  1. Sorry to hear about your horrible experience. This is where taking good insurance, rather than cheap insurance, is a better option. Covermore Insurance is who we use and we've never had any problems with them. If you were with them, you could have the hospital contact them, and their medical team would liaise direct with the hospital to make sure you're getting the right treatment. They would also take care of all costs directly so you don't have to pay anything up front like you've had to in this situation. If you needed to be flown back or have family flown in to be with you, they would arrange that as well.

  2. Steady on. I think people are all for a new ship but were just wondering how infrastructure and ports etc would cope with a ship so large.

Our region is more suited to the 2000-3000 tops.

It's four years down the track. We have no idea what sort of investment in infrastructure will be made in the next few years. It's quite possible (with the work Carnival Australia has been doing to improve infrastructure), that there are port plans, etc that we aren't privy to. Vila can now take Voyager class ships due to dredging.

People on here always seem to take the negative. We're all meant to love cruising, so how about we celebrate news like this? I don't mean to offend anyone, but it just gets a bit frustrating to read the same sorts of negative things from the same people sometimes.

  3. How do you know they only did 10 min of work? You don't know how much work went into them securing the lower prices / perks that they are offering. Also travel agencies get paid a commission. they aren't paid until you travel if you cancel they do not get paid for the booking you cancelled. Even if they didn't do much work for you they are not getting paid by the cruise line since the reservation was cancelled

As a TA (albeit in Australia), everything jonj has said is true. I'm sorry you had to cancel your cruise MaryZ, but if it was "just a 5 or 10 minute job", why did you not book it yourself? Something has kept you going back to that TA time and time again (whether it be price, service, whatever). In the grand scheme of things, $50 per person is a lot less than what the agent would've made in commission, had you completed your booking. The majority of agents wouldn't take home that $100 in their pay packet either. The agency gets a cut, and the agent would take maybe 10 or 15% (minus income tax). I'm sure the agent appreciated the $10 or so they got for the 5 to 10 minutes work.

I hope you give the agency another chance next time you book. :)

  4. Thank you for the review. I don't think it's a case of RCI giving us older ships. They've proven that's certainly not the case with the ships we're getting (Voyager, Explorer, Ovation). However, I think it's more a case of people wanting other options from Brisbane (or something other than Sydney), other than P&O, and Legend is the only ship in the fleet (bar the Empress, once she returns next year) that is small enough to access the Brisbane cruise terminal. She's still newer than the P&O options. :)

  5. I'm a TA that uses Cruising Power on a regular basis and what you were told is correct. There is no way around what you suggested because it would automatically register as a cancellation.

I would suggest you go on your Anthem cruise, don't sweat the small stuff, and you may find you enjoy yourself.

  6. I think the conduct of some people (covertly recording staff, etc) is disgusting. Who the hell do they think they are!? A Current Affair!? No wonder this forum has such a bad name! [emoji35]

Why do you have such beef with P&O, Cyrix400? There are several threads that have been started by you, all covering the same topic. It's starting to look like a tabloid beat-up!

  7. Hi,

Im looking at the Ovation of the Seas cruise on 23rd January 2017 and they are _supposed_ to have no single supplement on the super studio ocean view stateroom with balcony. This is because they were basically designed with the solo traveller in mind. The problem is they are charging nearly $5000 for one person and this is the same price as a single person would pay for a normal balcony cabin (in comparison its $2300 or so each for share twin in the normal balcony cabin). This seems to defeat the whole purpose of what these cabins were made for, ie to make a nice cabin affordable for the solo traveller........ I think greed, thinking they will get that price anyway??

Itineraries on Ovation are a lot more expensive than those on other ships. I just checked Cruising Power and there is one single inside available (cat M) for that sailing for $3884.45 including $75obc. I guess if you just want to be on the ship, that would be the best option...

  8. What an awesome write up on the P&O Pacific Eden.

We are a family of four who are booked on the P&O Pacific Eden for a trip to New Caledonia (our first cruise holiday). As such, the review and FB photos provided are very informative.

By chance do you know the extra costs associated with the premium restaurants like Dragon Lady and Angelo's? Additionally, are room service dining available at extra costs?

A huge thank you for the review. :)

Thank you Penelope GS, I'm glad you enjoyed it. The usual cover charge for Angelo's and Dragon Lady is $10. They only open for dinner.

I believe there is a room service menu and items are charged individually. The menus weren't in the staterooms for our short cruise unfortunately, so I can't be any more specific. :)
