  1. I don't know of these particular brands but I have seen an assortment of different ones onboard. As some are quite luxurious a request is that you get one that is as small as possible to meet your needs as they can be a bloody nuisance in lifts, getting on and off the ship and in dining rooms at busy times. Some scooter riders are very inconsiderate but expect consideration from their fellow passengers

Perhaps you should try to put yourself in their place! My DH has 1/2 of his foot, this resulted from an injury he received after working 30+ years as an RN. He spent his entire career working with Psychiatric patients, both adolescents and adults, both severely to mildly ill. After surgery over 6 years ago he still has a portion of the wound that will not heal, so we contend with an active wound that bleeds at times not to mention the pain, the neuropathy and huge inconvenience. So we are terribly sorry if we disturb you by getting on the elevator with his mobility scooter but he has been unable to master the steps with his scooter. Perhaps the next time someone with a scooter needs to get on an elevator all of you could move back, just a little, to let them on, with you?

  2. i also really enjoy these rooms on the solstice class ships! Kudos to celebrity for using this space to create something beautiful and artistic in lieu of adding a few more tables to the ensemble lounge.

We all need a little more art and beauty in our lives ;-)

    bravo!!!

  3. Ants on acid... uugghhhh.....that idea gives me the creeps! ;)

Then my guess is that you have never seen it in person. It is a beautiful room, the flowers the sound, the colors! The ants on the floor are only a part of the overall design and they do not move.

DH and I loved it from the first. I have since read, and learned, that "these rooms" are there as "3 dimensional art" a "room that is art". I see that and enjoy it immensely! I truly hope that they continue doing this on their new ships!

Like all "art" you need to have an appreciation for it and it will not be enjoyed by all, but I would request that you give it a chance.

  4. So, the OP actually really did mean to type "ant room," not "art room," or "ante room," and not every ship has ants in the room, but they all have an ante room with art in it?

Do I have that right???

No, it is right "Ant Room" is what most call it, because of all of the ants on the floor. DH and I loved it from the first. I have since read, and learned, that "these rooms" are there as "3 dimensional art" a "room that is art". I see that and enjoy it immensely! I truly hope that they continue doing this on their new ships!

  5. You are NOT supposed to leave your scooters or wheelchairs in the halls. If you need those devices, then they need to be in the cabin with you. You need an accessible cabin, if you want space for it...and plugs to charge it.

Sometimes it is impossible to get an accessible stateroom! The ships have very few of them and they do not require a signed statement that you honestly require one. We have been able to switch to one thanks to our GREAT Travel Planner! She called Carnival and called them on giving accessible cabins to those that are not handicapped and they admitted that 'maybe' they did. SO someone was moved and DH (with 1/2 of a foot) and his scooter that is too big to fit into a regular door are now in an accessible stateroom. We are sorry that someone had to be moved. But folks should not lie about being handicapped. I am sure that my DH would be thrilled to trade places with them, health wise. On Celebrity we always book Aqua and they only have 4 Aqua staterooms that are accessible. They are VERY hard to get!! If we cannot get one, we cannot cruise. Then we finally get on the ship and fellow pax can be very rude. NO one wants to let him on the elevator with his scooter. Do they think he is contagious? He can NOT do the stairs - he has no choice. In the past I have been forced to get on the elevator, hold the door and insist that they move back so that he can get on also. I can see that there is plenty of room - they just do not want to move for him - WHY?

  6. For those of us that have been cruising for many years probably remember that the dress code used to be for the entire evening not just for the time spent in MDR. When that requirement was relaxed from the entire evening to just the MDR, that was the beginning of the end for formal nights IMO. Why dress (and pack for) just a couple hours in the dining room then rush back to the cabin to change into something more comfortable? I never made this switch except for maybe dumping the tie; I never thought that it was worth the effort to change clothes one more time. Also, the no formal dress code in the speciality restaurants is another clue of what is to come (and a great profit driver for these restaurants today).

IMO, "chic" is just a stepping stone that Celebrity is taking before ending formal nights entirely. Maybe when the new "Edge Class" ships are introduced that will be the opening that Celebrity is waiting for to end formal nights and switch to smart casual every night. We will see, obviously market forces will drive this decision (who else will still have formal nights and are they considered Celebrity's prime competition). It will be interesting how this plays out the next few years.

I really just wanted to express my humble opinion (and I know that no one cares) about what a MAJOR disappointment it is to DH and I that "X" has not "real" formal nights any longer. It has cut our cruising by at least 1/2. It was a BIG part of our joy of cruising. We loved being able to "dress for dinner" along with the entire ship, we loved that 98% of the ship would stay dressed for the evening, their flower shop sold corsages and boutonnieres, and my DH always bought them for us. It made for such a GREAT evening. Sometimes he would wear his black tux, he owns various vests, sometimes he would wear his white dinner jacket, usually when we were in the Southern Caribbean or South American, looked more 'tropical'. But it was really fun. I had a number of dresses and outfits, and loved dressing up. Any of us can dress like bums anytime. I do not understand why people come on a cruise ship and wear some of the worn out "stuff" we see. Some of it is SO dirty and worn out I can't even imagine putting it in my luggage, much less being seen in public in it. And what is with wearing NOTHING but football clothing 24/7. We just off of a cruise and some pax wore football jerseys EVERYDAY, every meal, every occasion! Is that really all that they own?

  7. "Chic" night to me just means it's the night people should try to look their best. I think it's a very fair compromise because it doesn't force anyone to wear anything specific but at the same time it allows those that like to dress up to go all out.

OMG! IF this is their "best" I can hardly wait to see their worst!

  8. I would like to thank all of you for your responses. We are going to take it with us. We were not able to get an accessible stateroom and have some worries about it fitting into the cabin. But we will work it out. Thank you again. We will go with a smile and everything will be good :)

  9. All of the people that wear their hats backwards and do not have a clue that it is rude to even wear a hat indoors and those that are so ignorant that they wear their pajamas to the Breakfast Buffet have already destroyed the once beautiful event that was once known as "Formal Night". So I agree, I have no idea why they have an event called "Chic Night"! To many "Chic Night" is their chance to wear their new jeans that came 'pre-sliced', or their best motor cycle boots. PLEASE don't bother! Let the minions wear their best jeans and don't bother calling it by any other name. The once great "formal nights" are gone as the cruise lines bowed to the almighty dollar. Thank God for Cunard!

  10. Has anyone ever had any problems taking their personal Mobility Scooter aboard a ship? In the past we have always rented a scooter for my DH but he now owns a new Pride, Victory 10, so we wish to take it rather than rent. He would want to drive it aboard. Do any of you think that this would be a problem?

  11. We exit the casino and, having a look back, you can see The JavaBlue Cafe/The Shake Spot, computers to access the internet (The Funhub) and a slight portion of the Taste Bar. Directly where I am standing is also where Anytime Dining guests check in. In other words if you elect to not have a specific dinner time, and eat when it works well for you, this is where you head. They will give you a pager which will notify you when your table it ready.

Standing in the same spot, but instead of looking forward, I am now looking aft. We can see the Alchemy Bar on the left and the Ocean Plaza Stage on the right. There is also a small counter right in front of me. That's where the Fun Finds Shopping expert can be found. His name was Gemstone John and he was quite the character.

You can see the walkway in the picture above goes both straight and to the right. Let's head to the right and go into the Red Frog Pub. The Red Frog Pub does serve food…but not on the Sunshine, which is kinda weird.

Here’s the inside. It was pretty nice with a Key West vibe to it. There was usually a solo guitarist here each night. They also played beer pong in here a few days as well. No surprise, there was always a good turn out for that.

Any idea what the hours are of the "Java Blue" Coffee Cafe on most ships?

  12. A number of years ago my DH and I sailed RCCL there were a number of mishaps and we had a terrible cruise. We said then that we would never said RCCL again. Well. . . . A group that we really wanted to be a part of, sailed on a 4 night cruise on IotSeas on 1/5-1/9. We decided that it had been a long time since we had had problems with RCCL and lots of people sail it and like it, so we would go with the group. Well, it was a big disappointment. This time there were NO service issues, which was the problem the last time, but I just don't get how so many of you love it so much....The food was terrible, Carnival's is actually better food, for less money! The ship's carpet, drapes, decoration's bedding, etc. were old and tired looking. The rest of the ship was well maintained, but we were not crazy about the lay-out. We always love going to the coffee-bar to relax , read the news, read a book, watch the sea, etc. But not on this ship, they have a live band playing and busting your ear-drums! The band was good, but to us should have been at the pool! Sorry, just NOTHING that we liked, unless we are desperate to be with "group" again, we go back to "never RCCL". I am sure that RCCL fans will not miss us and be glad for more room for them. They can have the folks that have no clue how to dress in public, they are all yours.

  13. Nope. I had my phone on airplane mode the entire time. It only worked with people I text that had IPhones. android phones did not work. The phone was only connected to Voom for the IQ app. I did not pay for Voom. I'm pretty savvy with my IPhone.

Good someone savvy with their iPhone. So we are going to be on IoftheSeas, and we each have signed up for Voom, mostly for our iPads. If we have our phones on airplane mode can we still text each other (DH & I)? We both have iPhones 7+?

  14. Send an e mail to rcldining@rccl.com about 3 weeks before your cruise.

The #1 reason I HATE sailing RCCL, EVERY other cruise line we have sailed we can request a "table for two" and we ALWAYS get it. BUT NOT on RCCL. On our only RCCL I stood in line for more than 2 hours on embarkation day to try to request a table to two (it is my DH's only requirement for cruising) when it was finally my turn, I was told "lady you are lucky if you get a table at all"! That was the beginning of "the" worst cruise of our lives! We hate RCCL, they are the worse!!!! Of course, the poor family in front of me had a father, mother, elderly mother, 2 very small children and an infant - RCCL had them at 4 different tables! The infant was at a table alone - as was the very elderly mother - the 2 small children were at a table with the father and the mother was at a table alone! The dumbest thing I ever saw. I suppose I was lucky my DH and I even had a table. We were at a table for 10 and DH refused to go to the MDR and eat with 10. So we went to the buffet and had a table for 2. The next night we tried again and this time there was a woman there NOT the idiot that was there the night before. She told us that if we would wait 10-15 minutes she "would" get us a table for 2. We saw 2 men carrying in a table and sure enough, she set up a table for us that we had the rest of the cruise. But many other 'very' negative things kept happening that week, it just got worse!:mad:

That has been quite a few years ago, we are giving RCCL another chance as there is a group cruise, "The Kenda Cruise - The Homicide Hunter" that we really want to go with, so we are going to try again! Wish us luck!

  15. Download the Royal IQ app on your phones. You can call or text each other through that app on the Anthem of the Seas. Works fairly well but you can only use it onboard. Good luck and have a wonderful cruise!

How can I use my iPhone onboard without incurring phone/roaming charges? I always use my phone as an alarm clock, but I am afraid to turn it on because of the charges.

  16. LOL. That free parking under the interstate went away years ago. I think they use that area to store Mardi Gras barricades now.

We always prefer to park at the Port. My husband is handicapped and I find it best to drop off our luggage and my husband and then go to park the car and walk back and meet him. This works very well at Port Lauderdale but I do not know anything about the Port at Mobile. Can I do that at Mobile?

  17. I read somewhere that Fantasy wasn't using the new American Table menus. Does anyone have a link to where I might see the five day menus they are currently using?

    Thanks!

asking this again - would love to see some menus from Fantasy! Please????

  18. Yes they can do that. That way is much simpler than buying gift certificates. If you manage to buy them they have to be redeemed BEFORE the cruise you can't just bring them with you.

On other cruise lines we have always purchased, for ourselves, gift certificates, and then immediately, redeemed them to our account for OBC. Doing this so that we have OBC before we cruise. We do not use 'credit cards' only debit cards. This way all monies are used long before we cruise. Are you telling me that this does not work on RCCL?

  19. We agree, he knows that there are some things that he just cannot do. In one port we took the tender ashore, they always help him aboard, and then we just take our time walking the pier. Then we can take a bus tour or a cab tour and later we can usually find a place to sit, get a snack and people watch. We manage if we are careful and take our time.

  20. You're going to have a very tough time finding that in early April, but try the Hampton Inn - Plantation. It has everything you are looking for and then some, except maybe price. You know what Mick says, though..."You can't always get what you want."

Edit: I hate it when I reply to a really old post without noticing, but my recommendation still stands.

Try the La Quinta in Plantation. We have stayed there a number of times. You can easily walk to the nearby Mall. We always have our car so you will have to check to see if everything is close enough. But we have always enjoyed the place. It has a nice canal behind it where we would watch turtles and fish we loved it, nice pool too.
