  1. How many packs of cigs. Can u bring on board or is it cheaper to buy them on board?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

It depends on your brand. Most major brands can be purchased on board. I haven' seen a limit on the amount you take on a cruise, but, customs only allows you one carton (200 cigs) when you disembark

  2. Along similar lines, another suggestion is to not say 'we'll travel when we retire'. Don't do that to yourselves if you can help it. Travel as young and as soon as you possibly can. Go when your health is good, your legs are strong, you don't care whether the bed is all the comfortable and you have stamina to sightsee for hours.

My DH and I did that and I am now so grateful we made 20+ trips to Europe, vacationed all over the U.S., traveled to so many Caribbean resorts, enjoyed more than 90+ cruises.

DH did not live to retire. He passed away 7 weeks ago.

I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to know I was always ready to pack our bags and travel multiple times a year with him.

We started our travel staying in middle of the road hotels, did some package tours and as we had more funds, we became more independent travelers and stayed in the lovely hotels. All of it was wonderful. We loved each and every trip. :)

Don't wait. Go as soon as you are able.

I am sorry for your Loss, but glad to hear that you were left with so many memories.

Hopefully in time, you'll make more memories.

  3. I am going on a cruise in Nov 2014 and just booked the cruise.

NOW I get to do a spreadsheet. I love spreadsheets. Any day now I should be starting my spreadsheet. LOL

I built my spreadsheet on Excel.

    Columns for

1)Date, Port, Excursion, Blank area for notes if we find something in the Daily

Planner that we want to do.

    2) Color coded for Sea Days

You can use any headers that you want.

Attach to cabin wall with a magnet.

  4. Mary, It blows my mind too! True story: SIL booked an Alaska cruise late last December because a co-worker wanted her and her husband to go with them. She told me about the cruise and BIL said, I though we decided not to go? I guess she decided they were.

I'm all excited for them because this is their first cruise. So I ask, what ship, what ports, etc, etc. She knew nothing but that it was in June and, they leave from Seattle! I'm not kidding. She pulls a magnet off the refrigerator and says this is the ship. It was Rhapsody of the Sea and I knew that was Royal Caribbean even though I've never sailed on them! I was more curious than her and looked up her cruise.

Fast forward to this week and their adult daughter (our sweet niece who lives near Seattle) was in the area and came over to visit us. Niece tells me she is going to Victoria for a couple of days with her parents just before the cruise. They picked Victoria instead of Vancouver because her Mom said they are going to Vancouver on the cruise. LOL...they are going to Victoria...on Vancouver Island. There is OCD planning and there is ostrich in the sand approach!

I'm sure my SIL and BIL will have a great time but it would be much more stressful to me to do it their way!

Me too. I have had friends that within a week of their cruise, don't even know the name of their ship, only that it is Carnival, Norwegian, etc. One couple didn't know that they could (should) check-in online, luggage tags, passport info etc. They thought you just book the cruise, pay for it and get on ship. I help them with the on-line 6 days before their sail date.

It just Blows my mind too.

I need to stop reading this thread or I'll keep posting, because I'M A PLANNER.

Sorry for the 3 post, but I just couldn't help it. LOL

  5. OCD is not really healthy. Not something I would want to get involved with. I book a cruise. Book my excursions and extras, then enjoy the cruise. The point is to get away and relax, not to be stressed out and obsessive about the vacation.

I saved over $1500 on our SA cruise by checking, checking, checking and finding a price drop on another online cruise site. My online TA got us the price drop. I'm ALWAYS looking.

  6. I have everything in a binder starting from precruise hotel; airplane

cruise docs; all shore excursions in order with the funds for each one all the way to the plane home... even pack accordingly too.

    Cathy

Well, happy to see I'm not the only one. LOL

I also put the port funds in an envelope marked for each port.

I have a binder for each port with info about that port city.

I make a spreadsheet (for the wall) with the port, excursions and an area for notes.

Booking the cruise is the easy part, but the planning is soooooo much fun, but also a lot of work.

  7. You can find your ship's docking location on this list:

    http://www.oslohavn.no/no/?template=cruise_list_no

If you're docking at Akershuskai or Vippetangen, the Akershus fortress will be right next to your ship. If you're at Revierkaia, you'll be on the opposite side of the peninsula, but still quite close.

If you happen to be docking at Filipstad, you'd have a 15-20 minute walk back into town unless you catch a bus from one of the stops outside the port area.

The Tram #12 stops outside the fortress (near the city hall) and in front of Vigelands Park, so it's a convenient option for traveling between the two. And since you're above ground, you can see some of the historic residential area on the west side of the city center. Alternatively, it's a 5-minute walk past the city hall up to the Nationaltheatret subway stop, and you can take it one stop to Majorstuen, which is about 10-15 minutes from the main park entrance.

FYI - The different port locations and tram line are both marked on the map in my signature.

    Thanks for the link

  8. Sorry to hijack....what are your opinions of the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Resort? It's on the beach and relatively close to the Port

We stayed at Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina, (not the resort) before our cruise in September. There were mixed reviews, but we decided to stay there anway. We booked the "WATER VIEW - MARINA TOWER ROOM- BALCONY" We looked at 3 rooms before our Bellman "Joel" fought to find us the PERFECT room. From our room, we could see the main waterway, the intercoastal waterways, the Water Taxi stop, yachts, and around 2 am the morning of our cruise, we woke up to see the lights of our ship Oasis ease into port. What an exciting moment. When we woke up the next morning, there she was. From our balcony we could see her right from our room. If you stay there in the Tower, make sure that you stay on the 10th floor or above facing the draw bridge. We also would sit on our balcony and watch the traffic on the bridge stop as the bridge raised. We didn't eat at the hotel, but we were there 2 days before our cruise and spend most of our time out and about.

  9. We were on Oasis in September and I was totally surprised at their perks. I am the slot layer in my family :-). We did a b2b and on the 2nd leg, I received cash back from 1st leg and that totally surprised me. Be sure and ALWAYS have your card inserted because you get CASH for points. My DH also received drink tickets, (I guess they wanted to keep him happy too, so I could keep playing.) :).

    I also received:

*1 Casino Royale Polo shirt in the color of my choosing (also one for DH)

*UNLIMITED drink tickets (We had tickets left over)

    * No 5% casino cash surcharge (free)

    *lifetime status of VIP

*Entry for a contest for a free cruise.

    *Free tickets for nightly drawings

(If you play, don't hesitate to ask for more drink tickets if you need them.)

    Have fun and WIN!
