  1. You do not need a full diagnosis to be covered for a medical cancelation; you do need a doctor’s written recommendation that your husband should not travel given his condition. The doctor will need to make this statement for submission with your claim, either on letterhead or on the claim form. Whether you get a refund or FCC credits will depend on whether this is a new medical condition or if it falls under the Pre-Existing Condition lookback. You are already in the full penalty period, but you should cancel as soon as your doctor says your husband should not travel. You do not want to delay. You will need to contact your TA to process the cancellation since that is where your booking resides.
  2. Many people don’t realize the Plus package price is included in the insurance calculation; so you are not missing anything. They are. Buy onboard, save $4.80 per day. It’s easy to buy onboard, you will be bombarded with opportunities to do so…and you will make someone’s day because they sold you the package. Win-win.
  3. If you are buying cruiseline insurance, check to see if it has a waiver period for pre-existing conditions; I believe most cruiseline policies all have the look back period and there is no waiver for PEC if purchased within a set time of booking. Many 3rd party policies do have a PEC waiver if purchased within 14-21 days of putting down the deposit. Last but not least, if you want to purchase the insurance prior to final payment, you have to make sure you specify it in writing, and it must be in addition to any other payment required at that time, like a deposit. Most cruise lines have a policy which specifies the order in which payments are applied (fare, taxes, insurance, etc). You also need to get the acknowledgment back from the cruise line that the payment was applied to the insurance.
  4. Increased booking costs for a different replacement trip are not covered under any policy I have seen. Trip insurance is for a specific trip, with specific dates and covers ONLY the specific named perils or hazards listed in the policy. Many travelers, both experienced and novice, misunderstand what trip insurance does and does not cover. If one is not well-versed in reading the actual policy, I strongly recommend using a knowledgeable agent. My favorite is Steve at Trip Insurance Store. His blog and store webpages are loaded with illustrative examples of how this all works. Pro Tip->By law, all agents must sell the exact same policy at the same price. Meaning it won’t cost you any more for using a knowledgeable agent than a plug-in-the-blanks online website.

I finally figured it out—and it’s an embarrassingly simple oversight on my part—but the claim for the train ride appears to be for a Trip Delay caused by a Common Carrier due to a named Hazard (weather). In that case, the PVP policy does pay some for hotels, transportation and meals; but the amount is limited to the policy limits, generally $500/$1500. Trip Delay is different from Cancellation, (which was the original question about whether Princess insurance covers cancellation of hotels and flights purchased separately). But I should have recognized and mentioned that in my earlier response. Mea Culpa.
  6. This is one of those questions that sounds simple but turns out to be more complex. Firstly, the PVP does not list the cancellation of a cruise by the cruise line as a covered event. In reality, as seen by this week’s events, the cruise line will usually reimburse all passengers the cost of their cruise. And maybe some FCC. But it is direct from Princess, not a filed insurance claim. If you purchase your own air, it is not part of the Travel Arrangements, and is not covered under the insurance. If you purchase EzAir, AND you have a claim under the Trip Delay provisions, the PVP allows for “a one-way Economy Fare to return you to your originally scheduled return destination”. And then it gets more complex…depending on the delay being a defined Hazard, and whether Princess is a Common Carrier (yes in US ports, not clear for foreign ports). But again, in the past when passengers have been stranded by a cruise line cancellation, Princess has usually automatically booked alternate flights for all EzAir pax, and much less-frequently has assisted other pax with flight arrangements at varying levels of cost.

  8. J-Your situation is definitely unique and feel free to disagree with me at any time! In your case, I actually agree with you…Princess can and should cover your situation as trip interruption either through direct reimbursement or failing that, through you filing a claim. As for the pre-cruise train ride noted above, that is a new one on me, unless the train booking was part of a vacation package. (I seem to recall that there used to be some sort of bus ride package in the northeast somewhere that was a direct-to-ship sort of thing???) The point I was trying to make for the prior post was that in most cases, Princess insurance is different from 3rd party in that 3rd party coverage is from the moment you cross your threshold leaving until you return home at the end. Princess coverage is technically just for the part you purchased through them, so it may cover doorstep to doorstep, OR it could only cover gangway to gangway. They do have a provision that covers a few days (3?) pre- or post-cruise if you arrive early or stay late when purchasing EzAir. Which brings us back to your unique situation…a stickler insurance claims adjuster could say you have four separate trips and try to treat them individually. But Princess has already directly covered you for the interruption with the hotel in lieu of flights home and back. Which leaves us all not knowing how they will proceed; whether offering you continued direct compensation for this disruption or falling back on the insurance claim process. I suspect that they will choose something similar to the situation that happened back in Nice (that was another October, wasn’t it?) and you will eventually be ‘made whole’ but it will require the same meticulous records, documentation, and hair-pulling. The Princess insurance should cover your medical costs at the standalone ER. Now, go get well.
  9. That’s right. Princess insurance only covers the parts of the vacation purchased through Princess. Loads more information about how all this works over in the insurance boards…but if you want to cover hotels and other non-refundable items purchased outside of Princess, you need another policy covering those items and dates.
  10. Because the ship overnights, disembarkation starts quite early. First walkoff was at 4:30 am a month ago. Not sure what time the first airport transfer was, but if your flight is listed in EzAir, they will have an appropriately timed transfer.
  11. Never seen a charge for tendering; although I have seen a fee for optional shuttle transportation from the dock into town.
  12. It’s very easy..after you pick up your luggage, call up your Uber ride on the app and have a seat in the rideshare waiting area. It’s very clearly marked, adjacent to the luggage exit, with seats. They ask you not to exit until your Uber has arrived, which you probably already know you can easily follow in the app. Following this procedure minimizes confusion and milling crowds as cars come and go right outside the exit door.
  13. There was a small half-page listing of the buffet themes in our room upon boarding. (Geoherb may not have had one; our page of ‘Elite Benefits’ showed up on Day 2 or 3).
  14. We have the plus package and embarked in Boston two days ago. Definitely had several drinks before a late departure and there are no charges showing on either folio.
  15. Just telling y’all what parts they quoted to me in denying my full ‘value’ claim in June of 2020. I know my minor loss of $231 per person pales in comparison to what Pescado was facing, but I’ll let her tell her own story if she wants. And with that, I’m off to attempt another Princess cruise. Here is to wishing everyone happy, healthy, non-eventful cruises and a complete lack of insurance claims. They can be horribly rude awakenings.
  16. Yes, one would think ‘value’ is pretty clear….and yet…there is currently another thread about the use of gift cards and their value not being covered at all. Further down in the actual insurance coverage portion of the DOC (pg 8 NSIGTC 2500) it states: “Payments or Deposits means the cash, check, or credit card amounts actually paid for Your Trip. Payments made in the form of a certificate, voucher not purchased by cash, grant or discount are not payments or deposits as defined herein.”
  17. Hi J ☺️. I’m pretty sure I’m not an oracle, but I'm definitely telling my husband that you think I am. As for @Kgills; it’s not a straightforward answer. For years, the answer was as @PescadoAmarillo stated. Credit, gift cards, etc. were not insurable because it was not money from your bank account to the cruiseline. Then came Covid and ALL those FCC that Princess pushed in lieu of cash refunds. And inevitably some of those cruises were also cancelled; and that’s when the silliness began. Princess began allowing their PVP “insurance” to cover these credits. Third party insurance did not, never did. So…I can’t predict what might happen, but if I were in your position I would start a chat with Princess and ask (while clearly stating this is just a what-if question and NOT a request to cancel) what their system says. If they can offer you new credit with an extended expiration, great. If they say No, ask why they sold you the Platinum policy and what price you paid for it and what it covers. Then make sure you print out the chat so you have it all in writing.
  18. GC, There are a couple of points to address here: 1. There are set minimum connection times for each airport and airlines do have to keep to those limits when scheduling connecting flights. That said, many minimum connection times are too close for my comfort. 2. I think travel insurance policies that cover missed connections separately (in addition to travel delay) do not have a minimum connection time listed in their DOC. 3. In your example, I believe separate tickets too close together would be treated similarly to not leaving for the airport early enough and missing your flight. If the missed connection was not due to a documented flight delay, and it’s not in the DOC as a covered reason, it’s not covered.

  23. 259 for MTG luncheon, Western Caribbean out of Galveston January 2023. Yes, we were surprised; and we agree with the statement above about officers who didn’t want to be there and braggart conversations. Food was nice, and we were happy to be invited.
  24. Ever since the barrel chair was removed we prefer the deluxe balconies just for the seating. Of course, Princess holds those back as 3 person rooms so you have to go through a few gyrations to book a specific room as a double. 🙄
