What Pat (Quickrate) said.  It was a replacement for us.  The 2020 Venice-Barcelona and Barca-Tampa sailings were more interesting itineraries (imo) and were a few more days, too.  Oh well!

I know the Carnival loyalists will sail just because it's Carnival in Europe, but other lines do Europe all the time.  And not necessarily more expensive than Carnival, either.

A TA at 50% capacity on a Spirit-class ship would be fabulous.  They already have a much better space ratio than the rest of Carnival's fleet.

My May 17 sailing is unique and not offered by other lines.  Price was very low for a balcony and although I prefer other lines I couldn't pass on the deal.....

It’s gotten to the point that my wife and I are discussing a future without cruising. We are seriously considering going back to flying to destinations for future vacations, which we did before becoming addicted to cruising. We haven’t booked a trip yet, but if we go down that path, I have a feeling we likely won’t return to cruising.

I don't believe I will be returning to cruising either.  Have visited some wonder ports since 1997 but I don't think cruising will ever be the same and I wouldn't enjoy wearing a mask or not being able to tour independently in Europe.  So I am just waiting for Carnival to cancel the May sailings on the Legend and I start planning something else.

  3. There were multiple sailings to Med ports that have been cancelled and passengers are just now getting notified.

We all know that some changes/modifications are going to be made to future cruise itineraries and some ports will be more restricted than others going forward.

I choose my cruises based on itinerary and not the ship.  Therefore changes may impact me more than others.  So just sharing information here....nothing more.

  4. The intent of my post was about international itinerary changes and not Carribean sailings.

I think at this point the action by one cruise line could be a sign of things to come.  Many of us with cruises to Europe next year are making big plans which do not involve staying on the ship or being limited to cruise line excursions.  So, even though itineraries changes were expected - this move is significant.

    Staying hopeful at this point.....

  5. Like I mentioned I had OBC that I was trying to use and of course hikes can be done independently.

This excursion was great and the guide was really engaging....so it was a very nice experience.

  6. Ketchikan is such a beautiful place to hike.  I will be there again next August and hope to try another one.  If you have excess OBC like I did the Celebrity excursion is very nice.  Not rushed, small group, and the guide was a Ketchikan native so he probably contracts every year.

    Enjoy your time in Ketchikan!

This, I don’t trust the numbers...

We are having issues with reporting here in FL.  Just last week a 6 yr old and an 18 yr old from different families received mail saying that they tested positive and neither had gone for a test.

I know of 2 cases personally where this has happened in the same family 🤨  So in addition to the testing reliability we have this issue.....

Glacier Bay is certainly impressive.  Been there and loved it.  BUT -- Tracy Arm can be exciting too.  We had a beautiful day off the Solstice (in 2013) onto the small Explorer ship for a close up look at the Sawyer Glaciers (South and North) and to top it off a pod of Orcas gave us a terrific show.

This trip is on my short list!  Been wanting to do this the next time I have a full day in Juneau!

  9. I sailed on the Millennium RT from Vancouver last August - just to get to Icy Strait and Sitka again on the same itinerary.

It is a beautiful ship and the balcony cabin was the best I've experienced - but I sure missed Glacier Bay and the surrounding area 🙁

Both Amsterdam and Zaandam have done the 14 day Alaska cruise in past, albeit from Seattle, but if HAL wishes to keep the itinerary, either from Vancouver or Seattle, any of the Rotterdam class vessels can easily do those sailings minus the EXC zodiac shore excursions.

True, so hopefully one of the ships will take it over.  Hoping to sail this itinerary so fingers crossed that it will still be available.  For now it is waiting game to see what happens to the 2021 sailings once the cruise lines start up again.

I personally think that if the HAL brand survives the shutdown of operations that all 4 Rotterdam class vessels will remain in service. They play a very specific role for Carnival Corporation as part of the HAL fleet. The Maasdam and Veendam are most likely not returning to service.

I wonder if that means the end for the 14 day Alaska itineraries since the Maasdam is scheduled to do it in 2021......
