Since you already booked with a non-refundable rate, why worry about the next sale?  You are pretty much stuck with what you have, for better or worse.

We can still change to a higher cabin category. Just not sure if we should switch now or wait and see whether prices come down a bit 😉

I am not sure anybody will know when the next sale is. But if you book, and one comes along, why not re-fare or cancel and re-book?

We have a non refundable fare booked, so wouldn’t be able to cancel and rebook.

We got a good rate, so can only “upgrade” from here on

  3. Hey, does anyone have any idea what the next sale is?? Would it have reduced pricing? The current sale finishes on the 28 February. We are currently booked in a fully obstructed oceanview cabin guarantee for Alaska but would like to change to a balcony cabin. Not sure if we should switch now or wait. It’d be a balcony guarantee

When we originally booked for our early September 2017 cruise, we were told that we would visit Mendenhall first to spend as much time (within reason) at the park and then take a bus to Auke Bay for the whale watch.  I believe the entire tour was to last something like 4 hours.  When we arrived (1:30pm tour), plans had changed and we went on the whale watch first, spent more time than we were supposed to on the water (no complaints as we saw a lot of whales!) and then was bussed to Mendenhall.  We could spend as much time as we wanted there but the last JWW tour bus back into town was at 6pm - after that and we would have to take a cab.

We were able to hike to Nugget Falls and spent quite a bit of time there.  Orginally was planning on staying later but wife got hungry so we grabbed the last JWW bus back and had dinner at Tracy's.  I think we spent an hour and a half at the park

But I guess it all depends on which portion of the excursion you take first.......

That is a great help. The photos are stunning.

    Thanks for the feedback!

  5. Hello, we are looking into the possibility of doing the 5 Glacier flightseeing in Juneau. I see the cruiseline has this option.  I see Wing airways gets great reviews. We are looking for other local operator recommendations so we can compare prices.

  6. We are set on going to the glacier for the walks an sights. It looks like Mendenhall Glacier is open until late. But apparently it can take up to an hour one way if you are travelling during the 5-6 rush hour. Dog sledding isn't a must but thought if we have time to do both, we could but it seems we would be pushing it. Unless we do glacier flightseeing with dog sledding, however that is pricey 😜 Thoughts?

  8. Hi, I notice HAL has two dog sledding tours for Juneau, with a price difference of $10pp. Has anyone been on either tour? What were your experiences?

    Cheers

SLED DOG DISCOVERY & MUSHER'S CAMP
Visit a musher's camp to experience a true Alaskan adventure and support the state sport of dog mushing. You will have a blast on an authentic dog sled ride, meeting and learning from knowledgeable mushers and dog handlers, and playing with the husky puppies.

Your journey begins with a scenic drive deep into the Tongass National Rain Forest on Douglas Island. At the camp, you will be greeted by a musher and a team of Alaskan huskies who seem like they're about to burst with excitement because they know that, once you board the custom-designed wheeled summertime training sled, they get to run. Feel the thrill of being pulled by these strong huskies, and soak in the inspiring beauty as you race down a one-mile trail surrounded by giant spruce and hemlock trees.

After your ride, meet up with a knowledgeable dog handler and a retired sled dog. Together they will demonstrate the impeccable care sled dogs receive from their mushers and veterinarians.

Walk across the suspension bridge overlooking Fish Creek and step into Alaska's wilderness.

Enjoy an interactive presentation about the adventurous races and the equipment required for dog sledding. And last, but certainly not least, meet the adorable husky puppies. The attention you give them is important because it helps to socialize them, and this is essential to their future athletic success.

    DOG SLED SUMMER CAMP
Learn what it takes to be a musher in the great Iditarod dog sled race with a trip to a dog sled camp. See an exact replica of an Iditarod Race checkpoint, enjoy a thrilling ride behind a team of highly trained Alaskan huskies, then meet and pet adorable camp puppies.

Your adventure begins as you embark on a breathtaking motor coach ride into the remote and scenic Sheep Creek Valley, and to the home of some of the state’s most famous athletes - the huskies that run in the Iditarod. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a real Iditarod musher and his dog team. You’ll tour the camp, visit the replica of an Iditarod Race checkpoint, and go through the steps each musher performs, as if you’re traveling the route with him. Then you’ll climb aboard a comfortable wheeled sled and relax as your husky team whisks you along the 1.5-mile trail through the beautiful landscape. Returning to camp, you’ll get to visit with the dogs, pet the puppies and learn what it's like to live amid 120 happy huskies.

  9. Hello, we are finally doing an Alaska cruise in May next year (yippee!!) and we would like to go dog sledding in Juneau. We are in port 1pm to 9pm - I see the sun does not set until late, would it be possible to do the dog sledding tour before going to Mendenhall glacier? We were thinking of going to Tracy's Crab Shack as well.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
