Thanks Canuker - maybe I didn't explain our plans very well. We will be disembarking QM2 at Redhook and staying for 2 nights at the Sheraton, Lincoln Harbor. We will not be at Newark Airport.
There is a ferry from the pier in Manhattan straight to Lincoln harbour right outside the hotel. If you can all manage your cases from the cab to ferry then ferry to hotel this would be a less expensive option.
Just price a ride to the pier west 39 th street mid Manhattan. The ferry cost is $9 each seniors 62+ are $8.25 children a bit less. You can buy tickets at ferry ticket office in Manhattan and hotel on Weehawken side.
Great hotel have used it often. The ferry in Manhattan has a free shuttle bus to all area of Manhattan and back again.

Hi
I travelled with 2 x 12 year olds and they visited the club most days. They were disappointed by the fact they had to be signed in and out by an adult and are looking forward to being old enough to be in the teen club then can come and go as they please. As there are not vast numbers of children onboard it seemed that they all made friends and hung out together both in and out of the club.
The club room is nice and different zones for the ages with the usual game consoles.

Hi
The cruise connect service is great. One point though worth a mention is that you will not get a call to disembark. You just get off when you need to in time catch your coach.
I have had a couple of times where we have waited over an hour for passengers to board the coach. Their reason was that they were waiting on board for a call to disembark for the coach. Rather annoying:evilsmile:

I love future cruise credits, I just booked an 8 day trans-Atlantic for September, 2019,and my FCC $300 covers my deposit with no further payment until June 28, 2019. If I change my mind the credit can be used for another cruise. I am a US resident, and I booked it on board.
Yes the FCC deposit of $300 can be used on any booking but the on board credit promised when you originally pay the deposit for a future cruise is not always awarded.

It is difficult to verify exactly the terms for a US FCD, since almost all useful information other than a few FAQs has been removed from the US Web site. We (US-based) were on QM2 in December 2017 and purchased FCDs, as we have for the past several crossings. The basics are:
- Minimum amount is US$300, which counts as the entire deposit for whichever future cruise to which it is applied
- You have four years in which to use the FCD on another cruise
- The FCD is refundable if unused (not sure about requesting a refund before the end of four years...nothing in the letter we received prohibits it)
- On the furture cruise to which the deposit is applied, you receive OBC. If it is 6-9 days, the per person OBC amount is US$100 for inside and ocean view, US$150 for balcony (and presumably Club Balcony, although that is not stated), US$200 for Grills. For cruises of 10+ days, the amounts are doubled. OBC expires at the end of the chosen voyage and any unused portion will not carry over or be refunded.
- Non-transferable (i.e., only for the person who booked it), only applies to the first two persons in a cabin.
Hi
Another point to note with the USA FCD terms is that if you book a discounted cruise they are now not giving the OBC which to me is the whole point of purchasing the FC.
They will use the deposit but no OBC given. This has happened to me twice now.

What does Cunard do for New Years Eve? Special dinner? Events? Champagne toast? Is there a club with a DJ on the Queen Victoria?
Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Yes there is a DJ until late in the disco near the commodore club.
Various locations on the ship have gatherings. In warmer climates most are on deck to watch fireworks if in places like Tenerife or Madeira
Free bubbly is usually plentiful.

was looking through the wine list on VP and fancied a nice red and saw Old Vine Zinfandel Ironstone Lodi priced onboard at $51.75
Was in Tesco today and saw the exact same one at £10 so 1 jumped in my case :D maybe I should have got more
on a similar note on the TA last month the wine tasting for platinum members was on the final full day which I found strange as it is nice to taste and then know to buy one you liked. The ones tasted were around the $40 mark.
Not good marketing on Cunards part!
2 days until boarding the QE :D:D

I plan on blowing most of my $675 in the Champagne bar - feel free to join, the Veuve Clicquot is on me :D
:D see you at the meet and greet for VC
Julie and Mark:)

I hope my two 11 year old Grandsons treasure their memories for many years to come after the TA we took this Aug on QM2 like you have
:D:D:D

Try and attend the cruise critic Meet and Greet.
A wealth of secrets can be discovered from fellow cruisers:D

We are already booked on Victoria, so just trying to get a grip on the festivities.

Santa arrives usually in the lift and then off to the Queens room to present every child with a gift. Gifts are put into age groups. Each adult gets a gift left in the stateroom. Last year was a china wedgewood mug. Very Nice :D
I am sure the childrens club get festive too.

The officer schedule can be found here although Cunard no longer gives the exact sailing dates of specific captains:
https://ask.cunard.com/help/mini/cunard/fleet/senior_officers
I was very disappointed to see that the "Chief Purser" is now called "Customer Services Manager". Just like your land based hotel or shopping mall. It's sad to see a traditional ocean-going term fade into the past. :(
Thank you BlueRiband

I'm always intrigued as to why so many future guests often want to know who a particular crew member is going to be on their next cruise. Not only on this forum site, but one often reads posts/questions relating to this or that 'Cruise Director, Bar Tender or Captain'.
I would imagine these crew members ( who often read these forums) must be having a good laugh at us. We may feel we know them, but at the end of the day, or should I say at the end of our cruise, they will have forgotten about us ;)
It's like saying " Does anyone know if Tracey is still on 'Fruit & Veg' in Waitrose or M&S as I've got my weekly shop next week".
:)
Some lucky passengers have a wonderful experience with crew members and build a rapport and enjoy meeting a familiar face on future voyages.
I continue to be amazed when a crew member remembers former passengers when you consider the vast numbers they meet.
This can of course relate to negative experiences too.

Hi
We were on QM2 in Aug with grandsons age 11. One is Lactose intolerant.
We informed the Maitre D' asap and our table waiters were informed.
Each evening an advance menu was issued the same as the main menu and a Lactose free option was made for his selection for the next eve.
Even at lunch in the buffet a member of staff would go on request to the kitchen to find an alternative option if you inform them on day 1.
This was especially useful for dessert.
My other GS is Vegetarian not vegan though so there were many choices.

The BBC programme that was on after the 3 Queens in Liverpool, but only shown on BBC Northwest, is on national TV tonight:
Thanks for posting:D

We absolutely love it onboard at Christmas.
We do see some familiar faces too
Have been on all 3 ships at Christmas to Caribbean on QM2 and Canaries on QV and QE.
Even had a secret santa with other CC friends on roll call for Meet & Greet on 25th. Great fun
Have never booked earlier than September though.

Hi, we are going on the QE Canary Islands cruise next week and am wondering how warm it will be on board during the day. Will we need socks for instance or just shoes?! Thanks for any thoughts.
Hi Pemberton2
You will find it is usually a pleasant temperature onboard, some areas cooler than others.
Please join our Roll Call and Meet and Greet on 24th Dec 2pm:D

It Makes very interesting reading, Thank You for taking the time.
Am on QE for Christmas and New Year:D
-
We are thinking of booking this year's QV Christmas cruise, only problem os it's to the Canaries a place we are less than enthusiastic about.
Is Christmas onboard worth the Canaries?
Absolutely:D
Check out QE she is away for Xmas and New Year:)

Hi
Interesting thread about various OBC  It seems to vary tremendously.
Don't forget to claim military OBC if you qualify and Share OBC for owning 100 or more Carnival shares:)
I would also like to encourage any XMAS QE pax to join our roll call and attend our onboard Meet and Greet

First time on Cunard since 2000. Is there a significant difference between meals/service from the Britannia and Britainnia Club restaurants? Is it worth the additional cost?
I did the previous post incorrectly - NKOB - new kid on the block!
I suggest you post this question on the Cunard forum page and not the roll call section and you will get more replies.
I have not experienced Club but know that it has flexible times and a slightly different menu. It is a separate section of the main dining room I think. Not sure if QV has it though.

It is only for th e fountain drinks. It does not include fresh fruit juice.
It can be purchased by one person only in a cabin.
You could buy an occasional drink for someone else but only one at a time or it would be obvious.
It is only available in the bars or by a bar waiter in buffets.
It is only available to buy for the whole voyage and is taken off in one payment at beginning of voyage. You purchase it at a bar.
