  1. Hubby and I are looking into a Dec cruise. Which ship would you choose and why. Both ships have the same itinerary, Key West and Cozumel and price is close to one another. The only Sensation cruise I had was a shortened hurricane cruise, so it was really messed up.

  2. my husband and I are settling on the Epic in December. I am now a brittle diabetic and in my bag of tricks I have a glucagon emergency kit, which has a big needle. Much bigger than the needles I give my insulin with. Does anyone have any experience with taking these on and off the ship since the needles are so much larger than diabetic needles? I'm going to email special needs on Monday.

  3. I have been dealing with invisible disabilities and a bad leg for a year or so. We have already bought me a scooter due to my leg. I recently had a stroke affecting my left side. I can stand and take a few steps. We have a NCL Epic cruise in December. Would you still go?

  4. Yes, I do use straws everyday at home for my drinks. I use reusable "Tervis" style straws and clean them daily. I use a Walmart brand Yeti style cups to drink out of. If I didn't use straws, none of my drinks would be cold, and the thought of drinking water without ice to keep it cold or fresh tea does not appeal to me, so we use reusable straws and plan to do the same for the cruise.

We plan on soaking sponges in dawn dish detergent, letting it dry again, cutting them up and then we will be able to wash our cups and straws daily.

Except at dinner, we plan on putting all of our drinks in our cups, but we will use a provided cup to fill them up at the water/juice spot.

  5. Has anyone done a ship sponsored meet and greet. Our group is doing a meet and greet. We are considering the NCL, after knowing how it is done vs. meeting somewhere like O'Sheehans where there is a bar and we can order some snacks for those who want to munch.

We are sailing on the Epic

  6. OP, we purchased my scooter for $700. If you are doing additional legs of the trip, it may be cheeper to buy one if the dr doesn't prescribe it.She could use it traveling and even take the dog to the dog park. I have a major knee issue plus invisible ones so it has been great for me. I crutch to the bed of the truck if I am alone. DH provides doorside pickup.

  7. The bathrooms in HC cabins are not set up the same as normal cabins. The bathroom is one room with a toilet and shower, with a fold down seat. I had someone on my group fb me pics of the HC cabin.

  8. One thing to ponder, if your mom is 77, does she have medicare? If your dr will write a script for her due to limited mobility, medicare will pay for 80% of a scooter. It would make her recovery much easier if she has one of her own. She would be much more mobile, and would not depend on you to get around, in or out of the house. My scooter fits through the doorways of my home and I can drive it if I am having a bad day. The heaviest piece is 30 lbs which makes it super portable. I use it at the mall, wal-mart etc.

  9. Any reviews on Cocoa Beach Suites. Rooms are scarce or sky high for our Dec Epic cruise. Can anyone give me their review of this hotel. I do know they offer transportation to the port as part of their packages, so we are also looking to leave our truck parked here for the week.

  10. We are cruising the Epic Dec 15-22 this year on an Eastern Caribbean cruise to Tortola, St. Thomas and GSC. What clothes would you pack. I am planning on packing shorts and swim suits but wondering if I also need to pack enough jeans and long sleeve t-shirts for every day too. Not sure how the weather will be.

Already planning on bringing a sweat jacket for cool nights.

  11. I need a handicapped room for several reasons, and now I have added a torn ACL, meniscus, and bone contusion to the list. Surgery most likely won't be until after the cruise due to diabetic issues.

I booked my room in November through the Special Access Desk and we discussed what I need. I was looking at shore excursions online for our cruise in Dec. and I noticed my room had changed. I called NCL and no one could tell me why I was booted. I finally got a supervisor on the phone and she actually called the person who was in the room now and asked them if they required an accessible room. They said no, they just wanted the bigger room. The supervisor swapped rooms with the person who booted us, and put us back in our original room and the other party in the balcony room we were moved to.

Why would we be moved if it was clearly marked that I needed the room. Does anyone have any clue?

  12. When we took our kids 8, 12, 15 on a cruise. We had 2 rooms. The 12 y/o was autistic. We called our cabin and put the phone on the night stand after we put the youngest in their room to go to bed. We put our phone on speaker phone so we could hear them. Their older brother would pick up the phone and say "I'm in the room. Good night." when he came in the room from the night. This was our version of the baby monitor on the cruise and it worked great.

  13. Are the smells of smoke and perfume really bad on the Epic outside of the smoking areas/Casino? We are sailing on the Epic in December. I have asthma and was only planning on bringing my inhaler, but if the smell is really bad, I am thinking I need to bring my nebulizer.

I am just reading the threads and seeing the complaints. I was hoping not to have to lug the nebulizer around.
