You are about a week late for what is traditionally thought of as peak for Boston. There are always a few that seem to be later so there should some color for you.

We bring individually wrapped granola / power bars or sandwich crackers with us when we go ashore to hold us over til we can get to the ship.

I can not speak on the Med cruise but on the Jewel Baltic DS had a blast. I would recommend going to the 1st night mixer. He met a great group of kids from all over and still speaks to a few. They had a Prom 1 night and he asked a girl from Spain... even had Prom pictures taken.. They hung out in the teen club but not that often. I would find them in a quiet corner of a lounge playing cards, hanging out in the windjammer and swimming at 10pm in the twilight...too cold for me. He didn't seem to be to impressed with the 1 teen counselor but he still had a blast!!!

Haven't been on Princess in years but I don't remember any problems. Sailed Carnival a few years ago. HATED it. Food horrendous !!!! Amongst other things. Lots of grumbling on that sailing.

We booked ships shuttle. Didn't want to take chance with private company.

What port?
-
I don't think you can see the port from the Embassy Suites.
-
Also love the Lago Mar. You can easily walk down the beach and stand on the jetty.

We went 2 years ago, late July to early August. Only time we could go because we were traveling with DS and had to go between a week at camp and soccer tryouts. We had great weather everyday in port except Gothenburg when it drizzled, but still warm.

Would port security even allow someone walking around the port? Lugging backpacks etc.

Over a mile to nice hotels... Embassy Suites, Renaissance or Hilton Marina.

I don't think you can walk to any hotels from the pier. Well, you probably could if you really wanted to.

My parents had a condo by the port. Never got tired of watching the ships going out.

Wouldn't the Marriott Harbour Beach be a lot closer than the Marriott in Hollywood?

We booked SPB with Alla tours. It was DH, DS15 and I. Had a great time, on our own schedule. In Copenhagen we did the Segway tour from the dock. DS and DH loved it....... I'm more of a chicken so although it was great fun I feel no urge to do again... I just mention it because I know it will not work for your Mom but the teens may really like it.

I believe the tip is 10% of the tour. I don't recall the exact advised split, it is something like 80/20 guide/driver.

Badbulldog, please double check the email address you are using. We are booked with them for August and I always had my emails responded to by the next day....sometimes that evening depending on how early in the morning I sent off my request, even on weekends.

I do not believe jeans are ok. Vacations are special to me so no jeans those are everyday.
