  1. Very Odd Indeed:) since those cabins are still on the hump...but on the left side..

That ruins my theory that only the hump midship cabins are prone to the vibration.

Friends of ours were in 2152 and they felt the vibrations too.

quote=youwash;55356357]Checked with sisters down the line 2157 2155 and they report no vibration. And Of course they are all odd numbers.

  2. I'd like to thank you for your live review because i had just booked 2156 on an upcoming August sailing in the hopes the problem was solved.

Using your information i just ask my TA to move my room off of the hump in the hopes that only the hump cabins or those exactly at midship are suffering from these vibration issues.

If by chance you bump into anyone staying in the skyuites ahead or behind you off of the hump please ask them if they feel the vibrations too.

Yes thank you, I read that review and was hoping that it had changed but it has not. We still sleep ok.

  3. We were in 2156 this past May and in my cabin review i mentioned the severe vibration we experienced.

It was felt the most on the bed and on the toilet seat and while my wife did her makeup in front of the mirror.

Sorry to hear the problem wasn't solved yet.

Our rooms are on 12 on the hump right around the corner from the elevators. Above us are lounge chairs and ping pong table at n the area Have to see how that goes! Quiet so far but surprised by the amount of vibration. Bed vibrated pretty good and I didn't even have to put in a quarter! Lol. We have 4 rooms in a row and all report good so far. Butler is Alex and taking good care of us.

  4. Years ago if you wanted to contact a certain person or department there was a way to reach them directly via email.

We sailed in Cabin 2156 on the Reflection and had an issue with horrible vibrations which were confirmed by the Chief Engineer,2 other engineers and Julie head of guest relations when they came up to our cabin.

I'd like to contact either the Engineering dept or Julie directly to see if the problem has been resolved since we have just booked to sail on the Reflection again.

So if anyone has or knows of a way to contact them please let me know.

    thanks,

    Amit

Since we are booked in a Sky suite again couldn't i contact the Michael's club concierge directly..how do i do that?

  5. Here's the kicker.Despite the sailing not showing on their site i still get an email every day letting me know i can prebook excursions etc. The sailing shows up for using OBC's pre sail date and with Choice Air too but not if you go to find a cruise.

  6. I just booked Dec 15/2018 on the Equinox through my usual Travel agent and not through X.

I then went to the Celebrity site to get further details and guess what the sailing is not accessible on the site.

So i email Webmaster support to let them know of the issue and surprisingly get a call back thanking me for pointing out their error.

It's been almost 2 weeks and they still haven't corrected the problem..kind of hard to sell a cruise if customers can't see it:)

It's possibly why i got such a good deal..their robot algorithms probably felt the sailing is undersold:)

  7. We recently sailed on the Reflection and were given a free Distinctive tour in Malaga which was a 4.5 hour tour around Malaga and a private Flamenco show at the Flamenco museum.

The tour was excellent and the original number of participants was to be 70 but only 45 accepted the tour.Despite the lower number the local tour company still provided us with 2 buses and 2 dedicated guides which was unexpected but made the tour better and more comfortable.

The downside is we only found out about the tour 1 week before we sailed. We booked our cruise a year out and organized shared tours through cruise critic at most ports of call...Luckily it worked out as we only planned to do Malaga on our own so we opted for the FREE tour and had no regrets.

The onboard couple that were our hosts were wonderful to deal with and very helpful.

  8. SHIP: Reflection

    CABIN #: 2156

    DECK #: 12

    CLASS: Skysuite

    AREA: Midship

    BED NEAR:

QUIET?: a little noise from above on occasion but nothing that should bother anybody

    BALCONY VIEW: on the hump

BALCONY SIZE: normal for the class

    WIND A PROBLEM?:none

    SOOT A PROBLEM?:N/A

PROBLEMS/COMMENTS:I researched this cabin extensively and was shocked to find out that there is a very annoying vibration in the room.Who would have thought that a midship deck 12 Expensive skysuite would feel like a deck 3 aft cabin near the engines.

It was most noticeable on the commode, seating in front of the mirror putting on makeup(not mine but DW:)) and in the bed..i never ran out of quarters...Our neighbours two doors down experienced the same issue. It was brought to the attention of the Guest Relations manager who brought up the Chief engineer and 2 other engineers who all felt the vibration. The Chief Engineer said he will try to balance the power to the different engines to see if that could be a remedy..well whatever he did magnified the problem at least 5 fold such that the bed vibrated worse than ever...i honestly think this is a new form of torture...i couldn't sleep at all the last 2 nights.

Do not book this cabin if you are at all a bit concerned about sea sickeness even on very very calm seas.

We did receive compensation but the problem is still there and i will avoid booking this cabin again or better yet the Reflection as we've never ever experienced this before.

  9. We're in a Suite but our daughter and another couple aren't.

I've come to the conclusion that we will be eating dinners in the MDR for the most part so we can sit together.

However i wonder if anyone has walked into Luminae and were able to take out some menu item to eat at a different venue.I was thinking mostly about embarkation lunch (the burger) or popping in to get those wonderful morning pastries...

Alternatively has anyone ever asked their butler to bring up an assortment of Lumine pastries if eating breakfast in our room.

Just wanted to hear from others on ideas on how to partly enjoy Luminae when traveling with those that don't have access...yes i realize they can pay if there is space available..

  10. My response other than trying to add info was tongue in cheek as we are paying double occupancy for a single in a balcony cabin...so i was joking it would be nice since we're paying almost 1500.00 for a Phantom second person if they would be somewhat generous:) ...in reality it wouldn't be free considering the premium we are paying for her.

It's not like we got a break when she can't drink 2 packages which we were entiltled to...Maybe instead of getting 2 perks we should have been given all 4 perks..

She could eat in Luminae for no charge if she were staying in a suite. What's the incentive for people to pay for suite class if there were tons of loopholes to get the amenities for free? There have been reports that minor children staying in their own cabin have been able to eat with their parents in Luminae but once kids become adults, they're subject to the rules that everyone else has to follow.

Good point about guest dining being on a space-available basis. It's not a guarantee that they'll be able to accommodate guests every night.

  11. We're in the same boat in May on the Reflection...i would warn you that from what i read don't assume your daughter will be able to join you every night in Luminae as it's only on an availabilty basis...you'd think since we are both paying double for our daughters cabin that they would make a concession...or at least let her eat in Luminae no charge:)..

We are in a suite coming up in a month and we are taking our 23 year old daughter along who will be in a veranda cabin solo. We plan to have her join us as able in Luminae for dinner and we began to wonder if she would be allowed as a guest to join us in Michael's. She will have a premium drink package which I doubt will make a difference, but since there is no cost for drinks in the club I figured I'd mention it.
  12. Maybe for Costco.com but I used Costco.ca and when I got my confirmation it said underwritten by Manulife.

On another note regarding Tavelex and Canadians I mentioned that someone was able to get insurance for Canadians and she said in case of a claim you would be refunded your premiums...how mighty nice of them...you travelled under the assumption you were covered, didn't get alternative insurance and your claim gets denied but you get premiums back...another company worth trusting(sarcasm)...

Doesn't Costco use Travelex as their insurer?
  13. When you say extra option do you mean you need to pay for this insurance above the 150.00 annual fee for the card?

We have a BMO MasterCard that has a BMO MasterCard Total Travel and Medical insurance as an extra option. As long as we charge a portion of our trip we are covered for Total Travel (includes trip cancellation and interruption )and Medical. Cost is $129 a year and renews every year automatically so we are always covered. We have actually used the emergency medical a few times and have never had any issues .
  14. I tried applying for a quote online and it came up ineligible...reason stated "resident of Ontario".

I did however find cheaper insurance via Costco Canada which is underwritten by Manulife. It was between 40-60.00 cheaper than other quotes I had.

    Amit

Did you do it online or by phone..I called in and was told they no longer cover Canadians..I'd double check by making a call.

It seems other insurance companies give out different info depending on who you talk to.i called Travelgard and was told I couldn't top up my insurance that I have on my credit cards..I got cut off and called right back and the next agent said of course you can..kind of hard to trust companies to pay on claims if the info changes from agent to agent.

I just booked our cruise with cruise web and they have that travelex protection and I noticed it in the info and I asked the advisor specifically if it covers us Canadians and she told me that they do. And she gave me quote of $300 pp for our cruise. So they will cover Canadain residents at least with the company I booked it thru.
  16. In the past I've used Travelex insurance but today I just found out that their new policies are for US residents only.

I'm only looking for trip cancellation insurance as several of my Credit cards already have the full Medical coverage.

I spoke to Allianz Canada and found out how expensive it is to buy a one trip Cancellation insurance policy.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    thanks,

    Amit

  17. Hope to see you on a tour someday:)

    Amit

+1. When I organize tours, I make it clear up front what my rules are under the assumption that if it is my tour, I make the rules. Two of them are that you must be a non-smoker (even if you do not actually smoke on the tour - you stink of smoke) and you must be mobile. If you can't live w those rules, don't join my tour.

  18. Suite guests can get in Suite dining for all meals.

Does that mean that they can get items from the Luminae menu served in suite for dinners?

This could be a solution for nonsuite guests...if as one person pointed out that you are only charged for dining in Luminae and not for Luminae food...

  19. The reverse is also true..Many friends or families traveling together end up dining in the MDR and free up seats designated for those Suite guests who no longer will dine in Luminae.

I understand your point and don't disagree just wish there was a better solution...the two solutions aren't very palatable:).

It does make it difficult but the space wasn't designed to accommodate suite guests bringing others to join them. If guests could come at no charge Luminae would quickly become crowded, service would suffer, and suite guests would probably end up waiting for a table.
  20. Loved Luminae on our last cruise.

It does make it difficult for families and friends when everyone is in a different cabin category. You either forgo Luminae and eat in the MDR and lose out on a great incentive that you paid extra for or be charged a ridiculous amount for guests joining you in Luminae...no happy medium.

Yes the charge is to dine there. It's based on the location not the choice of menu items.
