    Dear Esteemed Guest,

We hope this letter finds you well. Your arrival to Mumbai is fast approaching, and as promised, we are sharing today details on your hotel accommodations in Mumbai from 10 February until 14 February, when you’ll embark on Silver Moon and the immersive excursions available for you to experience in this historic and electrifying city.

Upon arrival to Mumbai on 10 February, you will stay at the acclaimed xxxxxxxxx , where you’ll enjoy 5-star accommodations overlooking Marine Drive or “Queen’s Necklace,” the city’s most famous promenade offering dazzling, panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. We trust you will find this elegant property with its serene décor and spacious contemporary ambiance boasting sophisticated dining and impeccable service, reflective of the seamless ultra-luxury experience you expect from Silversea.

Previously you were assigned to the Oberoi Hotel Mumbai, however they did not have the availability to extend your stay until 14 February. Therefore for your convenience we reallocated you to the Trident Hotel in order for you to remain at the same property until embarkation, and to avoid having to move hotels during your stay.

A Silversea hospitality desk will be available in the lobby to assist you with any needs.

During your stay you’ll find a reservation form for the exciting tour programs we have arranged for in Mumbai during the dates of 11 – 13 February. You will not be able to pre-reserve but can easily make your selections once at the hotel and drop the form with the Silversea hospitality desk. Destination team members will also be on hand to answer any questions as well as assist with reserving a private car or van, at additional cost. Here is a brief overview of the included excursions (one tour per guest per day) we are excited for you to consider in Mumbai:

    BOM-A Mumbai Panorama (2 hrs.) - Available to reserve on February 11th, 12th & 13th

    BOM-D A Day in Mumbai (7 hrs.) - Available to reserve on February 12th & 13th

Next, visit the Crawford Market, where Rudyard Kipling's family cottage still stands. Leaving the market, proceed for a buffet lunch at your hotel before heading out for Mani Bhavan, Gandhi's Bombay base from 1917 to 1934. It is now a permanent museum and memorial to the Mahatma.

    BOM-E Mumbai's Jewish Heritage (3.5 hrs.) - Available to reserve on February 12th & 13th

For guests who have reserved their air arrangements through Silversea, a representative will meet you at the airport for transfer to the Trident Hotel; please look for the Silversea team member designated with a sign who will greet you after you exit the terminal building from Gate B.

For those guests who have arranged their air independently, please ensure you secure and coordinate your transportation to the xxxxxxx hotel on 10 February.

All guests will have their Mumbai hotel accommodations updated to MySilversea within the next few days. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your Travel Advisor or Cruise Consultant.

Thank you for your continued understanding of the circumstances that necessitated the delay to the start of your voyage. We hope you join our excitement for the enriching discovery of Mumbai and the unforgettable adventure that awaits aboard Silver Moon.

    Best personal regards,

    Silversea

We are also flying down from Delhi, probably on the same plane.  I will probably do the shorter 2 hour drive in the afternoon and two of the 4 hour excursions on the following two days.  I am not sure I can cope with the local trains, but we'll see.  Having slept on it, it doesn't seem too bad.  I will just make sure I have a good book and my swimming costume to relax on the rooftop pool area which looks perfect.

There is no mention of a transfer from the hotel to the ship, have you heard anything about who is providing this?

It was interesting that the excursions for the first two ports of call, whilst available for booking yesterday, have been removed again.  Not sure why.

The uninspiring Mumbai excursion can only be booked in resort. Love the one where one of the highlights is Marine drive, and i have been allocated the Trident on Marine drive, go figure. My onboard excursions have all been added for the new schedule. So looking positive for cruise element

Can you clarify, excursions are included but are you saying you booked upcharge ones, similar to how Regent does it?

Three types of excursions, "Included" , you are allow one per day per passenger free of charge ( can take a second but will be charged) A couple can do two different ones. "Select " these are chargeable and tend to be more upmarket with meals, and finally Private tour, this a private car tour with guide and you pick where to go, this  chargeable.

Please be realistic and not overly optimistic.  It has been stated this is wedding season in India.  There probably weren’t 300-400 rooms available for three or four consecutive nights at the Oberon!  You know you have confirmed hotel accommodation, meals and tours.  Just let yourselves be surprised by what unfolds when you get there.  No, you probably won’t have the same daily value.  More likely, definitely not.  Remember this is not Silversea’s fault.  They didn’t choose to take the ship the long way round to reach Mumbai.  They could have cancelled the cruise all together, citing the perils of rocket attacks, and left you all to claim on your travel insurance.

I do hope you have great tours and a good trip overall.

I am pragmatic and realistic, there is nothing i can do but accept situation, no other options provided by SSea.  Yes i am going to get my cruise albeit shortened. Whilst i cannot blame SS for geopolitical situation. Ii can express dissatisfaction with value for money. I purchased an expensive product. Unfortunately i find myself in the Trident which isn't comparable with being on board ship or Oberoi (where i was). Therefore  I feel I am bearing the financial /value loss, not SSea. They are inflicting their losses onto me. no doubt they have already invoked their business interruption insurance and  penciled in losses into their tax return  They are multinational corporation with deep pockets. BTW haven't offered any compensation or option to cancel. I cannot afford to lose tens of thousands if i cancel (uk insurance does not cover "not inclined to travel"). If they had cancelled they would have had to refund my costs, which would have given me choices of my own making!

Please do always keep in mind that all your concerns are nothing compared to the misery of all the people (Israeli , habitants of Gaza, People in Ukraine etc…)who are currently suffering  from a war. All of your problems are luxury problems. Sorry but I just like to put things in

perspective. Don’t let anyone take this personal.

i think we all can relate to geopolitical situation in the world and the various conflicts not only those you mention, there are other trouble spots in the world like Sudan we don.t know about but me or any others not comparing notes on a trip we have paid 1000's for will prevent further suffering. The old adage there is always someone is worse off is no consolation.

  6. terry, if you look in bookings , then booking details you will see hotel allocation, and transfers from hotel to ship. definitely back to "sound of silence", I have reread the official notification, ""and follow up separately closer to your arrival date with the exciting selection of destination experiences that will be made available to you during your stay in Mumbai"". There is nothing about onboard excursions.

Appreciate these added details that focus on the Taj Mahal (I assume in their more tourist-focused "Tower") and at the Trident hotel.  As of this morning here in the U.S., our MySilversea is still showing "17 days" till our cruise starts in Mumbai and not allowing us to book and update excursions.

Nothing showing for hotels and/or any other details as to the offerings for these three days of promised Silversea "luxury" in Mumbai.  No added emails or updates this morning after Tuesday's initial notification.

Are we back into the Simon & Garfunkel "Sounds of Silence" zone?

Assume that Silversea is still playing "catch up" to finalize many details, options.  But, how long should we wait and be patient to learn the details and have the SS system up and back working properly for excursions?  We leave Feb. 5 for our private, pre-cruise tour of the "Golden Triangle".  Others depart sooner for India.

    THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

terry, if you look in bookings , then booking details you will see hotel allocation, and transfers from hotel to ship. definitely back to "sound of silence",   i emailed by ss rep and haven't even had an acknowledgement. but there is diddly squat we can do but grin and bear.

  8. Waiting to see what SS are doing for excursions both for Mumbai and the rest of the cruise. I have emailed my SS rep as per the "official" notification and haven't had a curtsey of a reply. All my tours wiped out on Mysilversea. I wonder how long will we have to wait.

  9. As other have suggested an extra three days in Mumbai t is not comparable to being on a luxury cruise ship. It would appear ss are not offering compensation. I am waiting to see the finer detail, as they say devil in detail. What is the food and beverage package ( lets not hope it is not buffet style meals). Previously booked into Oberoi pre cruise now moved to lessor Trident.  Wondering what they are doing about excursions, not only Mumbai but rest of cruise, Mysilversea shows all my booked ones have been wiped, including where ship matches original voyage. What is unforgiveable is the lack of communication. To me luxury is the whole package , it does not stop and finish on the ship. I will make best of trip and enjoy the fight with SS on some form of discount.

  10. from SSea yesterday " Due to unforeseen geopolitical situations that have constrained Silver Moon’s ability to navigate through the south Red Sea from its previous voyage, the ship had to reposition back to Europe through the Suez Canal and is now circumnavigating Africa in the lead-up to your voyage, regrettably delaying arrival in Mumbai until 14 February 2024.

In light of this, we have arranged 3-night luxury hotel accommodations, reflective of Silversea standards, and enriching and immersive excursions in Mumbai for you to enjoy with embarkation on Silver Moon, now scheduled for 9 a.m., 14 February. Our Destination Management team will communicate in the next few days, update your booking with hotel details, and follow up separately closer to your arrival date with the exciting selection of destination experiences that will be made available to you during your stay in Mumbai. All transfers will be adjusted accordingly. Silversea will provide meals during your stay in Mumbai and will have representatives available to assist you with any needs."     Would appear that the hotel is the Trident. No other details

The email reads very much as I expected.  For circumstances beyond their control, Silversea has done a good job.  Along with other cruise lines, they will have lost a lot of money having to relocate the ship, and without paying passengers.  Probably claiming on their insurance now!

My heart bleeds for a large multi national corporation which wouldn't blink to screw over their customers given a chance.  And to be sure they have made arrangements that suit their pockets and not for the benefit of the customer.

  12. Rather lose the discussion in a long thread on timing of journey around Africa as we now know the Moon will arrive on the 14th Feb. I have checked mySilversea and note that they have moved my pre-cruise hotel from the Oberoi to the Trident. Reviews suggest this is a lower standard hotel. Disappointing but hey ho s**t happens and is a reasonable  hotel and doubt i can do anything about it.  Waiting to be formally advised of change plus other details.

  13. A poster on another site has stated that they have been informed that SSea will be publish a formal communication regard Mumbai to Singapore cruise on Wednesday/Thursday. We wait and see. Mumbai port authority is still saying 14th Feb.

  14. Ship making good progress nearing the Canary  Islands. There is a published ship arrival schedule on the Mumbai port site that lists the Silver Moon docking  on the 14th February. Confident cruise will go ahead albeit with a later start and route amended to arrive at Singapore as per original programme. Question is what will be dropped. Still no word from Silversea.  Ship making good progress nearing the Canary  Islands   File809.pdf (mumbaiport.gov.in)
