Since this was the day before the Super Bowl, the crowd there has nothing to do with that event unless people were fleeing town to avoid it.

But imagine what it would be like the day after the Super Bowl.

Of course, that’s true.  It just seemed to be extraordinarily busy and it was Super Bowl weekend.  I can’t imagine what that airport would have been like the day after the game since the day before the big game was chaos.

Those people in the picture are VERY lucky. We sat for hours in the outer lobby where there are no chairs or facilities. People were on the floor, on the planters, and leaning against walls.  There were just as many people but they were much less comfortable.

Oh yes, we experienced that, too.  That picture I took was at the gate, but before they would let us check our bags, we were in that front lobby and it was chaos.  The OP really shouldn’t arrive too early.  It could be a hot mess.

  3. I just want to add (I replied above) that FLL can be a hot mess.  If you get there too early, they might not let you check your bags.   This photo was taken on February 1, 2020.  The day before the Super Bowl in Miami.  It was crazy.  But, the year before (no Super Bowl), it was almost as bad. It can get VERY busy at FLL.

  4. I just changed my 3/5/22 Caribbean cruise on the Sky Princess to 1/21/23.  I was able to get “my” mini-suite, so I’m happy about that.  I had a casino rate for the 2022 cruise and had to give that up for this cruise, but I think we will be more comfortable waiting until 2023.  Hopefully, it will feel more “normal”. Obviously, it’s a long way off and anything can happen, but it will come eventually.  Something to look forward to.

One problem. The CDC guidance on vaccinated persons not needing to quarantine after exposure to COVID expires three months after vaccination. Many of us, particularly senior citizens, have already been vaccinated or will be in the very near future. By the cruising restarts the 3 month window will have already passed for many cruisers.

Yes.  This is the kicker.  Ugh.  Hopefully, as they learn more, they will extend this recommendation to longer than three months post full vaccination.

When I first read this the other day, I had to read it three times.  It is very discouraging.  But, I guess at this point, they just don’t know.

  6. I have two cruises booked for March, 2022.  The first one that I booked before Christmas is on the Sky Princess to Princess Cay, St. Maarten and St. Thomas.  I have done this itinerary three times (Sky and Regal 2x).  My friend has not.  On Sunday , we found out that an event we would really like to attend has been postponed to either Fall or March 2022.  If March, it would conflict with our Princess cruise.  So, yesterday I booked the Rotterdam to Half Moon Cay, Aruba and Curaçao.  This itinerary would be new for both of us.  This cruise is later in March, 2022.

I have cruised on Princess four times and once on HAL.  All of the cruises were very enjoyable.  As I’ve sailed on the Sky Princess last year, I know it was great and we will have a good time.  I haven’t sailed on HAL since 2009 on the Zaandam to Alaska.  While it was a great cruise, I am a little worried about shows and some nightlife.  It was definitely an older crowd.  Of course, I am now 12 years older and will fit in better.  😁. My friend is only 62, so I am not sure.

Of course, we may not feel comfortable cruising at all in early 2022.  Who knows?  Either way, I have refundable deposits and we will decide when we get closer.  A lot has to happen first.

    Opinions would be welcomed.  Thanks.

  7. To be honest, I have never paid much attention to the Captain when I cruise.  That is, until I cruised on the Sky Princess in January, 2020 with Captain Tuvo.  He is such a joy.  So personable and happy.   It was very enjoyable to be on that ship with him at the helm.  I have the Sky Princess booked for March 2022.  I have no idea if we will actually take that cruise, but if we do and Captain Tuvo is there, I will be thrilled.

  8. Just the opposite for me.  My first cruise was on the NCL Starward in 1982.  My late husband and I had an inside cabin that was the size of a walk-in closet.  I was a fan of “The Love Boat”, so you can imagine my disappointment.  Ha!  I got incredibly seasick moments after the ship left the dock.  A woman overheard me complaining that I felt sick and she offered me a patch, which I accepted.  I felt better by the middle of the night.  My husband went to dinner alone the first night.  We didn’t cruise again until 1991.

But, in spite of that, I love cruising.  I lost my husband 12 years ago, so it is a nice way to travel with friends for me.  I was supposed to board the Enchanted Princess yesterday.  Ugh.

I look forward to cruising again someday.

On a warm-weather cruise on the Royal/Regal, there's a covered, but open-air, area behind the Horizon Court with lounge chairs.  When I used it on our last cruise on the Royal, there was no one else there.  There's a bar back there, as well, if one wants something cold to drink.

That is my favorite area on the Regal!  It’s the only thing I don’t love about the Sky Princess - they put a small pool back there.

  10. I was given a free upgrade to CC on the Regal Princess for our cruise in January, 2019.  The mini suite I booked was reclassified as a Club Class Mini Suite after I booked it, so they gave us CC free.  It was very nice to not wait in line for Anytime Dining and the service we had in the DR was top-notch. While we enjoyed it, I don’t think I would pay for it.  Maybe, if it wasn’t too much to upgrade, but not the normal price.

So you didn't want to take whatever "bonus" that Princess will bestow once they cancel? We're hoping to flip it to the May 1 sailing.

No, I just went ahead and canceled it.  I won’t cruise again for quite a while.    It’s fine.

Well, I was hoping they would cancel it before the final payment is due on November 10th, but it doesn’t look like they are going to do that.  There was no way we would make the final payment, even if there is a “bonus”.

The way things are going, I think it’s going to be quite a while before I book another cruise.  No earlier than 2022, but most likely 2023.
