  1. Booked with agency that provides Gratuities via an arrangement with Oceania.

    We receive Gratuities as Gold

    Members.

Travel agent says they can't offer OBC or discount instead.

Does anyone know if Oceania will give us OBC instead of tips?

Asking here to avoid long wait on phone to O.

    Thanks, Joanne

  2. Hi Debra,

So good to hear from you.  Definitely interested in cruising with you all again.  Depends what month.  In  Feb. we are sailing from Cape Town to Singapore on Nautica.  Trivia won't be the same without our Team.

Do you still have my email?  oceania 2008 @ yahoo .com

  3. It has been several years since cruising on HAL,  been on Princess and Oceania which have great perks for frequent cruisers.  So I am wondering if there are any special things offered and hints that I should know about.  Thanks in advance.  Sailing Rotterdam in August.

  4. Yes, all the time. Everyone and cabin stewards are amazed. Even though first checked bag is free, I carry on so it arrives when I do. Don't want it taking a more fun vacation than me.

Longest cruises were Rome to Sydney on Nautica with a week in an apt. Pre cruise. Also Tahiti to Dover on Marina.

I use a hard side spinner which I use as a foot rest under the seat to relieve leg cramps. Use an expandable computer bag as my "purse".

Yes, I wear the same clothes many times, but with the laundromat, no problem. And if people notice me repeating, they have too much time on their hands. I'm vacationing, not trying to impress anyone.

    Happy sailing to all.

  5. To answer your question.

I mentioned that we were on the Grand. Maybe other ships won't offer cabin service for MDR dinner.

We were in a "steerage" cabin and that's why we were skeptical at first and asked at the front desk. When the man didn't seem to know, I called Room Service and the lady confirmed that we could do it.

Nice to know. Wouldn't hurt to ask on the other ships

  6. On the Grand:

You can order from the Dinner Menu in the MDR for delivery to your cabin, no charge. As we don't do Formal, we enjoyed the "Special" items in our cabin. Our Trivia mates shared this tip with us, thanks Rosemary & John. When we double checked at the front desk, the man didn't know about it. So we called Room Service and the nice lady confirmed it is available.

In the Buffet at dinner, there is "real" ice cream behind the dessert station. Just ask the server. Then you can go over to the ice cream station on deck and have them load it with the sauces for your own sundae, at no charge!

    Happy cruising,

    Joanne

  7. Are the San Pedrans still here?

WE are considering taking Amtrak to Union Stn. L.A.

Do you know if there is a city bus that goes to the port?

    What is the distance?

We travel light so luggage is no problem.

Would appreciate any details such as schedule, times, prices.

    thanks in advance.

  8. Hi Tika,

We stayed in the dorm rooms. Aranui 2

It's set up like a pullman train with an upper and lower berth with a curtain you can pull closed for privacy.

The showers and toilets are shared, women's and men's separate.

I don't remember who many berths there were in our dorm, but there were only about 10 pax. there so we had our choice of location, not assigned berths.

We were perfectly happy and this is one trip I would repeat.

Enjoy your trip and please post here when you return.

    Joanne

  9. Greetings,

I think the best way to explain the dorm. is they are like the old Pullman sleepers on the trains. A large room with capacity for about 30-40 people. Upper & lower bunks with a curtain you pull for privacy. There was a drawer under the bunks for your belongings. The bathrooms & showers were down the hall. It was very peaceful and quiet, no loud partiers.

On our trip there weren't very many in the dorm room, maybe a dozen, so it wasn't crowded and we felt perfectly comfortable as far as privacy. If you have stayed in Youth Hostels, it's similar but with all meals and sightseeing included.

Hope this helps. I would do the trip again, in the dorm room, if I could convince my husband to repeat.

Let me know what you decide.

    Joanne

  10. It's been 11 yearssince we were on, but I would go again in a heartbeat.

We roughed it in the cheapest dormitory like accomodations. Had a peek into the regular cabins and they are as nice as any of the mass market cabins.

We liked the food, but we are not gourmands.

Very interesting watching the cargo being loaded/unloaded in each port. All the port excursions were included and they were very enjoyable. So different from any ports we have been to. The Marquesas remind me of what Hawaii was about 75 years ago.

Staff was wonderful. I fell and cracked a rib on deck and saw the doctor, a very cute French guy, and wasn't charged.

I think if you are adventuresome you will enjoy the trip. If you decide to go and have more question, please ask. And, please post a report when you return.

    Happy cruising,

    Joanne
