  1. A couple of years ago we did it the other way---our cruise ended in Fort Lauderdale and we flew out of Miami. We caught an Air Canada flight at 12:30 and we had lots of time. However, last year we flew home from Fort Lauderdale and we barely made our 2:30 flight, not because of not having enough time, but because of the lengthy lines at the airport in Fort Lauderdale. I don't know what airline you are flying with but our Air Canada experience in Fort Lauderdale was less than stellar--this year we are ending in FL but flying from Miami on a 1:00 flight which should be lots of time.

  2. Has anyone used either Aboutchile or SouthExcursions recently? I have quotes from both companies for our pre-cruise stay in March for a half-day Santiago city tour, and a full day Valparaiso/Vina del Mar tour the next day.

SouthExcursions includes the hotels and transfers to the ship, but seems expensive ($510 US pp), Aboutchile doesn't. Aboutchile also requires a credit card # to be emailed or faxed to hold the reservation--no online booking, which makes me a bit hesitant. Both companies will stop at the airport on the Valparaiso tour to pick up another couple joining our party, but there is a substantial difference in cost between the two companies (SouthExcursions $165 pp vs $71 pp Aboutchile for the additional couple for the day tour). Tripadvisor has mixed reviews on South Excursions, and great reviews for Aboutchile, but nothing recent for either company. I'm looking for any personal experiences to help me make my decision!

  3. We were on the Royal in the summer and our tours came back later than our early dinner time in a couple of ports. We checked with our wait staff the day before and let them know that our tour would be late getting back and they let us know what the latest time we could dine at would be at our usual sitting. They gave us a 45 minute leeway from the start of dinner service. Our dinner time was 6:00 and they gave us up to 6:45ish to get there for dinner. It just meant that we had to eat more quickly than usual, but still had our regular servers and table.
