  1. So "theoretically" (;)) Let's say someone wanted to take photos announcing their pregnancy onboard the Anthem of the Seas, does anyone have suggestions on how to best do that or ideas on the best photographer opportunities to find? I know that photos are typically taken before boarding the ship, before dinners, and at the ports. Thinking it might be best to find photographers taking photos as much as possible for options. But said couple would probably want to hold a sign or something as part of the photo...

Any ideas? Thinking it would be cute to add a note or something that says "Boy Voyage Sleep!" or "This ship is setting sail on..."

OK so now i am really going "overboard" with this. How about you guys do a photobook when you get home through apple or snapfish or whatever. You can even do small paperback ones and do several photos onboard if you dont mind spending a bit of money. Each with a different written poster. First one "Baby Onboard" as you are boarding the ship then one in a port that says Baby's first visit to.......Barbados or wherever it is. Then one on a formal night with you two dressed up that says "mom and dad will be lucky to have time to dress up like this for dinner again!" etc. etc. you get the idea then put them into a photobook (i usually can make a photobook with 20 pages for about $15.

Great Idea! I would do it for your formal night photo! Hold a sign

  3. I have found that there are plenty of regular beach umbrellas but we arrive at 10-ish, so I'm not sure after that b/c I've not noticed. The umbrellas are already set up. Here is a link to the webcam:

As you can see, there is plenty of shade around the pool area too. We usually stay on the beach though. I need to have shade too and it gets a little crazy b/c the people I travel with want to be in the sun so it makes for an interesting day, with us having to move around so I have shade and they have sun and then the sun & shade keep shifting. Melia is a good choice & I've always enjoyed it.

Is there a lazy river and do they have pool floats?

  4. I am posting this in the RCCL forum as this is our favourite line. It is not really a cruising question as such but I am interested in your opinions....

We have done a few cruises on RCCL (and one on another line that I will rather stay away from in future) and loved all our cruises.

We have done South Pacific over New Years, Alaska, another South Pacific mid year, and most recently Christmas and New Years cruise to the North Island of NZ and South Pacific.

I did not mind going back to the South Pacific as only one port was the same as where we had been before.

Now that the back story is over, I am looking to book another cruise to New Zealand (all different ports except 1) however my wife is keen on a land holiday somewhere else.

Have you folks done Alaska yet- that is really very special and different. I would advise to take 3-4 extra days to do land though. Rent a car and go to Denali at the very least before boarding the ship in Seward to do a Southbound Alaska cruise.

She has said that while each cruise was fantastic, it is the same experience repeated, and she wants to go somewhere different for our next holiday.

I am just curious what the thoughts of fellow cruisers are, especially those that have done many cruises, regarding the same experience over and over again.

Have you folks done Alaska yet- that is really very special and different. I would advise to take 3-4 extra days to do land though. I saw Moose walking down the road in Denali, Bears, a wolf and took a helicopter to a glacier and went dogsledding on the ice. It is a trip of a lifetime to me. (I have done it twice) and getting ready in two years to do an entire family trip there to do 5 days land and 7 day cruise for 10 of us for my retirement trip. Rent a car and go to Denali at the very least before boarding the ship in Seward to do a Southbound Alaska cruise.

  5. I am going to be Diamond after my March cruise - but actually 2 nights into the cruise I am technically Diamond so wondering two things...

    1. Can I book a Celebrity cruise using the RCCL Next Cruise office?

    2. Is there any benefit to booking the Celebrity cruise while onboard RCCL?

    3. Since I won't be officially Diamond until after my cruise - do you think the Next Cruise office will be able to see that I will be Diamond and apply the proper discount to the Celebrity cruise?

    4. If I wait until after the cruise - can I use my same C&A Vacation Planner or does Celebrity have an entire different staff?

The reason I am booking Celebrity is because for years I have wanted to do an "Around the Horn" cruise. RCCL does not offer them anymore - but Celebrity has one in Dec 2017 that looks perfect!

yes there is also reduced deposit. i got a balcony discount before for celebrity and i am a diamond so i dont know unless it was a promotional thing or some other special.

  6. Hi,

We have a large group (27 of us, but 10 teens) going on the Grandeur for February break, does anyone know anything offered for teens. I know there is a teen center, but any activities. It is winter break so I am sure there will be lots of kids ....just curious. It is a cruise so I know they will have fun. Thanks!!!

LOL Oh Lordy! When is this February break. I will be on the Grandeur for the 2/13 cruise (yikes). Just kidding. I love kids.

  7. A very sad occasion for all concerned. Everyone's nightmare.

A posting yesterday showed the bus - looked old . This brings up the question are buses and transport used on excursions required to have seat belts? If not I am reluctant to book and excursion in the Caribbean.

transit buses in the US don't have seat belts nor do most school buses. This could have happened anywhere.

  8. i have found in my experience that even though it is not offered everyday that you can inquire as to whether they have it and they usually oblige with no problem. last cruise i got it every single night. after the first two nights my very kind waiter brought it without my asking. :)

  9. absolutely - i travel with my grandson who has a tree nut allergy all of the time on RCCL and they are excellent- they send the chef out on the first day to talk to me at the table about his allergies and provide a menu ahead of time in case i want to preorder but when i don't they are very compulsive about preparing his food separately and safely. Never had a problem. you can email them and someone will contact you. I have misplaced the email address but it was something like specialdietary@rccl.com or something like that.

  10. if we are on the Anthem for the 3 day weekend cruise the beginning of March which does not technically go anywhere i think we do not need a passport- is that correct? I mean there are no cruises to nowhere allowed anymore so it does go to Halifax for one hour but you are not allowed to disembark so it is not really a stop.

  11. I have not been on the Anthem yet (March2016) but we did go on the Quantum. I was like you very concerned about the reviews. We went any way and was very happy we did. We were blown away by the ship and the experience.

If you are a traditional cruiser who wants their formal night and classic dining and traditional Broadway type shows you will be disappointed. This is not your father's cruise ship. However, if you love new experiences and can go with the flow, you will enjoy her.

We loved going to different dining venues and found the food was acceptable and no better or worse than the Oasis or other RCI ships. For every negative experienced we had 2 positive experiences.

I know you are talking about the glitches but I have found that those who are frustrated with the very different experience are also less tolerant of problems that comes up. I would never go on a ship the 1st couple of months because of the newly trained staff but within 6 months it should be fine.

so are there no formal nights? I am just doing the 3 day to nowhere in March but if i dont need to pack a gown i won't. Thanks

  12. Starting to plan for 50th anniversary event. DW & I in our 70's, two married children & their spouses in their 40's and three granddaughters who will be 13, 9 & 6 - in the summer of 2016. Did a Disney cruise last thanksgiving & it was great. Not looking to do Disney this time. DW & I did Alaska years ago w/o kids on Princess and loved that. My biggest concern are the kids. Would appreciate recommendations or warnings for Alaska cruise.

No warnings- they will LOVE it! I took my then 6 year old grandson and we did a DIY 5 day land tour starting at Anchorage and working our way down to Talkeetna, Denali(for two days) then anchorage where we got on the train and took it to Seward and embarked on Royal Carribean Radiance of the Seas. He had the best time, we did a helicopter ride to the glacier and dog sledding there, did a whale watch excursion, saw moose on the road in Denali, Bears in Denali along with a wolf. He was amazed by it all. Royal Carribean also has a great kids play area called Adventure Ocean and they had great activities for the kids if i wanted a little break (as it was just him and I). He was not a bit bored. He was the same age as your youngest grandaughter and the older ones will love it too! Have a great time and congrats on your anniversary. We are going to do the same thing i did with my grandson in three more years this time with the entire family for my retirement! Can't wait.
