  1. Requested our refund May 7.  Received our refund June 29, well within 90 days. We also got our latitudes points even though the cruise was canceled.  We received 28 points for a 14-day cruise due to double points promo.  Completely acceptable considering the circumstances.  This is uncharted territory for everyone.

Ok so I got my airline and hotel money in less than 30 days. But nothing from Norwegian. Has anyone got any money back from the cruise line for this cruise or any other cruise from Norwegian?

We were on the May 16 cruise on the Jade and we received an email yesterday stating our refund was processing.

As soon you book your trip, all passengers are assigned a Latitudes account.  He will have to create a MyNCL account to see the credits.

Yep.  Makes sense.  If I was going with a someone other than my hubby, they would want their credit. Lol!  Can't give it all to me. 😄 😄

  4. We booked our flight and hotel pre-cruise through Orbitz.  Didn't get an email notification, so I went to Orbitz and logged in and saw it was canceled.  I did the "chat online" option to ask about a refund and was only on hold for about 3 mins.  Got refunds on the way for both hotel and flight even though the hotel was nonrefundable at time of booking.  I was done and received refund confirmation via email all in about 10 mins.  The refund will take UP TO 30 days to show up on our card.  Very easy.

Lol i never get controversial on here but some people are so mean. no matter how long she takes to share the story, shes still sharing it. ITS HER STORY. you guys can flame me all you want but in all seriousness is this board all your life really is? Lol. sorry about that. were all here to learn more about cruises were going on but people really wonder why people that are new to these boards dont want to post.

Couldn't agree more!  I hope she finishes as well.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of "trolls" who have nothing better to do than hang out in forums and "troll" posts and make derogatory comments to make themselves feel better.  All forums have them. We can only hope we never meet those people on a cruise :)

Again, if you don't like a topic, move on!

For our 1st cruise, we'll be leaving from Galveston (Carnival) in December or January.  Looking for something similar to the pure white sands & clear water of the FL Gulf coast. Which of the following ports would you recommend?

Cozumel, Montego Bay, Grand Caymen, Ocho Rios, Mahogany Bay, Belize, Costa Maya? Appreciate any & all help.  Thx.

Based off your list, that would be Grand Cayman, hands down.  7-Mile Beach is best.  Rum Point is also nice but much smaller (and quieter), and you would need a car to take you there.  It's a good 45-minute drive away. We vacation in Cayman a lot.  Jamaica has nice beaches as well.  Cozumel is definitely not known for beaches, nor is Costa Maya.  They have been having problems with sargassum seaweed lately all along the Yucatan.  It ebbs and flows, however.  Jamaica also has nice beaches, but I haven't been there in years.

Avoid the cruise passenger crowd and grab a taxi from the port to 7-mile beach.  It is literally minutes away just up the main road.  Don't waste your money on an excursion.  Taxis are plentiful.  The southern end of the beach where it starts is just outside of town and very close to the cruise pier.  A person could actually walk there but time is precious on a cruise. The nicest part is the northern part of the beach.  Also, the southern end has more shells/iron shore/coral in the sand and it hurts the feet.  We like to go to Cemetery Beach for snorkeling.  There is excellent snorkeling just off to the right and out about 50 yards or so as you look at the water.  There is a public beach access path.  right beside the cemetery on the water side.

When finished snorkeling head south on the beach to one of the hotels or Calico Jack's (great beach bar) and grab a taxi back.  Although, I think cruise ships now have excursions to Calico Jack's beach bar :(  so it might be crowded.  Once nice thing about 7-mile Beach is you can just keep walking to where its not busy.  You will be able to see your ship from the beach.  Very safe there as well.  No problems walking anywhere.

    So that's just my 2 cents :))

We're new to cruising; first cruise will be on the Mariner this August.  We're booked in a suite, but it seems like we could have booked a balcony and purchased The Key and saved quite a bit of money and gotten some better benefits.  As best I can tell, the only thing a suite gives you that the Key doesn't (besides a bigger cabin) is the suite lounge and a more expansive room service menu.

But if we were in a balcony cabin and purchase the Key, we still get priority access on and off the ship and VIP seating at the shows, plus we'd also get lunch at Chops on the first day, internet and special access to Flowrider?

I'm wondering if we should change our reservation and book a balcony cabin instead.  Any thoughts on that from those of you with some cruising experience?  Since deposits for suite cabins are non-refundable, can you downshift without losing your deposit?

Yes, you will get those benefits, plus internet and a couple others.

We downgraded from a Grand Suite to a balcony when we saw The Key for that very reason.  Saved almost 4K on a 12-day cruise and still have most suite perks, plus some perks not offered in a suite. (On Brilliance).   We did not lose our deposit.  It stays with the reservation.  (Brilliance doesn't have priority seating at the pool like some other ships).

  8. I compared a 12-night Baltic cruise at 9K for a GS to a balcony for 5K for 2 people.  For some reason the Brilliance doesn't have all the suite perks as other ships unfortunately.  No reserved pool spots and no Coastal Kitchen.  We downgraded to the balcony from a GS.  Again, it depends on the ship.  They vary substantially.

No they don't get the reserved lounge chairs around the pool or access to the suite/concierge lounge

It depends on the ship.  There is no reserved seating for suite guests at the pool on the Brilliance of the Seas.  The concierge lounge is the only perk not included with The Key on the Brilliance.  Not worth a 4-5K price differential for a lounge.

  10. This doesn't seem too bad of a deal, actually.  These are great perks.

It is 19.99 on our 12-day cruise, so around $480 for 2.  If you get suite perks, plus embarkation lunch at Chops (which is not offered to Suite guests on BOS), it is a lot cheaper than booking a suite by thousands of dollars.  We originally booked a Grand Suite on the Brilliance and they really aren't that great.  There is no lunch in a separate restaurant on BOS.  Only designated seating after you get your food in Windjammer.  We decided to change our reservation to a balcony and purchase The Key.

I also like the idea of designated seating for the shows so we don't have to rush dinner to get a decent seat.  Priority disembarkation at ports is also a nice plus.

We would rather pay The Key price with a balcony room and not have to pay 9K or more for a suite to get the perks in a room that is only marginally larger than a balcony.  If this were NCL, it would be a different story.  Their suites and perks are far superior than RCL.

I'm not sure I would do it for more than 2 people, though.

  11. I think it just depends on the price and length of sailing, plus how many sea days. on our next cruise we have 4 sea days, but at the currant pricing of $70 a day, for 10 nights it isn't worth it fir us at this point. We drink water 90% of the time and we are fine with tap water. Dh may have 4-5 drinks on a sea day but I cant remember the last time I had more than two. $1400 is a lot for drinks. We will reevaluate if there is a decent enough sale but otherwise we will skip it.

Wow! $70 a day. That is crazy! Ours was on sale from $55 to $48. Thought that was doable. I doubt we would have paid the $55, though. We were waffling on this price. Our total--which includes the tip--ended up being $670 each for 13 nights--4 sea days. I've had higher bar/restaurant tabs than that after a full vacation.

Yes, number of sea days is definitely a factor, I think. We have cruise credit, so that will go towards it also since we won't pay to eat on a cruise. To me it's not worth it to pay for the specialty restaurants. Usually our only expenses on cruises are beverages.

So lots of factors to ponder for sure for anyone trying to decide. Everyone is different and just because it's not worth it to some, doesn't mean it's not worth it to everyone else. Plus it's vacation! Who wants to worry about a budget;p?;p;p Good grief. Enjoy! ;p;p; )

  12. We went with the drink package after waffling back and forth. We are not Diamond. This is our first RC cruise.

The drink package was on sale for $48 a day for our 13-day cruise. It actually is 4 sea days, not 3 as I said in my prior post, so I think it will be worth it. We are not ones to wait for a happy hour to get free drinks in our suite lounge or join the masses for a Diamond member free-for-all.

I like good coffee, not buffet coffee. I will probably have 2 of those a day from the specialty coffee place, plus a mimosa with breakfast many days, wine with dinner, and maybe a nightcap. We will also drink a lot of water during the day and probably a soda here and there. Hubby drinks mixed drinks and scotch. That would put us well over $48 a day per person.

The beverage package isn't necessarily all about the alcohol. It is also soda, bottled water, juices, and good coffee. I love good coffee. :D With 4 sea days, I am sure we will be socializing a lot with others, so I expect we will surpass $48 a day no problem.

  13. I've been going back and forth on purchasing the beverage package. It is on sale for $48/day right now. We are on a 13-day cruise (3 sea days). When I added it to our "Cart" to see the grand total, it was over $1300. I'm not sure we would even spend that much without the package. I'm torn. :/
