  1. We like Four Points by Sheraton. We usually rent a car and drive from Orlando on Thursday or Friday and spend a couple of days in Cocoa Beach. Four Points has a restaurant, a Starbucks and their own little beach gear shop. It's also right across from Ron Jons. The only negative: not good if you are a pool person. The pool is in the parking garage. Yeah, you read that right.

  2. The only bonus that the helipad has is that it is one of the few places on the ship dark enough to see stars. My husband loves astronomy and we have gone out there to see them. If you're determined to be out there in the wind, put a little LED light on the box so she can see the ring when you open it. :)

Good luck. I am sure it will be wonderful whatever way you decide to do it. :)

  3. Thanks for the review. In the Windjammer you are kind of on your own for allergies. (DH is allergic to shellfish and a warning on some noodles had everything BUT shellfish mentioned and he took a bite and had to spit it out --shrimp. It was NOT advertised as having shrimp in it nor did it usually have it on the mainland when we have had that dish before!)

In the MDR, we have found it helpful to speak with the Head Waiter the first night. We also make sure to mention the allergies (shellfish and cocoa/chocolate) in our reservation. The Head Waiter was very good about coming around and making sure my husband reviewed the next night's menu and put in his order.

If you have any questions, they will always check ingredients for you and if they cannot find out, they will be honest about it so you can choose something else.

I understand your frustration because you really have to be proactive about food sensitivity and allergies on the ship.

  4. Exactly, dcgrumpy! That's why we were having the debate. I said there was no way he was getting the 77 buck per glass cognac on ANY drink package, but with the way the description you posted is worded, it sounds like you can.

Not really in need of the specialty coffees, so we will go with the premium rather than the ultimate as it will save a few bucks.

    Thanks!

  5. Any opinions on Casey Peltier? This is only my third cruise, but I have been lucky enough to have had good CDs in Graham Seymour and Richard Spacey.

While a bad CD won't make or break my cruise, there is definitely a difference in the experience from what I have heard. Seymour was better at scheduling and Spacey better at entertaining the masses.

Also, any idea when we will know who is subbing for Peltier during his break? We go in August and will probably have the sub.

  6. Our first cruise on Freedom was in the middle of Spring Break. (We got off the ship Easter Sunday). I did not realize this until after we booked and I was a bit wary as I am not fond of unruly children. However, I did not notice the fact that, according to the captain, there were 1200 children on board! I never once felt overwhelmed by kids or even saw many acting out. A very pleasant surprise.

  7. Subscribing to this thread.Happy Anniversary, ckrobyn. Very much looking forward to your postings.

Do you think you might be able to scan your Cruise Compasses when you return? I know that's a lot, but I would love to see how the set up is with the changes in the ship and the different cruise director.

We're cruising in August for our 16th anniversary and I am getting excited already.

    Safe travels!

  8. You should put 'No Announcements' as an option because it is extremely realistic and right now it is one sided.

As I said in the past, Royal claims to be autistic friendly. I have a daughter with autism so I have studied about this for many years and lived with it. It makes me sad that so many people are that selfish that they need to have the convenience of an announcement when they could see everything in writing. These announcements cause pain to people with sensory issues. They have a hard time every day of their lives. Can't we try and make it a little easier for them?

I am curious about what other things bother your daughter on a cruise. I would think just walking through the casino area would be a nightmare. Sometimes it is overwhelming for me, so I cannot imagine her processing it well. I know other kids who would be totally overwhelmed by the pool and the main dining room as well.
