  1. Worked like a charm!  Yesterday my first fax attempt showed an error.  Refaxed and got a confirmation it was sent successfully.  Just a couple hours later, the credit appeared.  Thanks to this posting, it was so simple.  Mary Jsne

  2. We’ve done several Atlantic crossings and one Pacific crossing.  We like all the days at sea.  Our transPacific was from Tahiti to Pitcairn to Easter Island to the west coast of S America through the Canal to Fort Lauderdale.  There were lots and lots of activities during the day - lectures, trivia, arts and crafts, wine tastings,  knitting/crocheting group, book reviews, etc.  I participated in many, but also enjoyed meeting and talking with fellow passengers, sitting quietly and reading, watching the sea, etc.  Never bored!  As we approached S America I remember a new friend commenting it would be nice to turn around and do it all again!

  3. We are Elite members.  Several years ago we were travelling on the Pacific Princess with our friends who were new to Princess.  The first couple of days, we would have them meet us at the door of any Elite activity, then we would ask someone at the door if our friends could join us even though they were not elitte.  They were always welcome.

  4. It’s been quite a few years ago, but I do remember sailing from Hawaii to Tahiti in a Deck 4 Forward cabin on the PP.  We thought it was one of the quietest locations we had ever had.  We had booked B2B and moved from Deck 4 to a balcony on Deck 7 and said several times to each other that the Deck 4 cabin was larger, had more storage and was definitely quieter.  Enjoy.

No they aren’t. As Monty has indicated. You will be asked to declare any food and if you don’t you will be fined. Nuts and cheese especially. Wrapped sweets might be ok.

Well, that ‘s interesting and good info to have.  We’ve never been to Australia and New Zealand.  We do not take anything from the ship like open nuts and cheeses, just packaged snacks.  Of course we will listen to our ship notices and follow whatever is said.  Getting arrested would not be any fun at all!

So cruisenfreak, did you not need Euros for other things like public toilets in the Mediterranean?

Yes, bap, we did need some for postcards, souvinirs, coffees at sidewalk cafes, restrooms, etc.  We don’t buy much, but we did use the credit card a few times.

We ordered 125 Euros from our credit union before we left and came home with 20 Euros.  I call that pretty good planning.

Obviously if we hadn’t used USDs for tipping, we would have needed to take more Euros.       We did  bring lots of ones and fives and I would recommend that.  At one time we wanted some extra small bills but Viking had none at that point.  Later they did and we could break larger bills for more ones and fives.

Sun had drawers in the closet on DV.  Lots of room for 2 of us on a 13 day cruise in December.

Ditto on the sun (30 days for us).  On the Sea a year ago - no drawers in the closet, but we did just fine with the three drawers below the safe, the two drawers plus shelves in the bathroom, a small drawer in each bedside table and the lift up vanity in the desk.

  8. On our recent Viking cruise in the Med, we were told we could use USDs for tips, and suggested we add a bit to our regular tip since the guides and drivers would have to convert the dollars.   We saw many fellow passengers doing the same.

That worked well for us and no one seemed disappointed to be tipped in dollars.

  9. We love the buffet which always had a wide variety of seafood including sushi.  Also they had great salads - some made to order.  And..check out what they might be grilling in the middle of the buffet area - great stuff! (Hubby is not a big eater, asked for 1/2 a steak, and it was available, grilled just right!)

We established our own routine of going to the bar behind the buffet, ordering the included beer or wine, finding something great for our own “happy hour” appetizers from the buffet, conversing with the bar staff ( who were so interesting and wonderful conversationists), and then eating dinner from the buffet.  We never went to the restaurants - not our “thing”.

  10. We are traveling in January with 2 other couples.  We could book excursions first, did so, tnen let our friends know we had gotten exactly the ones we all wanted at the times we wanted them.

Our friends contacted tellus to ask for assistance for all of us to tour together.  An immediate response suggested waiting until their designated booking day to see if their choices were available.  Then said if some were not, to contact tellus agsin and they would assust in getting us all on the same tours.  As it turned out, all our choices (tours and times) were still available, so there was no need for further assistance.

  11. We have done several “behind the scenes” tours on various lines and have always found it very, very interesting. Last year we toured the bridge on the Viking Sea and this year I will check on board to see what might be available. If it is the kitchen and/or the laundry I will sign us up, for sure.
