  1. P&O's Oriana, 1969, San Francisco to Sydney. Best memories are of the sailways with streamers and confetti and the Bon Voyage parties where

everyone could come aboard. As a start to that trip, a couple that was our best friends missed the last going ashore and were still aboard as left the dock.

I still remember the Captain's look of displeasure (to say the least) when it was arranged for them to leave on the pilot boat. It was

also my only look at first class since we were in cabin class. We called ourselves "back of the boat people." It was certainly a different time.

  2. Does anyone have information about the F category cabins aft - main deck on the Prinsendam? They are next to a lot of white space. I'm doing my usual obssessing about cabin selection, but since it's the grand south america for 68 days just want to know as much possible. Any information very much appreciated.

We had a great cabin on Rotterdam TA/Baltic last spring and I spent hours looking at Joanie's cabin information and pictures. What a great source of information - many thanks!!:):)

  3. NB: No need to tip for room service. It is an included dining option onboard. You can if you want, but is not necessary for those who might think this is expected or required. it is not.

You are right. It is included, but we have always gotten such nice service, particularly early in the morning that I usually do tip (but not always). Thanks for posting. I know there are a lot of posts about tipping and I wouldn't want to have someone think that tipping is expected or required. Just something I do.

  4. We hang one over the bathroom door...facing the hallway. Comes in very handy...especially for tips for room service...I order coffee too early in the AM to have to go searching for a tip!

Great suggestion for using it for tips. I can't remember how times I've fumbled around early in the morning hunting for money!! Too embarassing. Sailing in 25 days and will certainly put my tip $$ in there. Thanks.

  5. I think the baskets are a great idea. My DH just about covers every horizontal surface with "stuff". The dollar store has some cloth cubes that I bought. They're pretty flimsy, but don't plan on taking them home. They will take up very little space and weigh almost nothing.

Question about stick-on hooks. Do the rubber/plastic ones work or would it be better to get the removeable ones? Thanks.

  6. Used a hard-sided suitcase that opened flat for shoe storage under the bed. Just pull it out and all the shoes are right there. With 3 women sharing a cabin - we had a lot of shoes!! Much easier to find than putting them into closet or trying to fit into hanging shoe bag.

For Alaska cruise bought a pair of BASS rubber-soled leather boat shoes. They were terrific for wearing on the boat as well as land tours. Too cold for me to wear sandals and find hiking shoes/boots too heavy or hot.

Next cruise will pack fewer shoes, though - (or maybe not).

Thanks for all the really great ideas.:)
