  1. Hi all, this 2 port thing is a little confusing to me.  I'm looking at a cruise sponsored excursion and it says "Your final stop in the bustling capital city of Fira lets you snap some memorable photos before the journey back to Athinios port."  Is that the newer port where the tour buses go?  So we won't be needing the cable car back down to old port to tender?

Nobody has pre-existing conditions? Not even any family members not traveling with you should they get sick or worse and you need to cancel?  See this page for help and/or definition Get the Best Trip Insurance Details, Advice (tripinsurancestore.com)

We always purchase insurance from Steve within a couple of day of initial deposit. We put the lowest amount of trip cost of $500 just to get the wheels rolling. Then, as time goes buy we call Steve and increase as needed. I also make a spreadsheet for my own records with date of purchase, to whom, how much, is it refundable, which credit card did I use, and room for a note regarding the purchase. This way, I have a complete record if I need to file a claim. I know which CC I used and filter the account for that statement showing the purchase.

Thanks for the reference!  Honestly didn't' think about non-traveling family members getting sick.  Granted I have a pretty small family so there's only a handful of ppl I'd cancel a vacation for haha. Will check out the webpage.  Thanks!

  3. Hello! Booked a Greece/Italy cruise for August 2024 for 5 people (husband, myself, 2 kids, and my mother) with RCL. Haven't purchased flights yet. We're looking to purchase travel insurance for two reasons. 1 - recoup some cost in case we have to cancel (i.e. sickness, but we're all relatively healthy, no pre-existing conditions), as it's not a cheap vacation. 2 - in case of medical/evacuation needs during cruise.

My question is, when should we purchase the insurance? I'm shopping plans now but it ask how much the trip costs, which I don't know yet since I haven't made all the purchases (flights, hotel, excursions, etc). Should I purchase it now or after final payment? Final payment is April 2024.  and RCL refunds certain amounts depending how many days is cruise.  But also want to make sure flights will be covered as well if we have to cancel last minute.

    Thank you!

Didnt you post this earlier. You cannot name a TA.

If you book direct, I think I've read you only have 30 days to transfer to the TA of your choice which cannot be  named here.

Ah, that's why I couldn't find my post anymore.  Forgot I can't name the TA, it's been a few years since we cruised and been on the boards and rusty at it!

    Thanks for the response!

If you booked this in April 2023 you can no longer transfer it to a TA as that has to be done in 30 days.

Also, unless you picked the ship and date while you were on board you only have 60 days to choose the ship and sail date or you do not get the extra OBC for booking on board

Yeah, I understand I don't get the OBC.  At this point I'm just trying to see how I can not lose the $200 deposit.  The deposit isn't attached to a specific cruise yet, so does April 2023 still count as the date to count 30 days from to transfer to TA?

  6. Hello,

I put deposit down onboard my last cruise (april 2023) for the NextCruise thing.  Don't even know why I did it since we didn't know when we were cruising again so I won't even get the OBC.  My question is, if I book with Royal so I don't lose the $200 NextCruise deposit, can I transfer it over to a TA afterwards, specifically Costco and still get the shop cards from them?  We're looking at a August 2024 cruise next.

    Thanks.

  7. Just to report back, we found taxi's by where the surfboards were.  One thing was we didn't know what cabo taxis looked like!  We had to google real quick and found "white vans with Taxi printed".  We asked for price befoore getting in.  I believe it was $15USD there and $12 on the way back.  We just asked the staff at the Sand Bar to help us call a cab.  Super easy and we had a great time! Thanks for everyone's tips/help!

  8. Just off the Navigator so I know it’s not the Oasis info you want, but hopefully it’ll give you an idea.

    1) No reservations, it was first come first serve.

    2) See above

    3) See above above

    4) We were told to drop off within the first half hour of each session and shouldn’t have trouble, which we didn’t.

    5) Babies and tots, 3-5, 6-8, 9-11.

Sessions were mostly 9-12, 2-5pm, 7-10pm, some days you could sign them up for lunch and dinner time. For lunch at 12pm, sign up by 11. For dinner at 6pm, sign up by 4:30.

  9. Hi everyone,

We're returning to cruising after being busy having kids and living through a pandemic for a few years haha 😂 I was always one of those mad pre-planners, but now life with kids and working full time, I dropped the ball on a lot of things.

    1. We're 3 points away from Platinum, does anything happen during the cruise, or we're just gold until next cruise?

    2. For things like the ice-skating show, do we have to get tickets from somewhere on boarding day, or just the day of?

    3. Missed all the pre-cruise booking, we're sailing within 48 hours.  Am I just SOL now and have to pay full price for things like photo package and wifi package?

    4. Adventure Ocean - first time utilizing this service. Do we have to pre-book or pre-register the kids?  Should we stop by on boarding day to figure things out?

Thank you everyone, can't wait to get back out there!!

We’re going to the Sand Bar next month during our stop in Cabo. One post from January 2022 indicated they paid $14 going and $12 returning.           And, as Ashland indicated, everyone seems to say US currency is fine.  We actually just changed our massage reservation from 10am to 11am. We dock at 8am and tender. Could find little info on how long the process would take plus the taxi to the Sand Bar.

Good idea.  I changed my 1400 reservation to 1500.  Ship arrives at 12:30PM.  That should be good right?

  11. Hello.  I have tried searching for info but keep finding info for water taxi's mostly.  We are tendering to Cabo Port on Navigator of the Seas next week.  I have an 8 and 4 year old with me, so don't want to do water taxi to Medano Beach/Sand Bar.  Where will we find land taxi to take us there?  And how much should I expect to be paying?  Peso or USD?  It's been years since we've cruised and first time with 2 kids, so I'm a little rusty.  Thanks everyone!

I know it's been a year now ... but do you remember who you booked it with? Did you get it for the $20/hr or did you keep the $150 rate they initially quoted you? Thanks. 🙂

I found "City Tours Pulmonia", they have a page on Facebook.  I booked them for our cruise in a few weeks. $150/6 hours

We did.  I missed the tour, death in the family, but my wife and kids did it and LOVED the experience.

Sorry for your loss.  But thank you for sharing that your wife and kids loved the tour.

I just don't like haggling over price, and having uncertainty when I'm standing there with everyone.

Found one guy on FB  $150 per pulomina for a 6 hour day.  city tour, beach time, and stop for lunch.

Have no idea if that's expensive or not.

Didi you end up using a pulmonia?  Was thinking of doing the same with the kids, riding around town for some photo ops, little tour, lunch.  Any tips/advice?  Thanks!

  15. Hello, piggybacking on this...we'll be with a 4 and 8 year old.  Where do land taxi's drop you off at if you tell them Medano beach?  And is it pretty easy to grab a taxi back from that area?  We were thinking of hanging out in front of Cascadas Beach Grill (but happy to take advice from other experienced cruisers).

The last time we did Mexican Riviera was like 13 years ago!

  16. I have cricket which runs on AT&T towers. I had reception in skagway and juneau this week while docked. It was great when my balcony door was opened. Noticeably slower when it was closed.

I like using these prepaid plans because I don’t have to worry about roaming. My phone just wouldn’t work (in terms of connection) when I’m out of my service area :) But I have the plan that included use in Canada and Mexico.

I had been a long time AT&T customer but felt I was just paying too much and coworker finally convinced me to switch.

  17. We just sailed out of Vancouver to Alaska. From getting out of taxi at port to actually setting foot on the ship took about 1.5 hours. We arrived to the port at about 1PM. It was a 15-20min line to check in, but the rest of the wait was going through US customs... we were all US citizens except for one person, and she took maybe 10-15 min longer than the rest of us.

Return was fast, but we disembarked at 7:45AM and walked our own luggage off. We were in a taxi by 8AM. Filled out the Canadian customs form in advance, passports in hand, handed it one of 3 officers. And off we went!

  18. 3220x2687 was the resolution of one of our family portraits. We took advantage of the package and took pics daily. As a group, or just one or 2 of us. We ended up with about 80 pics for the week! Also I suggest buying it pre-cruise, it’s $50 less than getting it once you’re on the ship.

  19. So we are US citizens, sailing to Alaska out of Vancouver. We bought smoked salmon (the packaged non-refrigerated kind) from Alaska. Obviously, we have to go thru Canada Customs when we return to Vancouver. Then US customs when we go back to our home city. How do we declare that? Do we check “yes” for having fish? Would that mean they’ll check my luggage?

Any insights would be great. Thanks!
