  1. I'm in the same situation with a tough call since we sail on the Horizon on Dec 26th and full payment is due sept 25th.

If i cancel now i would get my 500.00 deposit back but lose the 1810.00 FCC from the Inaugural sailing of the Mardi Gras which was cancelled.

If i pay only an addition 1245.00 and the cruise line cancels will i get the 1245.00 plus 500.00 back in a cash refund? and then i'd still retain my FCC and apparently a 600 OBC too.

If i pay and they don't cancel the cruise and i can't get there becaus ethe border is still closed to Canadians then i'd get all that in FCC's ..

    Tough call...Any advice..

  2. We're in the same Boat...

    As i see it we have 2 choices;

    a) cancel now before, if final payment hasn't been paid for and it's refundable either as cash or FCC.

    b) give cruise company your cash(full payment) and cancel within 72 hours and only get an FCC.

Can you predict that any specific cruise company will be solvent after this is over?

Is there a risk in that case that you could lose all your money?

Personally.we'll be cancelling, keeping our money and betting that when the time comes to rebook safely the price will be lower than it is now.

    IMHO

  3. So cruises are shut down for 60 days which basically covers all Transatlantic sailings.

So how realistic is it for us to assume that after the shut down that Princess can suddenly create new TA sailings and market them in a short window to salvage any part of the European season..

With so much uncertainty i can't imagine they could plan for that scenario..where would crew come from, supplies etc etc???

Essentially what i'm asking is why Princess can't or won't announce that the European season is toast.

Logistics aside, how can you plan if you don't even know if you will have ports to go to or start from?

  5. This begs the question if they will reschedule the TA sailings to a later date to salvage some of the European season.

No mention on compensation for cancelled flights or changes to flights..how about prepaid tours, hotels etc..

I realize the situation is fluid and changes hourly but surely if they shut down for 60 days there has to be a apart they aren't telling us like "then what".

We have a British Isles cruise scheduled Sept 1..

  6. I don't know if the dishwasher's aboard ships have a higher heat setting than standard commercial ones.

But commercial dishwashers like in our homes cannot kill Norovirus.

We haven't been told how hardy the Corona virus is relative to the norovirus...

The point of my post is to generate that discussion within the cruise industry to give us the information so we can make calculated decisions as to whether we should risk Cruise travel at this time.

I haven't even touched on the issue of shared recirculated air on the Diamond Princess.

These people are in a horrific situation and are now being told that there may not be a concrete end date to their Quarantine in case new cases pop up..

  7. I tried a google search to see if the Virus can be killed by Dishwashers and i couldn't find any answers.

With the number of passengers infected on the Diamond Princess tripling it seems that this is a fairly important/valid question.

If they are being fed and the same dishes are being circulated throughout the 14 days then isn't that a source of reinfection that renders this 14 day Quarantine useless.

One interesting tidbit that my research uncovered is that the Norovirus cannot be killed by dishwashers alone..considering cruise lines are notorious for those types of outbreaks it really makes you wonder on the effectiveness of current measures in protecting passengers.

  8. My agency isn't a full service one which books all your flights, transfers etc but an online large Cruise Outlet.

They have contacted Carnival on my behalf and what i posted is information they relayed to me.

So even agencies are getting the run around from Carnival as to what are the proper procedures to follow to get reimbursement.

This sin't a new problem with cruise line customer service agents...so many threads and comments deal with getting different information every time they call in and speak to another agent.

According to Carnivals letter we really didn't need to do anything to get the cruise deposit credited back to our card.

Since we were booked on the inaugural i assumed they would start there with refunds since we were the first sailing cancelled.

  9. It's now January 12th and i haven't received my refund yet...never received a letter from Carnival or any form of communication from them.

To those of you who berated us when we complained about the cancellation, here is an update.

No one seems to know what they are doing...at least in my case.

On one hand i'm being told don't change my flight until i've been approved by Carnival and then also told to change my flight and submit the non waived fees to Carnival.

I've been asked to get a letter from Westjet airlines that they won't waive the fees..i've spoken to several supervisors who told me they don't give such letters and it's between me and Carnival and not for them to be involved.

I can't tell you how frustrating this whole situation has been..i've wasted countless hours on the phone and by email to Airlines,my Travel Agency and Carnival who won't speak to me since it was booked through an agency.

They won't speak to me yet ask me to send in information..seems ironic to me..

Once again these issues pertain to those of us who were booked on the Europe portion ot Transatlantic flights and not cancelled Caribbean cruises which were easy to rebook.

  10. Clearly our math calculations don’t align.

if I use my FCC of 1810.00 on another cruise then I’m in a cabin at an 1810.00 discount..so they lost 1810.00 compared to the price another person would have paid.

If I spend that 1810.00 as OBC then their loss is significantly less.

if I buy 10/day wifi pass at 120.00 on 12 day cruise what is their cost..zero..the wifi is on anyways.

If I buy a 80/ day drink package do you think their cost is 80.00..it’s probably 10-15% of that and only if I drank a lot..which we don’t...

I guess i just dont get it. This was canceled a whole year from departure day. Is that not enough time to change plans? Why do people feel entitled to get anything from CCL? Of course they will give you something, but come on, this is still a whole year away!!  Geez

I think we need to look at the problems facing passengers affected by the cruise in 2 different categories.a) those that had a Caribbean cruise should have no issue transferring the booking to another sailing as there are literally hundreds of Carnival sailings to choose from.Airfare is easy to change too and minimal to no research goes into excursions on Caribbean sailings..so the offer from Carnival actually works very favourably for those impacted.

    b) Then there are those of us who booked the inaugural sailing strictly because of the unique itinerary..many booked a back to back including the Transatlantic.

A European cruise requires a lot of preparation and requires pre post hotel bookings, transfers from distant ports as well as plenty of research to get the right tour per port.

Changing one way flights takes time, and encounters costs in cancellations.

We are scrambling to find another European cruise at roughly the same time period to minimize impact of the cancellation.

We too only booked this on Carnival for the itinerary and have no interest in sailing with Carnival on a Caribbean cruise..I have hundreds of options with other cruise lines that may be more suitable for our age group and demographics.

Hopefully this explains to those looking from the outside on how different passengers were impacted in different ways..

Comparing these two diverse groups is not comparing Apples to Apples.

Hoping this provides clarity to those that are just not getting why this can be somewhat a burden even if it’s 9 months away.

  12. Let me clarify.

    a) I’m not asking for more compensation.

    b) I stated that since it was based on the amount we would have paid that what they were offering was generous.

    c) I was proposing another form of compensation which would actually save CCL money and at the same time satisfy customers by giving them more options for rebooking.

    d) if they gave us the amount in OBC’s on any of their ship lines then it would only cost them cents on the dollar...if they give you 500.00 off a future cruise it’s 500.00 of revenue lost..if they gave it to you as an on-board credit on Princess for say a drinks package it may only cost them 100.00.

Hope that clarifies my position and suggestion.

  13. Fellow travellers I need your help.

I started a new post on the Carnival board titled Open Letter to CCL.

lmk your thoughts and please respond in the positive if you feel the same way.

There are close to 40000 of us affected by the 8 cancelled sailings which is a pretty powerful voice/lobby.

    sincerely,Amit

  14. DEAR CCL

Firstly I understand that a delayed construction of a new ship is not your fault but that of the builder.

However since this can happen from time to time I’m assuming you take out insurance in the case it’s delayed to cover lost revenue on cancelled cruises and for paying out compensation to those passengers affected by the cancellation.

Your offer which on the surface seems generous doesn’t begin to cover all  the lost hours of phone calls, emails that have already occurred in preparing for this cruise via booking, air, excursions and transfers etc.

Now additional hours will be spent canceling ,rebooking, research etc to scramble and find an alternative vacation for the same time period.

Standard wait times on hold with AC is 45 minutes or longer just as an example.

For you it’s a business decision for us fellow travellers it’s about our emotions of frustration, disappointment and anger too.

Some affected have already been told of out of pocket losses for which they wont receive compensation from CCL..an example is premiums paid for insurance packages purchased from a company other than Carnival.

So here’s my suggestion to compensate all those affected by the cancelled cruises.

CCL owns HAL,Costa and Princess too.

Why not allow us to use our FCC on any of those companies?

To be fair I’d even consider the FCC amount as an OBC as opposed to a discount..this way customers are given extra options to rebook and it will only you cost you x cents on the dollar as opposed to a straight cruise discount.

Just my humble opinion that could make customers feel better about rebooking with you in the future.

  15. By the way they come in a lower dose of 15mg in case you want to see how it affects you.

My daughter and i take 2 x 25mg each per day with no drowsiness or other side effects and she drinks way more than i do:).

Coming out of Grand Cayman  this past December we hit a bad storm that rocked us badly most of the night and early morning.

I doubled my usual dose and took 2 more 25mg and i was fine.

  16. The active ingredient for Bonine is Meclizine.

You can buy Rugby brand 100 caplets of 25 mg chewable or non chewable at Topps or Wegmans for around 6-8.00 per bottle.

My daughter and i have used it on many cruises and theme parks and it works like a charm with no drowsiness or other side effects...and we can drink with it too.

It doesn't require a prescription but you have to ask for it since it's behind the counter.

Is the Anax Resort on the beach? I'm trying to decide between a day pass here or the Saint John's Resort. When I look at the pictures I can't tell if the Anax is above the beach or there are chairs set up on the beach.

To get to the beach you have to walk down some stairs to access the lounge chairs and water.

I'd suggest water shoes..the couple we were with spent most of their time down by the beach while we were at the pool.

  18. We just came back from our cruise on the Reflection on Aug 29th.

We walked around town for around 1.5 hours and then had a prebooked Day Pass at the Anax Resort.

This resort is owned by the same people as St Johns but is only 2 years old.

For 30 euros we had use of the facilities, lounge chairs, towels and stunning clean change rooms with lockable lockers and showers and a gym too...it is my understanding that the rate has just gone up to 45 euros/pp.

The resort is 5 stars and spectacular with 2 large infinity pools and a hot tub overlooking the ocean.

Lunch there was amazing too and very reasonably priced.

No deposit was required..we just confirmed it around 1 week before arrival.it also included free pickup and drop off ..the pick up was at Remezzo Restaurant on the pier...we prebooked our pick up time but called them and moved it up an hour after having touredthe town.

  19. I agree..The first time we were introduced to the program we couldn't take advantage of the free tour. They advised us so late and we had already booked a private excursion.

It was a fluke that we used the tour last May in Malaga since we were just planning on walking around on our own.

The tours are decent and they don't skimp on the guides and buses.

I've never used the hosts for anything else onboard...however if you dodn't travel in Suites or concierge class i assume they could do some things for you.

Why not check to see if they can get you priority tender tickets?

Trying to think outside the box:).

It doesn’t help to get offered this 3 weeks before a European cruise whenever most people have already made plans. I would have loved to take the free excursion offered but we already made excursion plans. Besides the free tour and cocktail party, has anyone found services the on board host provides worth using? Are there other things they have done for guests besides the excursion?
  20. When the ships Chief Engineer came in to our cabin with 2 other junior engineers and Julie from customer relations they all felt the vibrations.

The Chief engineer felt it may be an imbalance in the power assigned to the different engines and he told us he would try to balance them better.

However whatever he tried made the vibrations so much worse and we had a tough time sleeping the last 2 nights.

Our roll call had someone who arranged a meet and greet in the Reflection suite and he too complained about how bad the vibrations were in his room and the adjoining Signature suite.

We were in 2156 and 2152 had similar vibrations..can't understand why 2155 and 2157 also on the hump didn't feel any nor why a deck below you didn't feel any.

Where you on the hump too?

What causes the vibration? We were in the CS last year, one deck below and didn’t notice anything.
