  1.

Want to do a Caribbean cruise.

Used to upscale vacations but it is because I research and find great deals.

Is there another cruise line I should be looking at?

You don't need a TA. Whatever research you do for other vacations, you can do for a cruise. Start with the cruise line websites and google.

Any of the lines you've already mentioned are fine, and 2 balcony cabins will work great. Simply type in the date and location you want and your options will pop up. Easy.

  2. Depends on how many they are, when they were posted and what the problems are.

But in a nutshell, no, a review will not make me cancel a cruise. I will be prepared for a potential recurring issue such as if most the reviews say boarding and security are a mess.

  3. Sorry if this has been asked before, but if you don't finish the free bottle of wine that they give you in the steakhouse on the first night do they give you the bottle so you can drink it in the mdr the following nights? My wife asked me to post this she is pregnant and can only have a glass of wine a day and I don't like wine so a bottle will last us the whole week of the cruise. thanks dj

Yuck. She's going to drink the same cheap bottle of red all week long?

But, yes they will save it for you to be served in the MDR.

Be prepared for raised eyebrows and potentially rude comments at the sight of a pregnant woman drinking. ;)

  4. My oldest son went on his first cruise at 6 months and 2 weeks. My youngest went on his first cruise at 11 months. It was easier at 6 months than at 11 months.

Ditto. 6 months is a great time to cruise. Do note that a few cruises, with many sea days such as Hawaii, require one to be 12 months old, so be sure to check the fine print. Also they will not let him board if he is even 1 day too young.

You may want to read on the family board for more information on traveling with a baby.

  5. Used once and NEVER again.

-She charged an additional service fee

-Got us the absolute crummiest cabin on the ship, and the ship wasn't even full. We wanted a balcony and they were sold out. So she got us a porthole cabin in the very, very front. There were tons of ocean view and midship cabins available, but being new, we didn't realize we should ask for these.

-Didn't tell us anything about the cruise, such as dress code, smoking or tipping policy.

-We were soooo confused and irritated at the end of the cruise when we were given an envelope to place tips. She had told us we would only have an extra bill for alcohol or the gift shop, we were lead to believe tips had been paid for.

-In a nutshell; she didn't do diddly squat, except make us pay extra $$$$

Just to check that it wasn't just a fluke thing because that cruise was on a luxury line, we contacted her later for our first trip on a mass market line. However this time we did all the research ahead of time so knew exactly what we were in for. I went in and watched her click around on the cruise line website and get the same result that I had already found!

So I went home and booked it myself.

I'm not paying an extra service fee for her to click "submit" on a website.

We only book vacations online now and have had wonderful results. I recommend TAs to no one.

  6. Anyone know any thing about the following excursions offered by Carnival in Puerto Vallarta:

    -Rhythms of the Night

-tequila factories and old town tour

    -deluxe sunset sail

    -beach break at leisure

    -exclusive resort get away

They all sound nice, but have very few and very old reviews on the excursion registration page.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. :)

  7. My wife and I have never participated in trivia and thanks to all of you for confirming we have made a wise decision. :p

Trivia is a lot of fun.

I personally have never seen any of the shenanigans being reported in this thread.

  8. So you can see I'm looking for ideas for the "non-alcoholic cocktails"...I'm familiar with Virgin Daiquiri, Virgin PinaColata but I'm wondering what other people might have ordered on this package. Thanks.

Many of the mixed drinks will be listed at the bar when you order. Just order those and ask for virgin.

  9. Disagree with the post above, the Skagway train is a big hit with kids. Who doesn't love trains?

I'd recommend that as well as the lumber jack show and the tram in Juneau.

Glacier hike, totem pole park and dogsled rides are also fun for kids.

All 3 of those places are great for just walking around town. They are perfect sized towns for little feet.

  10. I know this has been addressed before but couldn't find. We will be sailing in June with two grand children. I have printed the Camp Carnival pre regristion form and it has to be signed by parent or legal guardian. Do we sign it or get their parenys sign it or what needs to be done. I have a notarized letter givlng permission for medical needs and stuff like that, but was not sure on the other. Thanks in advance.

Not sure, but during the cruise you become the legal guardian.

To be on the safe side, how about you both sign it?

  11. Saw the superbowl about a year ago on a Carnival ship and it had an international feed so all the commercials were not what we normally get.

Well that's different. Not sure if it's exciting or disappointing. Thank goodness all the commercials get posted on You Tube!

    Kick off is 6:30 EST

Our ship leaves from the West coast at 4.

    Hummmm...this could be interesting.
