursions that are either unmissable or to be avoided?

Any tips on making the most of the experience?

We are both foodies which is one reason for our selecting Seabourn. I hope we won't be disappointed. This is the first time my wife has taken a cruise and only my 3rd, both time previously with Celebrity.

    Thanks in advance.

We did this cruise. It was fabulous. I will go back to my itinerary and will give you my experiences on the excursions later. In the meantime go to Seabourn's forum and search "able seaman" and check out the youtube video he made of this particular cruise. (or check it out on youtube - search Seabourn - Henry)

The video is awesome and reflects the trip 100%. You will have an awesome time!

  17. For thoses with inquiring minds. Still a big deal on board. A woman jumped from their room on the tenth floor, starboard side. It was a couple that just ordered a drink to their room and right after she jumped, husband starting screaming out of the room to the observation lounge. Ship spotted her and placed flares out. They lost sight of her while turning around.

    This update breaks my heart!
