  1. Our son proposed to his girlfriend in Central Park on the Oasis in 2012. Her engagement ring, which he had made, wasn't going to be finished in time for him to take on the cruise. So, the day they were to fly to Florida, he went and bought at cheap round ring to use. He was pretty sad he didn't have the real thing. On the formal night he was going to propose, he didn't have scissors, so he tried to pull the tag off with his hands. Well, that didn't go very well and it actually bent the ring into a heart shape. When he proposed to her and gave her the ring, she was so excited and thought the ring was the best ever! She put it on her finger and wore it for the entire cruise.....tag and all. When they arrived home, the next day he gave her the real engagement ring. She still has the heart shaped ring. By the way, this lovely couple is expecting their second baby in March. Grandma and Grandpa are very excited!

  2. Our Feb. 2018 Navigator sailing was cancelled in Jan. 2017, extremely well in advance. I felt very fortunate we were informed this early. It was the first time we had ever lost a cruise due to a charter. Even though we had a 13 months advance notice, being rookies at this, we went into panic mode. RCCL offered us two sailing dates on the Freedom, very close to our originial sailing date on the Navigator, which we immediately grabbed. I can't even imagine what people go through when they receive notices very close to their sailing date.

  3. After reading this thread, I decided to check my status. I'm Diamond Plus, but it said I was Pre-Gold with Zero points, yet all of my past cruises were listed. Same scenario as OP. I went into my account, as was recommended, and looked at my gender status. Well, I apparently have no gender. I clicked female, and immediately all of my points and Diamond Status were back. Something finally worked for me on the very first try on their wonderful website......maybe I'll play the lottery!

  4. I would have really enjoyed talking with him!

You truly would have, Bob. This gentleman, Bill, was in a group of six people we met in the DL. They invited my husband and I to join them. Nicest group of people you could ever meet, and they were so down to earth. One of the other men in the group owned a hospital. We sat with them whenever we were all in the DL and had so much fun with them. Bill had a great sense of humor, but usually didn't say too much. One night he was talking more, and we asked him what he did. When he said he was a retired Rocket Scientist, of course we laughed......we didn't believe him. After all, when was the last time you met a Rocket Scientist? Well, we certainly had met one, and he was so good about us not believing him. He said that's the usual response he gets. By the way, they were all soon to become Pinnacle. We found this out by asking them, otherwise I don't believe they would have ever mentioned it.

  5. On a Disney Cruise we teamed up in trivia with a woman my age (33) and her husband. It just so happened that she turned out to have been my pen pal on the DIS teen forum (a Disney fan forum) back when we were 16-17. It was shocking!!!!!!

Wow, that's pretty cool! When you think of so many scenarios that would have to have taken place, it's unbelieveable your paths crossed! It was meant to be. I guess we never know what's held in store for us when we sail and meet so many wonderful people.

  6. I thought this might be a fun topic. Who has been the most interesting person you have ever met on a cruise, and why? For us, it was a gentleman who was a retired Rocket Scientist, involved with working on the O-ring problems on the Space Shuttles. Such a wonderful man who was extremely intelligent. We enjoyed all of his stories. We've met many whom have had an amazing story, but this person stands out amongst them all.

  7. Serenade is one of our favorite ships. We are with you in reference to the Centrum music, though. I've never understood why it has to be so very, very loud. They have extremely talented musicians and vocalists, but wouldn't it sound just as good with normal volume? That being said, I also think the theater shows are extremely loud, too.

  8. Thanks for your review. We love the Serenade and the aft cabins. We did a B2B again this year and had corner aft cabin 8168. We grab the corners whenever we can. We have this cabin reserved again for 2020. You are so correct about the sun, though,...we sure had a lot of it on our balcony.....but we still love it. We have always had such great service from everyone on this ship. All the crew members are wonderful.....we've never had any complaints at all. And you are so right, eating breakfast or lunch in the Windjammer, people should always go sit outside......it's beautiful out there. Great ship, especially when you are looking for a longer cruise.

  9. The debacle was an extra drydock scheduled after people had already booked cruises. Adventure had a drydock in the fall of 2016 but it could not be fully completed because a hurricane at the time affected delivery of supplies. Subsequently they scheduled another drydock for January/February 2018 even though people already had reservations for those dates. Booked passengers were given compensation in the form of onboard credit for a future cruise, along with reimbursement for airline change fees. They were also given a list of sailings on the Adventure of the Seas and Jewel of the Seas in January through April where they could rebook with price protection - meaning they would get the same class room for the same price as originally paid if the current price on the new cruise was higher. This all happened with about 9 months notice.

This will not affect your cruise other than that you will be on a nicely refurbished ship.

Oh my goodness, quite the debacle for sure! Thanks for explaining this to me. I guess Mother Nature can wreak havoc on anything she wants to. I hope everything worked out for all the affected cruisers....what a nightmare to deal with!

  10. Thank you for your help, it’s looking like 8168, can anyone help with if there is any shade on this balcony, I like sun & my husband likes the shade!!

It all depends upon which way the ship is sailing and the position of the sun. We did both the Southern and Eastern sailings, and it seemed like we had so much more sun than shade. Whenever the sun was above or behind the ship, we got full sun. The overhang is only about 3-4 feet. There were times we could sit on the table and chairs if we had them right next to the cabin divider, as that area was in the shade. This didn't deter us from loving this cabin.....we have it reserved again for a 2020 B2B.

  11. 8168 has a balcony that wraps around to the side. It's pretty narrow, though, in the wrap around part. We did a B2B in February in this cabin and loved the location. We also had the best ever cabin steward, Clinton! The balcony had two lounge chairs, two regulars chairs, a pub table and a low table. There was actually too much furniture out there. We ended up moving some of it into the wrap around part of the balcony just to get it out of the way. You won't be disappointed in this cabin.....we loved it!
