I was going to try and buy tickets online next week. Does anyone know which ticket I should get to make sure we can see as much as possible. Is the only different the head set vs self guided, vs a guide?

We are on the Emerald Dec. 4 and I will be bringing my Uke. I am currently part of a jam session at home so will bring some of my music as well if anyone wants to maybe get together and play sometime.

They have canceled the May 23, 2020 cruise and stated that it is because both the Grand and Golden are being deployed to P & O.

We just got a voice mail from Princess that our Coastal May 23, 2020 has been cancelled. They can move us to Royal on an earlier cruise. We were in a window suite and they said they can move us to a mini suite for an extra $40 per person and less desirable location. Unfortunately we were planning on celebrating my birthday so will just cancel the whole thing and find another type of vacation. On the phone with them and they said they would give a whopping $15 obc for the inconvenience if we would move to a different date! What a deal.

Sorry that I caused such a stir with people. There are a lot of cruise lines to choice from and when I spend that much money I want to have a good time, and part of that is I want to look good. I don't want to wear my hair in a pony tail or wear a hat all of the time. It may appear vain to you, but it is important to me. I travel a lot, all on ocean cruise lines at this point. Based on my experience there are a lot of people that don't care at all how they look on vacation, but that is not me. I would be fine if they would supply a curling iron that they deem safe, or if they want to check mine out.

Recently I had a male friend tell me he and his wife were taking a Viking cruise. I told him I had considered it but was concerned about not taking my curling iron. His comment was "Don't tell my wife as she will not go!" I don't think that it is just me.

We were on the Golden in June and was very happy with most everything. The food in the dining room was above average. Only issue we had was the Cruise Director, John. We found him to be very rude and made obnoxious comments about the Captain.

I was told by Viking and also by Crystal that you are not allowed a curling iron onboard their river cruises. Are there any river cruises that do allow them?

We were on the Golden in June and the suite breakfast was in the Crown Grill. Food and service were excellent!!

Does anyone know when they will announce cruises for Summer/Fall of 2020?

We were on a June 9th cruise on Golden and in a window suite. The cabin was great and the morning breakfast was in the Crown Grill, very near your cabin. I would recommend that you go every morning, service and food was great. They will bring you most anything you want including specialty coffees and Mimosa. We thought the food and service were also very good in Club Class dining. The couple of downsides were the buffet, which didn't look great to me so we didn't eat there. Also did not care for the Cruise Director. At bingo one day when the Captain came over the loud speaker to make an announcement he stated that we didn't have to listen as the Captain was boring. "Just sleep through it." He is the worst we have had in 23 cruises!! The other thing on the Golden that I thought was fun was harmonica lessons. The guy that teaches them is very good and patient with people. Everyone seemed to keep coming back so that is a good sign. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I understand from Viking that you cannot take a curling iron. Is this true on other River lines?

We had a window suite on the Caribbean Princess in April' date=' and the things you described were not our situation. We did have a "forgetful" steward and I had to ask for things--laundry bag, embarkation letter, etc. We did get fruit in the room at embarkation, an orchid on the counter in the room and carnations in the bathroom. There were no formal night flowers; I didn't know that was a thing. We got embarkation canapes and later profitteroles without ordering either. Laundry was "next day." We did trade our mini bar for two unmarked coffee cards, but this was April before the electronic system started.

 

Your breakfast was in Crown Grill? Is there not a Sabatini's, or is CG the standard place on the Golden? I'm asking because we have a window suite on the Golden later this year. It sounds like there were a couple of serious gaps in your service.[/quote']

 

Yes, on the Golden the breakfast is in the Crown even though they do have a Sabatini's. Since you are in a window suite you will love it as it is very near the suite. Food and service was great! No coffee cards so you will want to take any old ones you have and see if they will use them.

We just got off the Golden 2 weeks, and had a window suite. Loved the breakfast in the Crown Grill and dinner in Club Class. Mostly loved how quiet it was and easy to get in and out of. Food was also very good. On the bad side, we did not get flowers on formal night nor were they offered. No champagne on Sail Away. No fruit in our room for 2 days and then our guy just happen to mention, hey do you want any fruit? Laundry was always second day, never same day. My daughter had the suite next door and when she asked for her husbands jacket to be pressed and back for the next day she was charged for it and was told because they got it late the day before. We are elite so I was going to change out our bar service for coffee cards, but they said they would just put the coffee cards (4) on our account for this cruise only. How could you use 4 coffee cards in a week. Since we had Sip and Sail we did not need the coffee cards either so we left the drinks in the cabin when we disembarked. Drank a few waters. I was hoping to get a survey when we got home as we had often gotten in the past, but one did not arrive. I contacted customer service to ask about it and have not heard back from them. So surprised! We have been on 24 cruises and have 2 more booked. Might start looking a other cruise lines to see what they are like.

I checked my junk mail and it is not there. Best bet will probably be to call Princess.

We just returned on Saturday from our cruise and was surprised to not have a survey waiting for us in our email. Is Princess still doing these?

We just got off yesterday and really only saw 2 buckets for water. A couple of times in the hallway I smelled an odor, but for the most part it wasn't bad. The food and the service we thought were very good. Didn't like the Cruise Director, in fact we thought he was the worst we have experienced in many years. Was surprised that he actually announced you should not stop and listen to the captain as he is very boring. Very disrespectful.

Thanks for the update on the Golden. We will be on June 9th, with the land portion first. How was the condition of the ship?

We are taking our 13 year old grandchild with us on an Alaska cruise. Can she go into bingo, trivia etc?

Has anyone gone on the Glacier Point Wilderness Safari - https://skagwayshoretours.com/tour/glacier-point-wilderness-safari. We are looking at doing this on our June cruise. We are in our 60's and still active so hopefully we can do it!
