  1. We just got back a few weeks ago from a cruise on the MSC Divina. They used a switch also that you placed your room key in it when you were in your cabin. When you put a card in the switch a small orange light outside your door turned on. That is how they knew if you were inside your cabin or not. If you left a card in there your cabin did not get made up.

  2. For the last 4 or 5 cruises, we have managed to almost totally avoid all elevators. We walk the stairs as a way to stave off some of the "cruise weight" I usually add. Sounds like we will continue to do this on MSC. I am not a big fan of elevators anyway and the exercise is certainly not a bad thing. I never get rude people, life is way too short to get so upset about small things. In the South, instead of talking badly about someone we just say ""bless their hearts" which is a more polite way of saying what we really think of them. Add in whichever insult (in your head!) would work for you and they won't have a clue what you mean.

Avoiding elevators is really a great thing to do. Inside a small enclosed area with people sometimes is a great way to get sick. One time on an elevator with another couple the doors stopped and a lady in a wheelchair was pushed into the elevator with us. She had a bucket on her lap that she was using to catch vomit, I saw that and said to my wife and the other couple let's get off now. No hesitation from them and the lady and the medical person with her had the elevator all to themselves.

  3. Just call the upsell number. They'll ask for your reservation number and let you know what is available and what the cost would be to upgrade. The number is 800 625 4309.

I'm on the same cruise as you. We're within 2 weeks of sailing, so if there are cabins available now's a good time to call.

  4. You paid in full before the due date, is that correct? Are you still in the window where you can cancel and rebook it for a cheaper price? You would end up with a different cabin and and maybe any perks you got originally.

I would probably just keep everything the same and enjoy your cruise.

  5. Some people are just ignorant when it comes to personal space and elevator etiquette

One other thing, whenever the doors open people get on and fill the elevator. It does not matter if is going in the correct direction for them, they just get on and hit the button for the floor they want. It is not uncommon to get on about midway up and ride a full elevator to the top floor and nobody gets off.

  6. Thanks for your review, Gard, and the videos. They really give a good idea about what to expect. I knew about the level matching for Platinum, but it's too bad there is not a real dinner included, and yes, I agree with you that the welcome aboard packs and gifts are lovely on NCL. They do make one feel special (even if less so than previously) :)

Actually, you and Debra looked great all dressed up for dinner, but as we probably discussed on the Pearl, there will not be a suit on our vacation, so even if it can distress others, it's great to know we can, at least, go to the buffet in more casual clothes on formal nights. I have read the MSC didn't allow casual anywhere on formal nights, but maybe for the U.S. port it's relaxed.

Did you do the planning for the CC meet? Or did the just schedule it? Was there a roll call?

I will be interested to know what happened during sea days and what the entertainment was like. Thanks again for sharing your videos and thoughts and our best to you both!

Hope to sail with you again sometime!

Great to hear from you! We have a cruise booked on NCL Pearl for Mar 3, 2017. That will be our 5th time on the Pearl! Maybe you can look into joining us.

As for the CC meet, MSC plans a date and time for it. They post it in the daily for the day it is scheduled. We had a CC roll call, not very active and only 6 people attended the meet.

As for the formal nights, it was not really enforced from what we saw. Many of the men in the Black Crab were wearing pull over collared shirts that night.

The only time I saw any crew member enforcing dress codes was in the buffet. Men had to have on shirts and women cover ups over bathing suits.

We were maybe the odd folks that did not enjoy the shows, just not what we liked.

The Divina is a little different to get around, not hard, just different. In about the middle of the ship are two elevators, one on each side, that let you out at the Black Crab. They are very handy. You also need to really study the deck plans to find everything, we were still finding places to see on the last night.

Don't worry about bringing a tux or suit, just nice slacks and dress shirts will work.

Another tip for you, if you want something just ask, that is what the hotel director told us.

Hope to sail with you soon!

  7. It boggles my mind that while on vacation people are in such a hurry that they have to push the close door button before everyone is on.

I agree! That I why I wanted to let everyone know why the doors close extremely fast sometimes and what to watch for. And also be careful about putting their hands in to try and stop the doors.

Of all the devices man has made, I think the elevator is one that brings out both polite behavior and rude behavior in people.

  8. In my review I forgot to mention something kind of important. It is about the speed of which the elevator doors close on the Divina. If you are waiting on an elevator you need to watch the floor indicator light and keep track of which elevator might open. It is almost impossible to go from the farthest left elevator to the farthest right, or vice-a-versa, and make it before the doors close.

The problem gets worse as the cruise continues because many of the passengers learn a terrible secret. I almost hate to tell you this secret now, but here it is.

    THE DOOR CLOSE BUTTON!!!!

If a person presses the door close button as the doors are opening it will instantly close.

And putting your hand into the door is really dangerous, at the veteran meeting a man was telling us that his wife did that and the back of her hand got cut pretty bad.

If you want to try to stick something in the door I recommend using something you don't really care about. I would stick my walking cane into the crack as it is closing, that or the toe of my shoes, use that at your own risk.

  9. That's why they make Vanilla , Chocolate and Strawberry... try them and choose the one you like..I choose to go back to my other cruise lines :) ... especially when I book an non obstructed balcony and its obstructed after your told its NOT!!

What was your cabin number, I want to make sure to not get it if I book another cruise on the Divina?

I brought a suit and a tux, and I agree, formal night had many men not dressed up.
