It's quite clear from the official announcements that the crew will not necessarily be vaccinated when cruises start.

    P&O policy:

    • Crew will undergo a strict testing and quarantine regime as well as regular testing during their time on board

    Saga policy:

Our focus in the first instance is on our guests and ensuring all of them have been vaccinated, we have comprehensive COVID‑19 protocols in place to protect our crew, including quarantine and regular testing and as soon as crew can be vaccinated they will be.

Exactly.   "as soon as crew can be vaccinated they will be" is not the same as " officially stated that their crews will not be vaccinated,".

  2. I tip the Butler on the first day and never have any problems. I don't drink alcohol in the cabin, but have the mini bar restocked with soft drinks, and I have a very impressive spirits collection at home courtesy of Cunard

I don't understand the free drinks in there lounge comment?

If it's a long trip, I may ask the butler to change the furniture on the balcony. I like a high table and chairs.

Which reminds me of one voyage on the QE2 when I mentioned to the butler that I didn't like the feel of yet varnish on the wooden decking on the balcony. When I can back from lunch it had been astroturfed!

Interesting - why are foreign nationals getting priority over UK citizens? This will be very poor publicity for Princess.

How are Princess getting their crew vaccinated, and not P&O,  Saga, Celebrity  etc ?

I'll wait for an official announcement.

I think your statement about the other lines operating from the UK isn't correct.

I can't speak to the politics of it, just the practicality.

However, maybe your second sentence explains why your last sentence hasn't happened! Just a thought, I have no insight into Princess's marketing practices.

I'm sure your correct for US cruises,  but how will UK crew be vaccinated?

I am talking about UK summer cruises (see post #37). The UK crew will be vaccinated by NHS staff coming onboard when in Southampton starting 15th June.

I have no idea what the situation is for US cruises.

All the cruises commencing in the UK in the next few weeks will have unvaccinated crew. As all the pax will be vaccinated,  there is little risk to the pax, and I assume Princess are hoping that there will be no transmission to the crew, given the 100% vaccination status of the passengers.

For UK summer cruise,  All Crew (not in quarantine) will be vaccinated before passenger services start.

FWIW, I have never seen them on a ship's menu, and that includes Crystal, Silversea, Regent, Seabourn, Oceania and others.  If the smaller luxury ships can't seem to properly include them in their menus, I doubt if a much bigger ship would.

Cunard have them available off menu.

I believe it is called enjoying the atmosphere whilst chilling out and feeling good.  It is nice to be able to spend time doing very little rather than having an exhausting pre-mapped 'schedule' of multiple tasks that have to be completed each day - taking each day as it comes and simply enjoying soaking up the enjoyment of a timeless holiday is something few of us do very often - we enjoy experiencing the atmosphere but we also do ballroom dancing at every opportunity. We enjoy taking time over a meal rather than wolfing down max sized portions as fast as possible, having a slow walk either around the ship or around a port of call. Simply sitting in a park in one of the ports listening to the birds, and perhaps having a drink for an hour - fabulous.  You can certainly enjoy life without a bucket list of to-do's, at any age.

Each time I travel on Cunard I make a point of doing something I have never done before. There are so many things I still want to experience.

  8. I am 53 and have over 70 Cunard sailings under my belt (at least I did the last time I checked). I always find it difficult to answer when people ask me what sort of things I do onboard. I reality I do very little...

I have never been to the Theatre. Never been to a lecture. Never been to a class of any kind. Only twice been to an officers party. Only ever go to the Queens Room to get somewhere else. Hardly ever get of the ship at port stops. Don't shop onboard. I gave up reading the Daily Program years ago... and yet the day whirls past and I have a great time.

I think people find their own space, pace and place onboard.

  9. From Cunard's FAQ (2nd June):

At the terminal guests will be asked to confirm you have insurance. Guests may be asked for proof of their travel insurance so guests should bring either a printed or digital copy of their insurance documentation that confirms cover for the named travellers over the dates of travel.

If we ask to see confirmation of insurance, we will be looking for a travel insurance document that names the travelling guests and confirms cover for the dates of the cruise. We will not be able to check for any specific details of the policy other than the name and valid dates of insurance. It remains the guest’s responsibility to ensure they are adequately covered based on our requirements and their personal needs.

  10. I have only sailed on Celebrity once, but have a sailing booked next month.

I'm confused about my cabin allocation and wondered if anyone could help me understand.

If I look at the website it is showing as cabin 9259 (C3 Deck 9), if I look at the App it is showing as 1215 (C2 Deck 10). Any ideas which is correct? I tired calling Celebrity, but it just costs a load of money with no answer.

     Thanks

  11. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else and have scanned the relevant Cunard sites... does anyone know if the Casino's will be open on the British Isles cruises?

We are booked QE on 19th July and 27th August, and a couple of 7 nights on Regal Princess and 7 nights on Celebrity, and I will really miss my casino time if they are closed.

  12. We are onboard and haven't heard a single complaint about the itinerary changes. The Captain has done a terrific job keeping passengers informed and the Entertainment Director put in place a full program. It isn't a major discussion point at the bars during cocktail hour.
