What way are you interpreting this Krydstosser? My initial reading (pessimistic) is that NCL will add VAT to every transaction and that they might even issue a cheque for the VAT for beverage package transactions? Or have passengers clarified that it is all ok and I further charges?

I wish NCL could write a clear message!

Edit:  oh, I think you just saying that spirits can now be served? But still the dreaded VAT!

I am sure that vat will be added every time you order a drink on the if you has a drink package, but my point is that now you can get a drink at least.

When I was on Epic in september 2021 I think that I recall that they also added Vat to every Spirit/Alcohol order when in port. So that is not new.

I am still not convinced.  They have thrown out a badly written sign.  It includes typos.  The sign says that extra tax will be charged when drinks are served.  It does not say IF drinks will be served or not.  NCL have made such a hash of this, I no longer believe them.  I do not feel valued.

This is from gusts currently on the Epic, why should they not tell the truth? 2 has confirmed this.

As I remember there was also tax/VAT on the drinks in ports when we cruised with Epic in September 2021 so the Tax/Vat on drinks package is not new!

My question to you professional lurkers...are passengers being charged Tax..vat or whatever you want to call it when purchasing a drink with or without a drinks package in Spanish ports.

Most European ports has Tax/Vat on Alcohol/Spirits so when in port and you will get charged.

It looks like NCL still only serve Beer and Wine in Italian an Spanish ports. I believe they did not paid for an Alcohol License. RCL, Celebrity, P&O does serve when in ports.

She kept repeating “those with the drink package” I’m guessing it has to do with what fees they have paid to serve while in port. But that’s a guess. I always get the drink package.

Do you know what this thread is about? It does not seems that way! You do not offed me with calling me a girl. I must disappoint you.

Should guest without the drink package not be aloud to buy a drink when in port?

  5. I have a cruise with Getaway in june coming up (3th NCL Cruise) and I am so disappointed with NCL. This outrageous Non-serving in Southampton and now this "Only Beer & Wine when in port" in Livorno and other ports. If they had told me before I bought my Cruise fair enough but this sudden sign at the bar is not okay. I tried to push other people on Facebook to complain but they called me a troublemaker and alcoholic and so on. Now I see what happens on my cruise, if they do this "Only Beer and wine" Policy i am done with NCL. I have tried almost all (Main stream) Cruise lines and all are good on their own way. I chosed  NCL this time because of the FAS and upgraded to Plus package, but if they not deliver and lie to me I will go to another Cruise line that treat me with decency and respect. I have recommended 3 other couples to Cruise with NCL and they did but I will not recommend NCL anymore.

Good to hear that drinks were served in Southampton today on the NCL Star. However for me the damage has already been done. I was one of the passengers on the now infamous 'prohibition' cruise and while I could accept it being an admin muck up / new regulations on the embarkation day, it very much all turned sour when the promise that it wouldn't happen again when we were scheduled to be in Belfast failed to materialise. After that I concluded that I no longer could trust anyone's word within the cruise line unless it was backed up by a typed message with the NCL logo. To be fair this only applied to the senior ship members, the bar staff themselves were non-committal (probably because they themselves probably didn't know).

Given the situation, I concluded that I did not want to spend any more money on NCL until I knew for sure that the situation had been resolved to my satisfaction, which never happened whilst on board. So although I failed to reclaim the gratuities that some have suggested (not an unreasonable option IMO) nor filed a complaint while on board, I also decided not to take out their Cruise Next offers, which arguably is the greater damage to them, as it now means I no longer have any deposits with the company and therefore do not have any 'skin in the game' to tie me into making further cruise holiday purchases with them. As a result I am now looking at booking cruises with other lines now, whereas had this been resolved before Belfast, I would have definitely booked at least one more cruise, if not more with NCL.

I agree so much! I have a cruise with Getaway in june coming up (3th NCL Cruise) and I am so disappointed with NCL. Not really. We were considering booking a cruise on Carnival but we saw their cancellation policy which says each cancelled reservation will be subject to a $50 fee, with the balance being applied as a credit on a future cruise.

NCL's policy is you can cancel with no fee/penalty up until final payment.

Instead NCL cheat and screw you with the "Unfree at Sea" package 😂

In my opinion you are not. I felt it was unfair with the free at sea package. I can’t Imagine paying for the plus with these restrictions. Can you cancel the plus package?

I bought it online Upgrade Wifi/Plus/Specialty dining, I will try next week to get my money back, I should have bought it thru my Travel agent but it was so easy to do it online at NCL so I did that. This Upgrade was expensive so only get wine and bear is not acceptable.

When that said to begin with I choosed NCL because of the Drink package FAS. So I feel cheated anyway maybe I am unfair...

I wish I knew someone on board right now but I don’t. My friend was on last week. He had the drink package. He could get alcohol in port in Civitavecchia but could only get beer and wine while in Livorno. We were on board on the last TA and were told  by a couple bartenders that NCL would only be serving beer and wine when the Epic is docked overnight in ports this summer. From what I could find Those cruises do not start until mid June so I don’t know if that is still the plan. They are having overnights in Livorno, Civitavecchia and Barcelona. From posts on the other site the Livorno beer and wine is in place when just stopping for the day…we had a cruise booked with 3 overnight stops and have cancelled it. Between this and the untruths being told currently  in the UK we figure there will be Plenty of time to cruise when this is sorted.

Am I unfair? I paid for the Plus Package and I mean they should serve me at sea and in the Port. I get more and more Pi...d

Seems to be the case… haven’t seen anything to the contrary…

my TA contacted NCL and they assured her that there were no restrictions in Livorno 🙄

I have cruised with many Cruise lines RCL, Celebrity, Carnival, P&O and 2 times with NCL, I think this Beer & Wine and restriction is outrageous! The Free at seas Pacakage was my main reason to chose NCL and now this BS! I am really P..sed actually!

  12. Hello Guys

I would like to hear from current guests (Or just disembarked) on ships visiting Spain and Italy!

    1. Do you have this "Only Beer & Wine Policy" when in those ports?

    2. Do they serve Spirits/Cocktails when you have the Drinks Package (In Ports) If not when do they open for serving Spirits/Cocktails? Is it 8:30 Pm or later?

    3. Are you satisfied with this policy?

Why do I ask about this? I have a Cruise with Getaway in June and I bought the Premium Plus Package. I think NCL should have told me about this "Only Beer and Wine" policy before i bought it. Just my opinion.

I only cruise once or twice a year and do not go to bars the other part of the year so there for I pay a little extra for our drink package. I prefer premium brands and prefer Cocktails and not Beer and Wine. If you think this I weird thats okay with me but maybe you understand my curiosity to this subject regarding this "Wine & Beer" Policy.

If my spelling is not correct bear with me I am danish and my English is rusty

It doesn't seem to matter what country, what port or what ship since there's no consistency.

And, while it's nice for the people who cruise in the future if/when this is resolved, there's no way to know whether I'll be the unlucky one on my next NCL sailing.

I agree, we love to stay on the ship on some port days so we pre-paid for the Plus drinks package and now we can only get wine and beer! I feel they cheated me! Spanish and Italian ports and one French.

I should have chosen a Celebrity Cruise instead there is no BS with them.

I think a lot of people would consider it to be a major issue - to have paid for a service and then it not be provided

On my upcoming Breakaway cruise, there’s a couple of ports we won’t be getting off - I wouldn’t want to be sitting in the sun with only water, juice or sprite to drink all day when I’ve paid to have a beer or cocktail… then have a nice dinner at Cagneys with sprite instead of a nice Malbec

I agree its a huge issue!!
