  1. This is our first time for sailing on HAL so we have no "status". We have a guarantee SY category suite but the only cabins available are on Deck 8 below the pool (none available below the restaurant). I am a fairly light sleeper - any experience with the noise levels from the moving of pool furniture in the morning? What time do they usually start cleaning and moving it around?

Any thoughts on the odds of 2 cabins being upgraded to a better suite? I know there are no guarantees but I'm just asking opinions.

    Thanks

  2. I got the Marriott Stella for more than some have paid, but less than they wanted (got it for $175) and I got the Sheraton OSJ for Priceline's posted price of $219 which was better than I could get calling the hotel directly (even though I am a member of their club, whatever it is called). We really wanted to stay right in the heart of Old SJ, and I didn't know how to bid to get that specific hotel. At least I was able to save some money!

Thanks for the hints and comments OhioJeff - helped put my mind at ease!

  3. I have 2 different hotels booked in San Juan (1 pre-cruise and 1 post-cruise). Has anyone ever had any problems with a Priceline booked room? My husband wanted to just pay the full price, but Priceline saved us >$100 total - that will buy a lot of fruity drinks on the cruise ship!!! Well, maybe several....

I'm just praying nothing goes wrong with the reservations to allow him to say "I told you"....

  4. Gotcha! Thanks for the tip. My hubby was on my case to make a reservation, so I made one at the Marriott - the lowest rate I could get was $267/night + all of the taxes and resort fees which add up to 26%!!!! That puts the room <$300/night!! I guess I could keep trying to use Priceline and then cancel our original reservation? Same thing with our post-cruise stay at the Sheraton Old San Juan - the rate is tolerable, but the taxes and fees put the rate way more than I want to spend for a night that I'm not even going to be in the room very much.....
