  1. That's too bad. I'm in the love-the-Epic group! Have my second on her this fall. The Jade was my first NCL cruise and it's SO different from the Epic. Hopefully you'll enjoy her more! I'm actually booked on her again next year for a 14-night to Norway, Scotland, and Iceland. :D

Lol... I'm platinum, and am on the "hate the epic" side. Love NCL. The Epic didn't do it for me.

I would recommend starting off with the Breakaway or the Getaway if you want to switch products, and then try the Epic. If you go cold turkey from RCCLto NCL, start with something else than the Epic.

  2. I am not surprised at your experiences on the Getaway. We sailed on the Breakaway for two weeks in January. This was our sixth cruise with NCL and our second on the Breakaway, having sailed on her in 2014. In our opinion, service has deteriorated to the point where we will now take our cruise dollars elsewhere. We had a hard time getting drinks even when we tipped with CASH above and beyond the 18% (among numerous other issues). We don't expect perfection, but we work too hard for our money and there are many other cruise line choices. I think NCL lures passengers in with "freebies" to fill the ships, but cares less and less about customer satisfaction and retention. What a shame.

    i also agree.

  3. Have they?

Yup. On our last cruise, we happened to witness a man that ... Well... Had an impressive appetite.

The only reason I know is be caused he voiced his discontent very clearly, to the point of having the Maitre D' intervene.

Lo and behold... It was written in black and white on the menu. No extras. But then again, there's no way I can even finish the regular serving.

To this day, I still can't figure out how one person could possibly wolf down extra appetizers / desserts in one seating without remembering a scene from a Monty Python movie

  4. Scott6444 you must be of same vintage as me. We raised four kids on everything including PB.

Consider this.......a recovering alcoholic bourds a plane and requests fight attendant that they not serve alcohol because it will cause him great anxiety and it will relapse him to drinking. Where does it end, where does one take responsibility for themselves?

What kind of a comparison is that? I also understand the point you are trying to make, but it cannot be compared. Period.

Btw I will admit to the fact that too many people declare themselves allergic to this and that, which complicates things.

But confirmed allergies by allergists are indeed very serious and life threatening. It's not just a case of feeling ill.

To answer your question "where does it end, where does one take responsibility for themselves"... You had the answer when you were on that plane and you were asked to not eat your Snickers bar.

At that precise moment, the woman sitting in front of you was taking responsibility for herself.

  5. I am sure that this has been answered, so please share link, if so.

Have a Dawn cruise coming up in June and 100+ days out, how soon can you begin making restaurant reservations online through MyNCL?

Is there a limit on size of party?

Is there still a discount on the first night?

    We have UBP.

Have my wife's 40th birthday on the day we sail, with a large group trying to get into specialty restaurant.

    Thanks for help.

Hi! 90 days out, here's the link:

  6. Yes, you should do!

The Epic missed Civitchevvechia (sp) at the beginning of Feb. No automatic refund on board and some of us are having issues getting a refund from head office now we're home.

Very poor customer service so far.

Hi! Not wanting to be a troll... But a quick question since the opportunity arose! I was on the same cruise as you and am facing same issue. I was also told no refund for Civitavecchia, please take up issue with Headquarters upon disembarkation...

How did you proceed? I understand that we missed the port but do not understand the principle of not having the port charges automatically reimbursed.

    Thanks for any info!

  7. They took the pizza's off the menu, they are no longer available!

Must be recent? We disembarked February 14th from the Epic and we had it several times onboard. I loved it so much I asked for the recipe!

    That's a pity:rolleyes:... It was so good!

    Thanks for the info!

  8. Extra, yum!!!

Oh, and if you like pizza - they serve this pizza called capricciosa (or something near that). DH and I loved it. It was so good! We got into the habit of ordering a small one for the both of us. But please take note - it's for garlic lovers!

  9. My son's favorite at La Cucina was the dish simply called "Meatballs". It was rigatoni with marinara sauce and a few meatballs. Looking at the updates menu, I'm not seeing it. Am I missing it? Is there something similar?

Hi! Sorry I don't have menu pics but it was available in January onboard the Epic.

  10. What is going on with this new NCL?

It's ok to cancel a cruise but they should honor the perks given. But that is just my opinion. I totally agree with OP - the perks should follow.

I found galensgrl observation to express my exact thoughts about my last cruise.

You are right about cruise lines keeping their loyal customers happy. DH and I had several wonderful cruises with NCL. Good times, lots of fun, NCL was our cruise line. Then our last cruise left a lot to be desired. A lot of things were just "off." When we very nicely let our concerns be known, we were treated very poorly. The attitude was pretty much like "Oh well, you get what you get and there's nothing we can do about it." The staff on the ship seemed very stressed out and unhappy, blatantly so. There was obvious tension among some of the staff...

It was a very weird and unhappy atmosphere on that particular cruise. Oh, and the food wasn't good, even in the pay restaurants. So that cruise alone put us off from NCL..

After that we decided we were going to try other cruising options.

    Lorie

    Well said!

Will keep on reading the post for final outcome to OP's request. Good luck!

  11. I booked the cruise on 2/14. My credit card has "cancel for any reason" so I'll probably get reimbursed for the full cost (including Fcc because that was on the credit card too).

And I was being totally sarcastic about "I should have gone..."

I'm just annoyed that since I really didn't use the FCC it wasn't put back in my account.

I'm 66 and never had the flu before. But, since I just finished radiation treatment for breast cancer, the last thing I would want to do is feel crappy with a relapse, even if I had felt better by Sunday morning.

I do hope you feel better soon, the flu is unpleasant and it must be doubly so if you've just finished treatment.

Rest and try forget about whatever price difference you might have lost. It's just money - your health is more important! But I do understand your frustration.

Wishing you a great next cruise wherever and hopefully some time soon.

  12. I tend to agree with OP, and I'm glad to see that moral support is given on the thread.

I had a very bad experience several years back on a specific ship, and I must say that it was never fixed onboard, it went up the corporate ladder, and it took time. A lot of time.

They eventually recognized the mistake, which is all I wanted. A monetary compensation was useless to me. An official apology and the promise that certain procedures would be changed made the pill easier to swallow.

I'm really sorry to hear that you had a bad experience, and I hope you'll have a great cruise on another ship / cruise line. I truly understand your angst.

    Happy future sailings!
  13. Hi! I would urge you to go on the Roll Call of your cruise and ask if anyone would be interested in taking pics of the two of you. I'm sure someone will be happy to help! Or have a romantic dinner and have the photograph take a picture of you! They are always around taking pictures of guests at mealtimes.

Don't worry about not having a symbolic ceremony. We were supposed to get married onboard January 25th but found the value for money to be ridiculous.

In retrospect was the best decision we made. No fretting over the wedding dress. We booked a pleasant dinner in a specialty and ordered champagne.

    Good luck!
