  1. I am a big fan of soft foam ear plugs. I order Flents Quiet Please from drugstore.com for 2.99 a box because my local drugstores don't carry them any more.

I can get absorbed in my book or sleep through anything, but I can still hear if someone speaks to me.

If they don't turn the music down at my NFL stadium, I'm going to start wearing them to games.

Thanks for the suggestions. This just might be want we need. We really enjoy our books at the pools, but really don't like the noise from MUTS and I am worried that the retreat pool could be too windy. So I think I am going to have to find myself some of these. Thanks again!:D

  2. We sail on the Royal in just over three weeks and I'm looking for some input from previous Royal cruisers on the noise level at the main pool on the Royal. We have done these 10 day itineraries before twice on the Emerald. We prefer the pool on the Emerald that is not near MUTS. Can't stand the noise from MUTS. I do know that there is the adult retreat pool on the a Royal that would be much quieter than the main pool but I have read that the retreat pool is usually very wind, often too windy to enjoy. Just how noisey is the main pool with MUTS? If we seat the farthest from the MUTS screen will we find it too noisey to enjoy reading our ebooks?

  3. I'm so excited for you! And I do remember going back and getting those Enclave pictures for you; it was fun taking the tour of the thermal suite, and a 'must do' for me personally the next time I'm on this class ship. The 'Bon Voyage' thread is now Locked, just got too popular I guess. ;) It is a wealth of information, exactly the reason I enjoyed doing it...to help others on future sailings.

Relax, take it one day at a time, and enjoy Royal Princes. She is a gorgeous ship.

    :D

Dave do you know if one can still access your Bon Voyage thread that you said is locked now and how? What a shame that it was locked! It is full of wonderful information. We are sailing in just under 4 weeks on the Royal and have been trying to find that thread. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

  4. I have asked this question on the St. Kitts board but also wanted to ask it here for all the Princess folks who may have visited St. Kitts in the past. My friend (and hopefully me) is taking the New Year's cruise on Royal Princess and will be at St. Kitts on a Sunday. Does anyone know if the local shops/restaurants will be open? He visited Curacao once on a Sunday and it was pretty much closed up tighter than a drum and he wanted to know if St. Kitts was the same...

Thanks in advance for any responses!

We were in St. Kitts Christmas Day coming up three years ago and everything was open and business as usual.

  5. Tullebelle sorry this cruise did not meet your expectations. We sailed the Carribbean Princess April 5, 2014 and had a wonderful cruise. We found the food to be enjoyable as always on Princess cruises. We were just on the Emerald Princess in February for 20 days which had a lot of the same menus in MR and we found the Carribeean Princess did some items better than the Emerald. Can not comment on the food in the Horizon Court for dinner as we always dined in the MR for dinner and we never felt the need to pay to dine as we thoroughly enjoyed our meals in the MR. We had anytime dining and they were more than happy to accommodate us with a lovely table every evening with the same waiter with a lovely view by a window at 7:30. Also enjoyed some delicious lunches from IC, the trident grill and the horizon court. We also found the service to be excellent especially our wait staff in the MR.

  6. I know that the Carribbean Princess is a similar layout to the Emerald a Princess and when we were on the Emerald in February of this year treadmills were not allowed to be used till after 8:00 am. Can someone who has been on the Carribbean Princess recently tell me if this is the same practice on the Carribbean and what are the gym hours also. Thanks for any information you can supply.

  7. When we had a B2B with one booking number, we had a seperate Internet package for each segment.

Also, the elite min-bar setup is done for each segment.

(Think of a 4 segment 104 day world cruise. One internet package of 500 minutes would not be enough.)

We just disembarked last Sunday and I had a very lengthy discussion with the Captain Circle Hostess on this and she would not budge on the subject. We booked it as a 20 day cruise with one booking number so she said we were only entitled to one internet package each. I had asked this question here on CC before we left and did receive similar answers as yours.

  8. If you are on the final cruise on a certain loyalty level you will move up to the next level on the second part of the cruise. You will also automatically get two cruise credits. But if you aren't set to move up levels you will only get one cruise credit and will have to get the second one added.

Onboard almost everything is treated as two separate cruises on these combined cruises. Including your free Internet if you are Platinum or above. Two separate packages based on the length of each shorter cruise.

    Terry

It depends how you book your cruise. We just got of the Emerald Princess and we were on there for 20 days. We did the two different 10 day itineraries. This can be booked as two separate 10 day cruises or as a one 20 day cruise. If you book as two 10 day cruises then you will have two different booking numbers and will receive two free internet packages if you are Platinum. But if you booked this as a one 20 day cruise with just one booking number then you only get one free internet package. We were told by the Captain Circle Hostess that one booking numbers gets you one internet package. More than one booking numbers gets you more internet packages. And booking numbers is different than voyage numbers. On our 20 day cruises the two different itineraries had two different voyage number but one booking number.

  9. Just read the following on Pescado Amarillo's blog:

First, though, and of interest only to future cruisers on the Emerald Princess, I must report in the demise of wine packages on this ship. They will not exist after this cruise, for how long I'm not certain. They could not keep all the wines on the wine list in stock, and passengers would get upset when, after purchasing the packages, their favorite wines were not available. I'll let you know if the packages are sold again, but if you'll be on the Emerald Princess in the near future, I wouldn't count on purchasing a wine package.

We are due to sail on the Emerald Princess shortly for 20 days and this is very disappointing to hear. We were counting on purchasing the wine package for our 20 days and enjoy wine nightly with our dinner. You got to think that Princess could figure out that their wines are selling and that the wine packages are popular on these 10 day sailings and would stock accordingly. How difficult is it to restock every 10 days when the ship is in Fort Lauderdale? We sailed last year on the Ocean Princess for 21 days starting in Tahitti and ending Hawaii. The ship did run out of a few bottles of wine a few days short of arriving in Hawaii but this was understandable since the ship had not been in the US for 30 days. This isn't good business sense by Princess to not stock enough bottles of wine that are their best sellers on the Emerald Princess. We enjoyed the wines we were able to select from the silver packages so weather we buy a wine package or not it would appear that we will not be able to enjoy these wines on our next sailing on the Emerald a Princess. I'm sure they are not running out of stock of the very expensive wines! And I'm not about to buy those! It seems to me that Princess is encouraging customers to bring on their own cases of wines to be sure that they have enough wine for ones enjoyment with dinner. We can bring on a case of wine for about the same price as the wine packages with paying the corkage charge but we have found it more convenient to just buy the wine package than to haul on our own case of wine. You would think Princess would prefer to make money off of the wine packages than less money with passengers bringing on their own.

  10. Good call.

Enjoy your cruise. Of course it will not be the F.P. but it will be a longer cruise for probably less money. Hope you are doing well. We included picture of Kathy and I in the water in Bora Bora with the mountain in the background in our Christmas card and we have received a lot of comments about how great it must have been. Everyone is always surprised when we tell them that we were standing on our knees.

Thanks I'm sure we will enjoy our cruise. I know snorkelling will never be the same in the Carribbean now. We are thinking of going again in 2015 but this time finishing in Australia. Hope you and Kathy have a very Merry Christmas.

    Melanie.

  11. We are sailing on the Emerald Princess in February 2014 for 20 days. We arrive back in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday March 9, us and six other ships including the Royal a Princess and The Allure of the Seas for a total of 7 ships in port. Port schedule currently shows the Emerald Princess at pier 19. We were booked on a flight out of Fort Lauderdale airport at 11:50. Just got notification from the airline that they have changed our flight to depart at 10:53 now. I am concerned that this new flight time may be very tight to make with a total of 7 ships in port this morning. Should we get the airline to change our reservations to a later flight or do you think 10:53 is doing. We have too much luggage to do express walk off.

  12. I know this thread did not start as a "Live" thread but hands down it has to be the best live thread that I have ever read on CC. Your photos are wonderful, your information is fantastic and if you did not cover some aspect of the Royal that someof our curious minds need to know, you go find out the answers for us. Absolutely the best live thread! Thank you for all of the hard work you have done to keep us all so well informed on the Royal. I wish you the most wonderful next week of your cruise. Enjoy! You earned it!:):):)

  13. We were on a 48 day cruise recently. We booked it as one cruise, but it was also offered as 28 and 20 days. We got 500 each at the beginning and 250 at the start of the second.

Thanks Paul! Good to know how many minutes one has to manage our usage during the cruise.

    Melanie.

  14. We are sailing on the Emerald Princess in February 2014. We are booked as a 20 day cruise, not as two separate 10 day cruises. I know that we have to disembark in Fort Lauderdale and get new cruise cards after the first 10 days. So my question is will we get 250 minutes of internet for the first 10 days and then another 10 days for the second 10 days since they are two different voyage numbers. Or do we just get 250 minutes for the 20 days since we only booked the cruise as a 20 day cruise. First time getting platinum internet minutes.
