  1. We had done two cruises on the Big Red Boat and then we did three Carnival cruise. Our close friends love RCL and they talked us into going on the Freedom of the Seas. We paid the same for an inside cabin on RCL as we did for a balcony on Carnival. Also, the room we were in was old and had duck tape holding down a throw rug and wallpaper or paint, I can't remember which coming off one wall. It was a definite disappointment to us. We were used to seeing people cleaning everything all the time on Carnival, only saw it twice on RCL. both cruises were 7 days out of Port Canaveral . We are staying with Carnival now. Oh, we missed the Serenity deck , too. Our friends still love RCL though, so I guess it is personal taste.

  2. Jeff, I want to thank you for doing this great review ! I have read and enjoyed all of your reviews, but this one was special to me. My mother was born in 1911 in Nova Scotia and I remember her telling me the story of how her father was asked to come and help dig graves for the bodies from the Titanic. Apparently she though they asked as many men as they could to come over to Halifax and help with this. Her family moved to the states when she was 16, and although I have been back a couple of times too visit relatives, I never got to Halifax to visit the cemetery. My family lived around the Bay of Fundy. I would love to do this cruise, but like your wife I will have to wait till I retire to do it since I also am a teacher. I am in my 43rd year of teaching now and I think I may only teach about three more years. I can't wait to do that cruise. Again, thank you for all the time and effort it took to do this review. Tell Patti congratulations on her retirement !

  3. Mike, I am so glad to see another review from you. I kept looking the past two years and wondered what had happened. I really appreciate the time you take with your reviews. I love looking at your pictures and feel familiar with each ship after you have reviewed it. Thank you so much for doing this..I can't wait to aread all of it and your comparison of the two cruise lines.

  4. I love your review ! We were on the Liberty in March and were really looking forward to Grand Turk, but unfortunately strong winds prevented us from docking. We were so disappointed ! We will just have to make sure it is on our next itinerary ! I love looking at your pictures, because they make me feel like I am there ! Thank you for taking the huge amount of time it must take to do such great reviews !

  5. Brianna, I always love your reviews! I love how thorough you are and all the pictures you take. I particularly love the ppictures of the water that you showed. One of my favorite things to do on a cruise is to just sit and read and listen to the sound of the waves while looking out at the water. (Sometimes it's hard to focus on the book because the water lures my eyes out to it. ) Thank you so much for taking the time to do thyour reviews. I know it must take a huge amount of time, but know that it allows the rest of us to travel with you and enjoy cruising.

  6. We also are sailing on the Liberty in a little less than 3 weks now. Our friends must have been on the same trip as you. She was telling me today that they felt there was a lot of smoke both from the casino and from the side of the ship they are allowed to smoke on. Did you find this a problem? Do you have to pay to use the sauna and steam rooms?

  7. I love looking at your beautiful photos. I do have a couple of questions for you. First, how did you like the vegetaian food? Can you describe some of the dishes you had? It seemed to me on other cruises the vegetarian entres were often Indian. Was that the case here? How did you like the beach at Little Stirrup Key ? How was the water? We would love to sail out of Jacksonville, because it would be closer for us, but I wasn't sure about the ship. What were your impressions? Thanks for any info you can give.

  8. Yes, my DH and I have stayed on the ship and loved it! We are only able to cruise one particular week of the year due to our different work schedules, so we don't have a lot of choice about where we go. It has to be that week and one year the only itinerary was the exact same one we had done the year before. We had done excursions in every port the first ime and my DH is not a beach person, so we decided we would just stay on the ship. It was the most relaxing vacation we've ever had !! We had the ship pretty much to ourselves. We went to the spa and laid out on the Serenity deck. We had no lines for meals. It was totally relaxing. We agreed that from now on, we will stay on for at least one port. If you come on your cruise totally exhausted from work, I would heartily recommend trying this.

  9. We also have not been on the Liberty before. On this Mar. 8 cruise, she is stopping at Nassau, St. Thomas. San Juan, and Grand Turk. I think this must be very similar to your itinerary. She has all the 2.0 upgrades so I am anxious to see them. We have been on the Drean twice. She is our favorite ship, but we have also been on the Spirit, and the Legend. I haven't been on a ship with 2.0 yet. I can't wait!

  10. I absolutely love your reviews! If you are looking for a spring cruise, how about March 8 on the Liberty out of Cape Canaveral? Think how good it would be to get out of Chicago in March !! (We used to live in Chicago, so I know what I'm talking about!) Also, I love tea time and would love to go with you. I have gone by myself before and it was ok, but definately better with friends.

  11. Thanks so much for doing this review! I would love to sail from NY just to be able to see the beautiful skyline and the Statue of Liberty! From your description of your table mates the first night, it certainly seems that those kids who don't show respect to their parents are always unhappy. Look at the relationship you have with your mom and how much fun you have together. can't wait for the rest of the review!

  12. You and your mother will love Alaska! We went on May 29 a few years ago and for most of the week we had great weather. However, the sailing before us saw a lot of snow. As to mobility issues, there are several excursions that are fine for those with mobility issues. Me DH and I both are unable to do strenuous activity and yet we loved the train ride and took a couple of other bus excursions. There is a lot for everyone. My only concern for that week would be the weather.

  13. Hi, we are lookking into taking the Liberty and I think we got spoiled after taking the Dream a couple of times. Can anyone tell me exactly what the spa on the Liberty consists of? We loved that thassolphy (sp?) pool in the spa and we got week passes so we could use that pool and the heated lounge chairs and the relaxing room in the spa. Does the Liberty have anything like that? Does anyone have pictures of the spa area? What are some things on the Liberty that you particularly liked? Thanks for any info.

  14. We just got back from our first RCI cruise on the Freedom of the Seas. I agree with everything the op wrote. One of our main problems was that for the same price we always got a balcony on Carnival, we could only get an inside promenade cabin and it was really small! The crew was very nice and helpful. We did miss all of Carnivals food venues out by the pool, especially the deli. I know people had raved about the cafe promenade, but each tme we went there, they only had a selection of 3 premade sandwiches, no comparison to Carnivals deli. Aslo, you have to pay for a hamburger at Johnny Rockets. The layout of the ship was great, but I love Carnival's spa and the fact that you can buy week passes there. Carnival's spa has many more things to offer than RCI. We missed the spa. We won't be sailing on RCI again, because we just didn't feel that we got as much for our money as we did on Carnival. All the passengers on RCI were very nice and friendly though.
