  1. We have done two Alaskan cruises, one in June, one in September. The weather was better on the September cruise but of course that is unpredictable

As everyone else has said, layers are the best way to go. I took lightweight hiking boots for excursions and Toms for around the ship (daytime).

This is one outfit, the vest is from Eddie Bauer.

This is the coat I bought from REI, it is waterproof and was great, not bulky but kept me warm and dry on this whale watching excursion

  2. Mentally ill people exist all over the world, there is only an epidemic of mass shootings here in USA .

Mentally ill people are more likely to harm themselves than others, my daughter works with mentally ill patients.

Apparently, this gunmen is former military.

Finally, let's wait for all of the facts to emerge before jumping to conclusions.

  3. So, I am packed, had mani/pedi this morning, haircut and eyebrow wax this afternoon!

Went to Target and picked up some mosquito repellant and some other bits and pieces.

Cruise documents printed and in folder with passport.

Camera ready, batteries charged, memory cards empty.

    Meds already to go.

Will post pics when we return!!

It's been a whirlwind couple of days but excting!

  4. Very last minute - we booked yesterday evening and we sail on Sunday. Yes it leaves from Seattle so no flight involved.

New cruise line for us too, we have only ever sailed RCI and this time it is Holland America.

Still having health issues, but for now at least done with all the tests/visits/scans etc.

  5. I haven't posted here in quite a while, I have been dealing with some health issues.

owever, we have just done something we have never done before, booked a last minute cruise, we sail on Sunday LOL! Alaska.

So, instead of the usual planning that goes into my cruise clothes, I will have to get everything done tomorrow and Saturday, including hair and mani/pedi

We did cruise Alaska last year so I do have a good idea of what I want to take and I do have the layers, however, health issues have meant I put on a few pounds and some things are fitting as they should.

    Watch this space;)

  6. We haven't been on many cruises but the worst seas we have faced so far was last year on Rhapsody sailing to Alaska.

I don't know how big the waves were, they weren't huge. I do know that we went upto Windjammer for breakfast, and I had to come straight back down to our cabin , we have a lower deck cabin for a reason:)

I took dramamine and lay ont he bed and stayed there until dinner time. I missed the M & M :(

That was the second day. I told my husband I wouldn't cruise again, but the rest of week was fine and we are embarking on our next cruise in a few days.

  7. My husband booked our first cruise just about 3 weeks out.

He booked it as a surprise for me. He wasn't going to tell me about it at all, he was just going to have my then 18 years old daughters pack some clothes for:)

As it happened I discovered the "secret" about three days before and had chance to get my hair cut, have a manicure and pack my own clothes LOL!

    That was in 2007.

We have cruised a couple more times since but have booked months in advance.

  8. Hi Sherri,

I have barely been able to drag myself away from computer for the past two days since I came across your review of FOS Eastern Caribbean.

I read all of that review and then just had to read this one.

Thank you for sharing your adventures, exploits and experiences in one of the most entertaining reviews I have read.

I would love to be on the same cruise as you one of these days!

  9. Great find, and very elegant dress.

I would keep it simple and elegant, strappy evening sandals, (I usually bring strappy evening sandals that will work for multiple outfits), some jewelry, evening purse.

I can't see the embellisments very well, but I think I would probably choose yellow gold jewelry, necklace and bracelet.

    Black or gold shoes/purse.

  10. My evening dresses go into the garment bag with my husband's tux. I usally hang my long gowns on two hangers. Hang it normally, then I put the bottom part over another hanger.

I wil upload a photo either later or tomorrow.

I hang them in my closet this way, then when we pack just take them out with both hangers and put them on top of H's tux. As soon as our luggage arrives in the cabin, I hang the dresses - never had a problem so far.

I have to go out shopping right now but will take some photos later or tomorrow.

  11. Indiana Pandora is a jewlery brand, you may have senn ads for the charm bracelet which is very popular. This is the second Pandora cruise, and the first I will have been on. Basically, Pandora have a block booking on the ship and there will be events onboard for people that are part of the Pandora group.

I received my first Pandoa bracelet as a gift from my daughter 4 years ago and became hooked on the charms. I now work at a Pandora store and have several more bracelets :)
