  1. Can anyone confirm if these are black lights they are using?

If it's a "neon" type party, you will need things like the glow sticks to actually glow right?

I'm just confused on how peoples "things" (clothing, jewelry, nail polish and so on) actually glow.

Attaching a photo from our glow party @Spice/H20 on the Breakaway. Anything in neon glows, including nail polish, and of course, anything white.

:confused:not sure why my pictures just list a link instead of appearing in the post. I've been on this site for a few years, and my pictures always opened...sorry for the inconvenience of clicking that link!

  2. WE are sailng in June- what is the most direct route from 11908 to the Haven area? thanks- we booked this suite months ago, your review and pics sold us!

Basically, we changed our route all the time, sometimes we walked as far forward on the cabin decks (that's how we noticed that some hallways are wider than others, btw) until the forward elevator bank, then rode up to 16. That seemed to be the quickest route.

Sometimes we meandered through decks 678 just to see what was going on. It was also pleasant to walk the outside on the waterfront (Deck 8) .

Our least favorite was maneuvering through the pool deck and garden café areas, as they are very congested and have many "dead ends". You will quickly find your best "commute" but it does take a bit of time, as the hallways sometime seem never-ending. There is just no way to get from forward to aft on the higher decks as they don't connect. Not to worry, You will have your bearings by day 2!

I'm so glad you found the information helpful! You will love your suite!!!!

  3. Thanks! That does look like a great spot!! Did they have anything going on in the Haven courtyard? Maybe not since you can't see out to the water, except upstairs and on sun deck?

Upstairs on the Haven Sundeck you have spectacular views in front of you. Although the "NY view" side is a tiny bit obscured by the solid white wall separating the Haven sundeck from the public sundeck. I do not know if they have a sailaway party there, as it was a 10 minute "commute" from the aft to the front of the ship, and we preferred the energy of the crowds and the dance party in H20 with our cocktails for sailaway. I think the Haven sundeck would be a bit more subdued (no loud music and dancing). Don't get me wrong, as we happily walked back and forth for the Haven facilities the rest of the week, just to escape those same crowds!!!

  4. I've been wondering If we wanted to go to the Sail away party OR hang out on our deck 12 S6 balcony. I never though of doing BOTH! DUUHHH! thanks for the idea!

Absolutely do both!!! Best part is that it only takes about a minute to get from Spice down to your aft suite! Quick ride from the aft elevator, or just a few floors down on the aft stairs! It takes a much longer time to get to Haven area since it is so far forward...that is one LOOOONG ship!

Immediately after muster we went directly to H20 Spice and grabbed a really nice comfortable seating area toward the left side, near the bar. Ordered up some sailaway drinks and enjoyed the sailaway party for almost an hour. Then as we got closer to the tip of Manhattan and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge we went down to our balcony and waved to our family and friends watching on the NYC harbor webcam until we sailed under the bridge

  5. I too have booked this suite due to your wonderful review!

How was the sailaway view? Were you able to see the Statue of Liberty from the balcony?

    Thank you!

Yes, we enjoyed some of the sailaway party in H20 Spice, then went down to our balcony and enjoyed the view of BOTH downtown Manhattan (Wall St. District) and Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty. The beauty of the aft balcony is that you can see both the port and starboard sides from your lounger!

    Super review.

    Thank you!

  6. HI,

    Great review.

I was wondering about the outlets in the cabin. Do the S6 have more than a balcony. I have booked a S6 on deck 10 and was wondering if i need to pack a power strip. thanks

We did not pack a power strip. There were several outlets in this suite. In living room & dining room area there was 1 outlet near dining room table, one outlet behind the coffee machine on the bar and 1 outlet by the sofa. In the bedroom, there was 1 outlet by the bed/closet area and 1 by the vanity table near the balcony. In each bathroom there was an outlet as well.

  7. The curtains in both the bedroom and living room (Decks 11 & 14) are the light blocking variety. If you keep them entirely closed, you will not even realize it's daytime. Fear not, your girls should sleep in! There are so many activities to keep them busy during the day, they should conk out the minute their heads hit the pillows! Enjoy your cruise!!! :D

  8. Great slide show! You will really love your Haven Suite...the hardest part will be going back to a regular cabin (as you can see from my signature) :D

We were on the Breakaway (sister ship to Getaway) and Andreas' photos were the first real look we had at her. Andreas does spectacular photos and even though the Getaway is nearly identical to the Breakaway, I was still in awe of each slide in your slide show.

BTW, the large chandelier does indeed have some movement (as per your commentary) but each light is suspended from metal bars to stabilize it. Also, the large TV screen is actually the main Atrium. It spans two stories and they use it for a myriad of activities. The first floor of the atrium has the café (Cake Boss & Coffee) as well as the internet café and customer service area. The second story houses O'Sheehans where you can order up pub food (included in fare, no extra fee) like wings and shepherds pie and sit to watch a ballgame on the big screen.

The Haven staff will spoil you so much, you will never want to go back to cruising with the masses again! We enjoyed our S6 on the Breakaway, and have many photos of the Breakaway Haven accommodations in my review in my signature if you are interested. Enjoy your cruise!!

  9. Hi , mom on the go

great info --contemplating booking an aft penthouse suite on the breakaway

Did you have access to the haven spa?

No, this suite doesn't qualify, you would have to book an S9 if you want both spa and haven access. Spa suites are much smaller, square-foot-wise, and do not have that fabulous aft balcony. We opted for the fabulous space, and then we could purchase a weekly or daily spa pass if we wished.

  10. We stayed in the aft penthouse on deck 11 (Category S6) and absolutely loved the layout. Please click on the link in my signature for a complete review of the suite along with tons of photos. There is a door between the living room and bedroom, and the sofa bed in the living room was much more comfortable when you ask your room steward or butler for a foam topper. Our teen daughter slept on the sofa and had no complaints with the foam topper. Enjoy the photos in my review, I tried to take pictures of each aspect of the suite!

  11. Cordless phones in suite:

    232323232%7Ffp54377%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C79%3A48347nu0mrj

The S6 comes with 1 cordless phone, which can be used throughout the ship. It is useful if you have family on board who will be in different locations. You carry the phone with you, and a caller can reach you anywhere on the ship, just by dialing your cabin number. Very helpful if you are traveling with children/teens, and they need to locate you quickly.

Also, the iconcierge app was a great way to stay in touch with all members of our party. Worked wonderfully with our cell phones and ipod touch.

    onTheGoMom921:

First thank you so much for your review -it was most helpful!!! I actually changed our cabin assignment to deck 11 so we will have more room to move around on the sides of the bed :) and having the door to the balcony is fantastic.

I have a question about the in suite cordless phone - I have a 12yr old and would like her to keep in touch with us if she is in the kids camp:

Does the in suite cordless phone have text messaging? Can we arrange another cordless to use?

Do you remember how much NCL charged to utilize the iconcierge app? Did it work well? We have iPhones and we could just use them if this app works well

    Thanks again!

    Leanne

The cordless phone doesn't have text messaging, it is not a cell phone. Just similar to your average cordless home phone. Not sure if you could get another, I do know larger suites like garden villas have multiple cordless phones, so I assume it would be possible. On previous cruises, we have used the cordless to keep in touch with our teen. WE carried the cordless, and she could pick up any house phone (they are all around the ship) and just dial our cabin number to reach us anywhere on the ship. We also didn't have to worry about her leaving the phone behind in the teen club, etc.

We used the iconcierge app, it was $7.95 per person and it worked great on our android phones and my daughter's ipod touch. We texted constantly with our teen. It was so convenient! Loved that app. Download it before your cruise, then activate when aboard the ship. There were times when the Wi-Fi would go down, but it usually was a minor inconvenience, and lasted only a few minutes. It was easy to use, although we needed help when we first activated it. The staff at the internet café was very helpful. .

according to the inconcierge pdf you can receive calls from home. do you know what the charges are for that? is it still the same 79 cents per min as the outgoing calls thru the app?

That, I am not so sure about. When using the iconcierge app, you would place your phone in airplane mode and turn on your Wi-Fi to connect with the ships Wi-Fi. So, there shouldn't be any other charges from your cell carrier, but you would have to double check that, or you could end up with international call charges. I can tell you that we had absolutely no outside charges from our carrier, and our phones remained in airplane mode throughout our cruise, until we returned to New York. However, we only used our iconcierge to communicate on the ship, we didn't make or receive any calls home.

  12. speaking of tips... what would be the typical tip for the butler and steward?

    thanks!!

we just booked 12304 on the getaway.. wondering if i should change to 11...

does ncl actually call you before your sail date for requests? I've sailed in penthouse suites before and never got a call.. how far in advance do they call? thanks for a great review!!

Tips are subjective, there is no right answer, everyone approaches it differently. We gave our butler around $25 per day for the 3 of us and steward an extra $100 on top of the DSC, along with a thank you card and a box of chocolates for each of them. We also tipped the concierge, Haven Restaurant maître D, a few Haven waitresses and our Haven bartender. Whether anyone considers that too much or too little, no flaming please. Each individual can make their own assessment as to their tip amount!

As a suite passenger, NCL will send you a book with your luggage tags and a letter from the concierge department (around 60 days prior to your cruise). They will give you a telephone number to call. They also contact you through email if you have given them your email address as a contact. You will be able to choose your preferences and make reservations at the 55 day mark. This gives you an extra 10 day jump ahead of the standard passenger dinner reservation options. We also stayed in an SF on the Gem, and we received the letter from the pre-concierge dept., I'm surprised this wasn't the case for your last suite cruises.

  13. OnTheGoMom921 - Would you be able to email me the dailies if you have them? I can't seem to find any other than the ones Zay posted and for some reason I can't download them to my computer. If you have them, my email address is Rosanna0702 at gmail dot com.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi Nutley chick! I didn't save my dailies, but I do have a link to someone who posted the Bermuda run dailies. I remember scouring through these before my trip. Hope they help you. They are all in PDF format, and she scanned all the pages for each day! Enjoy!!

  14. I will also add a note of thanks. Your pictures and narrative comments were quite helpful and led us to booking this suite on the Getaway. I have bookmarked this thread for future reference (and for the cold/snowy days this winter when I need to escape to images of a future vacation).

So Glad it was a help to you! When we booked our S6 the Breakaway wasn't built yet, and it was so hard to get any information. I hoped some in-depth information on the S6 would help those who cruised after us!! It is so nice to get such positive feedback from those who enjoyed my thread. Have a terrific time on your cruise!!

Thats my cabin for March 30th... Did you hear lots of noise from Spice? what about sun, was there enough sun to lay out on the deck? or was it more shade?

We heard absolutely no noise at all in our cabin. We were able to hear the music out on the balcony, but only for the special parties in Spice/H20. They end at 1 am, btw. In the cabin, there is no sound or vibrations. I know those on higher decks had complaints of these. There is both sun and shade on the balcony, but it really depends on which way the ship is facing. We found that at sunset while in Bermuda, the balcony had no shade at all. But the captain doesn't always dock the ship in the same direction, so you may have complete shade during that time. During the afternoon, you should have partial sun and partial shade.
